I love that interview. He's said some daft things at times (don't we all) but he speaks from the heart and he's brave enough to say what he feels. Good man.

Needs to concentrate on his team. He actually sounds like a pissed up bloke in the corner of the pub putting the world to rights and declaring his undying love for everyone (except Serbia). I think that's what tends to endear him to the likes of me. He just says what he thinks and I think there are too few real characters in football today. He talks utter shit at times mind you but that makes him just like the rest of us.

Yes I would rather have Hodgson. He is doing as well as anyone can with players as limited as English ones. The issue isn't the manager it's the whole nogger culture as discussed on the other thread. Nobody can change the mindset of a nation in five months.
I like what Holloway says in that clip. Sounds a bit like David Brent! ;D

As I said, the issues are culture not personnel. ppft that's like blaming the sun and moon for personal problems' problem is it's who the "culture" ie tabloids choose not whose best for the job' talbloid culture' not actual british culture' most english fans are fans because of the national team not it's pre choosen players' its a managerial problem the likes of a sven goren eriksen / italian job' England need's a gut check and roy hodgson is a true english manager as man city's owners are'

Best for the job is all opinion. IMHO no English manager is right for it.
When I said culture I meant football culture. The nature of English football doesn't breed players with the right attributes for international success.

Best for the job is all opinion. IMHO no English manager is right for it. When I said culture I meant football culture. The nature of English football doesn't breed players with the right attributes for international success. So Northen Ireland does? Spain does? No, sorry. Spanish German and Italian managers do something so simple it's mindboggling for English managers... they Choose players who are the best for the position no matter how many caps' or games they've played for the team' no matter the opponent. They choose by form. Hodgson must of had a bit of a renaissance when he chose Shawcross because FFS it was a long time coming with rio and Terry having as much pace as a bag of wet potatoes. Look at the Germans, they start Marco reus over gomez now why? huh? He's in form has skill and pace. Spain, they start arbeloa and put torres on the bench. why? Form. England, well you had to of watched the Poland game... my 10 year old could of chosen a better starting 11 Rooney got a lucky ball in but see his 2 meter miss? ffs... England's problem is a mental one' like the country itself. Not a breeding one' It's amazing how in the Prem players thrive of English decent but when they put on the three lions it's as if they feel the weight from the tabloids and with bad lineups finish the premonition.

Post by dozintheseventees on Oct 20, 2012 5:15:47 GMT
Cleverley is frustrating. He's like most English players...........yawningly average. English football breeds, encourages and champions mediocre football and mediocre footballers. Managers can only pick what is available and, in England, that's depressingly limited.

Limited is the word yes. That is why I wouln't blame Roy that much when things aren't great.

The truth is that we should have done much better under Sven. He had a very talented group of players to work with and we didn't get beyond a QF.

How on earth has a thread about Ian Holloway's views on racism in Serbia ended up on the subject of Sven Goran Eriksson?

Sven was a good England manager. When his time was up it really was well and truly up but overall he was a good one.
