Kenwyne Jones has to be interested to score goals for Stoke, anyone who says he is is lying. Walters has to be good enough to score goals for Stoke, anyone who says he is is lying. Cameron Jerome has to be picked to score goals for Stoke, anyone who says Pulis 'fancies' him is lying. Sidibe shouldn't be in the squad, anyone who says he should be is lying. Fuller is better than the above 3, anybody who says he isn't is lying. wank, wank uttter utter wank. Only Stoke would finish lowest football league goalscorers last year and fail to buy at least one striker. Optimistic then? FS we've been crying out for a midfield that can create and we've got one Adam might spray a lot of passes astray but trust me he'll create more goals than Whelan or Whitehead ever will and hes not shy of hard work. Oh and theres a reason why Fuller went to a lower league team, its because he isnt good enough now accept it times move on ffs

Of course we will.
Last season Whelan, Whitehead & Pennant managed 1 goal between them.
It would be impossible for the new midfield to score less (especially as Kightly already has 1 goal).
For a team built around set pieces, our delivery (especially when Pennant doesn't play) isn't very good.
Other than that little spell when Higgy was blasting them in, our direct freekicks have been woeful for years. Adam should improve that.
As well as scoring more goals than Whelan or Whitehead, an improved quality of delivery from corners and freekicks played into the area will improve our scoring rate.

We could have put Rooney & Van Persie up front, but without good service they won't score many. The midfield and widemen are the key, we now have strength in depth and creativety in the middle, as well as having cover out wide (Kightley looks the pick of the three so far) So from a chance point of view, we should make lots more opportunities, and now the onus is on the strikers to take them. Our four strikers are all good in different ways, so there should be no excuse why we can't score more goals, from what will hopefully be more opportunities. Would have liked a proper fullback or two, but come on, does our defence look weak? Good post

Charlie Adam's set piece delivery is perfect for the best team in the country at set pieces.
Goals will go up from set pieces if nothing else.
And don't forget we have just added N'Zonzi, another giant, to our team.

We'll see.
Chuck Adam only scored 2 last season, and N'Zonzi has scored 5 in English football in 3 seasons.
The next few weeks will be weirdly fascinating, though.
Some fresh faces at least.

Does that matter if Ryan and Huth get into double figures? Also Adam will have no competition for free kicks outside the box.

Also our goal stats would indicate that recently we've not been the best team in the country at set pieces but there you go.

Haha.
I'd love to dig up some old Charlie Adam threads. They'd be a riot to read now.
I know I have really stuck the boot in on our new 'wee Hudson' in the past ;D

March I think you're massively over egging Adam's set piece prowess, I think all of the below is pretty much spot on. Interesting times for you guys eh! Hope no-one minds me coming to post re our Charlie.
Some good posts in here capturing the ups and downs of Adam and how his presence affects the team and it's style of play. Here's my thoughts:
The bad first from what I've seen watching him play quite a few times now at Anfield: His set pieces are worth jack
Never mind Slur Alex and his "Adam's set peices are worth £10m" nonsense. Rarely if ever beats the first man on corners, or they float out harmlessly having got no-where near a man. And very poor on free kicks. Infact Adam has been so poor on set pieces that about 6 other LFC players are now preferred over him
Tackling and defensive stuff. He's diabolical, truly terrible. Doesn't track runners, incredibly poor positional sense, liability in his tackling, generally a 3/10 performance when he doesn't have the ball. Kenny played Adam in a 4 - 4 - 2 alongside Lucas. Now Lucas might not get huge amounts of credit outside of LFC, but mark my words, he is the single most important player in our team, he's the glue, the one metronome of the team and quality too. And even Lucas, as good as he is couldn't cover all of Adam's defensive weaknesses.
Once Lucas ruptured his anterior cruciate last November Adam was truly exposed as we had no-one of Lucas's calibre to cover. Eventually he was dropped by Kenny until his season ended early when he injured himself and a QPR player doing one of his infamous 'tackles'.
It's not all bad though With the ball, and in a team set up to cover his weaknesses, Adam is a 7/10, obviouosly dependant on the system. He's not going to press, harry, track and defend, but play Adam alongside 2 defensive midfielders, and give Adam time on the ball and he can certainly hit a pass. Often to a man who is marked by 3 defenders and hugley isolated, but Charlie loves the long ball! Obviously many of thee long balls go straight in to touch, but the odd one will be true Hollywood and of course "..he can open up a tin of beans with that left foot..." whatever that means.
Overall Charlie hasn't been able to make the step up in class from Blackpool to Liverpool, he hasn't been able to cope with going from being the best midfielder (Blackpool) where the team is built around him to being 4th or 5th choice, even lower this season under Rodgers where the system just doesn't suit his strengths. Having said all of that, he could well offer some guile and creativity to your midfield if you can use other players to cover for him. He may well regain his confidence and return to the form he showed at Blackpool when he did indded have some very good games. Worth £4/5m, I'd say that's a good deal.
Finally although Adam hasn't been a hit at LFC, he's always been a consumate professional both on and off the pitch, and does seem like a decent guy. He always gave 100% for the red shirt.

If Pulis can do one thing good, that will be it Beardy, to stay up scoring less goals than last year.

Without wanting to add any more doom and gloom to the messageboard, it does appear the same old problems remain despite the signing of better ball playing central midfielders doesn't it?
