Apparently he is 1/3 on to be at West Ham by the end of the transfer window. Any truth in this?

He just needs to keep fit and injury free. When he's firing, Pennant's arsed and TP plays both of them, we can be quite useful.

I'd replace him with Kightly right now if I could.
Matty out for 2m, Kightly in for 3m.

Wouldn't miss him aslong as we get a suitable replacement and hopefully the Carlton Cole rumour is false prefer keep KJ be honest

kenwyne and matty could be going there and c cole coming here What a horrible thought. If Matty goes, we need to sign two wingers. If Matty stays, we need one. I don't want him to leave, he still has a lot to offer.

After last season I wouldn't mind if he went tbh, as long as we get a good replacement in, along with a back up to cover both sides, I'm not convinced it was fitness/injuries that held him back last season, he seemed very reluctant to run at his full back, always stopping and passing it back.

Wouldn't mind Etherington being sold.

Matty looked very short on confidence last season and his form was yo-yoing along the way. I like the lad, he's been great for us but a move may be the best solution for everyone. Freshen things up.

I seriously can't believe what I'm reading that fans actually want to get rid of ethers?! When only at the end of the season before last everyone was saying he should be in the England squad?! 1 bad season doesn't make him poor no matter how old,
he still has 2 maybe 3 good seasons left in him he and beattie were the main reasons we stayed up in the 1st season.. Still a class act!! He is twice the player kightly will ever be... On his day he is one of the best wingers in the league!! If stoke sold him It would be a massive backward step.. Would he go back there after all the gambling problems?! I hope not!!

I wouldn't want us to actively sell him but if a good offer came in I wouldn't complain.

The following season he was a walking disaster and barely championship standard. When a player is past it....then he is past it. We need to move Etherington on. Hes not recovered since his injury v Wolves in April 2011.

Why does it have to be another donkey in Cole though? Cant we have someone half decent like Noble ;D

He has proved that he isn't out of his depth in enough seasons in this league. Writing Ethers is very premature too, he had a pretty poor season but still got a lot of assists and looks better in pre-season. We need him.

A perfect thread to illustrate the lack of loyalty that cuts both ways in football these days
Etherington was being tipped roundly for an England spot not 12 months ago then, lost form therefore lots of fans say he can go as far as they're concerned
Meanwhile, players look to 'bite the hand that feeds them' by being happy to move from clubs that have not only rescued their careers but, their self respect too.
what a piss poor lot - one and all !

what amazes me is people shouting for Micheal Kightly (injury prone and recently relegated mind !) - over Matty
sorta poor mans Liam Lawrence (2nd class) versus an England class winger ??????
sorry - this is not even up for debate in my book
and - a piss poor state of affairs Id repeat

Etherington had one poor season we cant judge him on that to sell him, even if we did sell him that would leave us back in square one with no competiton for wingers places.

Looked very average last season, not the same player, lacked confidence. I'd like to give him another year, battling for his position with a new singing.
