The left back mystery does deepen. We have not had a proper left back for so long that both Crouch and Owen were actually playing for England around the time we last did! We take two on trial this summer and we all get excited - then Tone lets one go after declaring, amid much fanfare, that we are signing him (only for the Baggies to snap him up). What is Tone's problem with full backs - are we destined forever to play wide centre halves under his management? He was a lot less averse to it in the Championship but seems to think it's a luxury he can't afford at this level.

Listen, any manager that can play Asaba, Noel-Williams and Akinbyi in a front three away at Coventry obviously knows what he's doing so who are we to question his decision-making?

I think we're all big enough to take whatever the reason was for us going cold on Popov but for the club to intimate that it was work permit and then halfheartedly point to a possible appeal when this was clearly bullshit is just sleazy.
Still when you have a hard hitting journalist Spinks on the beat I'm sure we'll get our answers soon.

Why is this a surprise? We all know TP doesn't do fullbacks.. If we had any intent in signing any I'd bet TP had a look on the training field and said he's not a Left full back, he's a left sided attacking midfielder, FOOOOK that!!

I think TP's idea of a Full back is that they should be FULLY at the back

it was made quite clear in the Sentinel that TP didn't rate Boenisch's defensive capabilities
however maybe they got it wrong?

. . thought Boenisch played well @ the Yeovil game. Was probably our best player to be fair, but then that wasn't hard!

Didn't the Rogers and Hart musical "Pal Joey" in the 1940s include a song called "Bewitched Boenisch and Bewildered"? Who'd have thunk that would almost be a headline on the Oatie over 60 years later? ;D en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bewitched,_Bothered_and_Bewildered
