Back to the top! Was the phrase Zigger Zagger a Stoke thing or a football thing? I ask because someone said to me it was also chanted/known at Chelsea?

Remember seeing him at Newcastle a few years ago, he looked knackered after making it up the stairs but we all did.
Never forget over a decade ago the old man explaining who he was when we're going on a coach to an away game that he me happened to be on. Club legends like that make football what it is

Club legends like that make football what it is I think I'd struggle too .....was this before his hip replacement or after? He used to be my mums neighbour for years before she moved 8 yr ago. See him quite regular at the game too but, I don't think he recognises me now I have no hair....he was looking well last season

I was in a production of Zigger Zagger at the Theatre Royal up Hanley. It wasn't great.

Back to the top! Was the phrase Zigger Zagger a Stoke thing or a football thing? I ask because someone said to me it was also chanted/known at Chelsea? Written when Peter Terson was playwright in residence at The Victoria Theatre, the Millwall/Chelsea connection, I believe, came about when the play transferred to London's National (Youth?) Theatre. Unable to find young actors able to do a convincing Potteries accent, the setting was changed to a generic 'notorious' London club. But if more proof were needed that Zigger Zagger is our own, the play does actually mention The Boothen End!!!

I've got a copy of the script (see above) but I was confused by the YouTube/online references to Chelsea and Millwall. I always presumed it was a Stoke thing. It was written for the National Youth Theatre.

Back to the top! Was the phrase Zigger Zagger a Stoke thing or a football thing? I ask because someone said to me it was also chanted/known at Chelsea? Yes there was. Nothing clever or exciting, just a repeat of 'Zigger Zagger, Zigger Zagger, STOKE CITY!' every home game, and most away games, no matter what the gate was. We chanted it until we were hoarse at the Boothen End. Something missing from the games when we didn't have a Zigger Zagger session.

Some current Boothen enders surely remember it and could get it going again Over to you boys (and girls)

Some current Boothen enders surely remember it and could get it going again Over to you boys (and girls) Anything would be welcome over that dreadful dirge 'Oh when the reds'. Since when have we been 'the reds' anyway? This exactly. I try "Harry Burrows on the wing"; "John Farmer is better than Yashin" most matches and get looked at like I'm mad. Well I maybe feckin' mad but we aren't the feckin' reds and we certainly aren't anyone's feckin' "barmy" army. "Red and white army" if you really must. Bury me under the Boothen. You feckin' cnuts.

He did indeed work on the railways, which operate a 24 hour shift pattern, but John never let shift patterns interfere with Stoke fixtures .How did that happen?

in the 70s and I guess before , if you went more than the obvious local aways, you quickly got to know and became known by a very broad spectrum of our support... not just from your own age group ...or from your own social circle ...a much tighter away following in those days.....not sure that happens so much these days?
Plenty of characters in their late 40-60s by which I mean people who'd go the extra mile to see Stoke not the hooligan definition of character & who still make up a high percentage of our ever presents at the less popular games.. Are there their equivalents coming through in their late teens / early twenties who go the extra mile to see us play and will become the ever present faces of tomorrow?

Sorry for the delay in answering, I'm on nights, been sleeping all day. Lyrics - As a Stokie lay dying on the terraces With the blood pouring out of his head As a Stokie lay dying on the terraces These are the words that he said He said bury me under the Boothen He said bury me under there son* He said bury me under the Boothen Cos my duty to football is done *I've never been sure whether this is 'under there son' or 'under the sun' think it's the former, makes fuck all difference when being sung anyway :D I'll root the tune out later when it's quieter here :)

Zigget is alive & well and rarely misses a match. Last mention on here was when he swore at those doing the film about Nello. Lol And the words to bury me under the Boothen are
As I walked down the road to the Boothen a Stoke fan got hit on the head, There was blood gushing out of his forehead and these were the last words he said Will you bury me undef the Boothen will you bury me under the sun, will you bury me under the Boothen till my duty to football is done. We hate Vale We hate Vale lol

What happened to the original TJ who used to start Delilah from the seats at the corner of the Boothen - first remember this after being kept in at Bolton and he half climbed a pylon to lead the singing - God knows what year but guessing 89-90??

What happened when you got to the middle/single ziggers and zaggers? Or was it just one relentless barrage of Zigger Zagger, Zigger Zagger, STOKE CITY ?
