Crouch has averaged 1 goal every 2.6 games in his career. Carroll 1 in every 3 games. Carroll is much younger than Crouch and a better header of the ball.
I think West Ham will do well this season and Carroll will suit their style of play.
Peter Coates has indicated wages in the Premier League are over the top and of course he is correct.
If you compare Carroll and Crouch to Van Persie, then the gap in class is pretty significant.

Trousers, they weren't that far off this time around so you're hardly being Mystic Meg. Sorry that prediction wasn't outlandish enough for you. Alright then, I predict that during the first game of the season, a space donkey will climb out of Sam Allardyce's ear and shit rainbows onto the pitch. Fuck me.

Lie down and have your hand-maiden mop your fevered brow

And so the transfer/wages madhouse begins. With more money available for this ridiculous premier league you ain't seen nothing yet. If a diving cheating useless cart horse like Carroll, who has managed an eyewatering 13 goals in 67 PL appearances since leaving Barcodes, commands those kind of fees and wages I really despair about the future of our game.

Carroll 52 goals in 184 games = a goal very 3.5 games Crouch 165 goals in 545 games = a goal every 3.3 games
Looks similar until you look closer at Carrolls record of over a third of his goals are in championship and his recent record of a mere 13 goals in his last 67 PL appearances. Somebody somewhere is making a killing on this deal. And it isn't West Ham Utd who stand to fork out around £50m for his transfer, add ons and wages. F#####ing world gone mad.

Everything in the PL taken on face value is madness – the £15m I’m OK with (plenty of worse players have traded for more) and the wage seems obscene for a player of his supposed limited ability. But when you’re 24, hopefully improving and your current employer is already paying you top dollar - it’s the price you pay (rightly or wrongly) to get your man. His goals to games ratio doesn’t really explain Andy Carroll’s affect on the pitch though, where in today’s tippy tappy world he presents an almost unique threat to defences and the way oppositions have to set up to play. Add that he also works hard, plays for the team and provides plenty of assists and maybe in PL terms it’s not as mad as it seems. How much are you paying Crouch? £60k pw maybe? 60x52x3 years + the £12m you paid for a player with little re-sale value. Factor in your £8m + wages for the not even bench warming Palacios and our deal doesn’t look too bad. The irony is that it’s cost us £40m to stay the same as last season. And we finished 10th last season BTW

hope they get thier fingers burned, it wasnt that long ago that west sham were nearly going bump with the dildo bros, now thanks to the taxpayer they get a shiny new stadium and now they can suddenly start spending big. can anyone tell me who pockets the money when they sell upton park to the developers? i have my own theory and it involves karen brady being presented with a solid gold 15" dildo
