I don't think we should spend silly money if we go up. I think we should try to bring in a quality striker, a left midfielder and a commanding left footed central defender. Except from this I would stick to what we have. I would have loved to see Marlon Harewood in a Stoke shirt as I think he is one of the most underrated strikers in the league. He would also be the perfect partner for Fuller! On the left side of midfield I would like to see a player like Convey at Reading or McAnuff at Watford. I'm not sure about the central defender, maybe we should look abroad?

Despite fears of tempting fate I have been assessing our squad too ;D
Only got as far as releasing 11 players:
Broomes, Parkin, Ameobi, Pericard, Matteo, Gallagher, Buxton, Hoult, Pulis, Bothroyd and Garrett.
Nash should stay do you think? One additional class player in midfield, at the back (I'm already keeping Riggott) and up front should enable us to compete without bankrupting ourselves, but we could probably do with more cover in a few places, especially up front.

i think it could be a tough season, so we should spend wisely, maybe consolidate, try and stay up, but not be too disappointed if we go down as we will have had our moment at last. we could then use the parachute money to build for the future, maybe bounce straight back up and then be able to splash the cash a bit more.
trying to poach a few few players from whoever has gone down might be an idea, as they wouldnt cost too much.
Birmingham - Forssell, Maik Taylor, Mc Fadden, Ridgewell, Larsson, Quedrue, Parnaby, Muamba, Jerome Reading - Shorey, Harper, Convey, Doyle, Lita, Kitson Bolton - Jaaskelainen, Nolan, Cahill, Hunt, Davies, Diouf Fulham - Niemi, Bocanegra, Volz, Dempsey, Davies, Murphy, Bullard, Healy
a few out of that lsit would be ok, plus one or to stars from abroad!! ;D

Well griff is not prem class but as captain TP will play him but we need back up in the full back positions, Mears at Derby isnt too bad to be fair even tho his team are shite. Bullard and McBride would be great signings from the relegated Fulham and if Birmingham went down Mcfadden or Kapo would be excellent signings. Also Scott Sinclair could do a job in the Prem i think

I would imagine we'd make two big signings, and two loans for the season from top 6 clubs. Whether we do more in January might depend on the likelihood of staying up.

We will need all that money for going up and need to spend it wisely. This is why we could do with topping the table as the better we do the more cash we get and if we win the league we can take that feeling of euphoria through to next season. 2 or 3 huge signings at a good price would do it and then have a dabble in the loan market and see where we are come the new transfer window after Chrustmas. I think we can turn a few teams over but we will struggle. Possibly not to the likes of Derby though. I can't beleive we are talking about this after the doom and gloom of ther seasons. I for one am rubbing my hands and looking forward to the next fortnight

We'd need a keeper, a centre back, a right back, a left winger, a central midfielder and 2 strikers to stand any chance.
Keepers-Fulop/Basso Centre back-Riggot Right back-? Left winger-Halmosi, Sinclair Central midfielder-? Strikers?
I can't really think of anyone but the names I've suggested would all be ones I'd happily see in our team if we made the Preamiership.

If we are going to play a similar type of game.
Then we would need a Heskey type player who would rough up a defence to allow Fuller or someone similar to score the goals we would need. It would not be pretty but we would get some goals and upset a few pundits ;D
The rest of the team would need major rebuilding.

i reckon 9 would do it
maik taylor/hahnemann/al habsi, martin taylor/johan djourou, nicky shorey, andre bikey, bullard/muamba, dempsey/malbranque, victor moses, cameron jerome, healy/danny murphy
similar sort of players to what we have - just a few steps up. and a couple of super subs to get us those important goals(healy, murphy, malbranque)
i reckon about 25-30 mill for that lot, so i hope this warchest is forthcoming!

Definitely good enough to be pushing for first XI: Riggott; Shawcross; Lawrence; Pearson; Fuller; Ameobi
Probably / just about good enough: Nash; Simo; Cort; Delap; Whelan; Diao
Squad players: Wilko; Dicko; Griff; Pugh; Cresswell; Mama
Get rid: Buxton; Broomes; Parkin; Pericard; Rooney; TP Jr
When you look at that, we require some cover in EVERY position, although I suspect we might be ok for central midfielders. The bare minimum to survive will be:
A keeper (Fulop?) Centre-half At least two full-backs Two wide midfielders Striker
Even then, that would only give us a total of 25 players, and bearing in mind we can't play the transfer / loan market like we have this season, that's probably four or five short of a squad.

Realistic transfer targets who in my opinion would strengthen the squad:
Steve Sidwell (Chelsea) Jimmy Bullard (Fulham) Matt Derbyshire (Blackburn) Brian Macbride (Fulham) Andy Hunt (Reading)

Dont be suprised if TP goes after viktor moses if palace dont go up.
Also Nash and Ameobi are pretty much done deals and one can pressume that Riggot will follow suit once promoted.

really hope we dont sign nash or ameobi. nothing against nash but he doesnt seem to be a significant step up on simmo, and when you consider there'll be at least a couple of quality prem keepers relegated, surely a couple of mill to get maik taylor/hahnemann/al habsi would be a wise investment.
as for shola, im well dissappointed so far and would rather see jerome (if brum go down) as he seems to have more to his game than shola and would make up a scary partnership for fuller.
i do hope we secure the riggott deal tho - still think we'd need another cb (like taylor) but he's shown himself to be a step above of cort at least......aaaahhhhhh im too excited!!!!

really hope we dont sign nash or ameobi. I don't think we've seen the best of Shola yet. I think he'd be a useful addition to the team, but I hope we've not agreed silly money for him (ie. The £5 million being talked about a few weeks ago).

One of the finest players ever to grace the Victoria Ground was bought from Manchester City in 1963, the year they were relegated from the old First Division and Stoke were promoted.
I am, of course, referring to Peter Dobing. And his performances over the years for Stoke City were, indeed, priceless!!!!
Of the present team, I would say, from what I hear and read, only Nash, Wilkinson, Riggott, Shawcross, Dickinson, Whelan, Fuller and Lawrence are capable of hacking it in the top flight week in, week out.

I reckon we need 9 players in minimum.

Of course that counts buddy, our national team has used the grandparent rule to sign up plenty of players born born in england so why shouldn't you use your grandparent to gain honorary Irishman status!!!
Kinnell/HG: Just let me clear this up now for myself and anyone else who read your idiotic statement about recruiting from relegated clubs. Are you honestly trying to tell me that relegated clubs have not got one good player in their team??? So by your logic players such as McFadden, Kapo and Bullard, all of whom are very capable Premiership players, should just be disregarded as possible transfer targets because their respective teams have been relegated??? I have witnessed some debatable statements on this MB but that has to be up their with the very worst!
