Love the fact that we beat off competition, makes a refreshing change.
Fuckin West Ham, I'd imagine they will put a bid in for Pottermus next.

Interesting to see one of the dynamo fans mention that he's played Centre Forward for them before. Walters role? ;D Like i said earlier though, i like the thought of him playing at at full back. It's a damn site more appealing than Phil Bardsley or Alan Hutton.

My main concern withe Cameron is that he sounds like a good and accomplished centre back but he's not going to shift Huth or Shawcross any time soon. Therefore, I can see him coming into the midfield but unless we go to 4-3-3, I fail to see how this will help anything. So, back up for me at centre back but how will this affect Upson?

Dunno about that, Jim. The Houston fans seem to describe him as s bit of a gambler at centre-half, doing all manner of fancy shit like bringing the ball out from the back! I think it all points to his skills being accommodated a bit out of the firing line at full-back. I think Pulis sees him as his new starting right-back, and I'm expecting him to start the season there.

Grapey, the other week I posted something taken from a Houston website, the results of a poll of their fans asking them where his best position was. Not one said right back and he'd also hardly featured there. Whilst I fully appreciate TP's perverted selection process, it makes no sense to sign a player from the MSL who is a centre back for his country and club, who has very occassionally featured in midfield and then play him at bloody full back. The very thought pisses me right off......

Good to see Pulis clearly intent on evolving our football club and really pushing onto the next level.
Signing a guy who is predominantely a centre back who is very capable of playing in the centre of the park (a position we are desperate for), and then playing him at right back is quite frankly ridiculous...its almost as though we are going round in circles every season now. He brings in some alright players, then just plays them totally out of position or not at all (ie Jerome).
He just isnt learning. Hes brought in quite a good centre mid prospect (Ness) who would offer something in the centre that we dont have and is planning on shifting him out on the left wing (probably as reserve for Etherington), or worse still he'll stick him at left back.
Why cant Pulis just sign a player...start him from the off...and start him in his correct position? Is that really too much to ask?
Cameron clearly isnt a full back. Pulis is just trying to set the fans expectations. Very fucking frustrating.

The very thought pisses me right off...... The rest of the post is irrelevant, Jim ;D Remember, he seems to be moulding Ness for the LM based on 2-3 appearances there for Rangers from a 15-16 game apprenticeship, despite him possessing no wide midfield attributes and the Rangers fans viewing him exclusively as a central midfielder! Reading these Houston fan opinions from last month, you can definitely imagine Pulis having him down as a full-back, especially with his winger background. The fact he's never played full-back in his life is neither here nor there! Midfield - He spent most of his youth and half his professional time as a winger. He had to do fill in work for most of a season as a central middie for us - that is not his primary position. He may be better suited as a defensive midfielder if he were to stay in the middle, but we don't know. As a winger he was good. As a defender his athleticism and ability to push the attack and quickly switch fields makes him very good. But he is still learning the defensive position. As for the National team, he is not being kept out - he is just now working his way into the scene. Remember, he only started playing central defender a little over a year and a half ago - and is already getting called up.
He had to play defense out of necessity for us. We were weak at the back at the time and Cameron was the best option. He actually began to shine in defense. His best position is probably defensive mid. He is too tall to be a winger.
He's already 27 though. Not good for him.
He is just now breaking his way into the first team of the USMNT. He needs this Euro transfer at a big club in order to solidify a postion as starting CB. My prediction: if he does well at Stoke he will replace Onyewu in defense. We can only hope.
He has the ability to play in central midfield (not just defensively). He is way too creative and his creativity is wasted at the back in my opinion. The USMNT does have major depth in midfield so maybe you're right.
I would just hate to see him play defense when he can also be useful in attack and create goal-scoring chances. He has had to carry the weight of the team where him and Brad have been the best players. At Stoke he will be surrounded by better players and ultimately that will make him better.

Having said that Cameron does seem to have the attributes to do well in the position, quick, good in 1 on 1 situations, he can pass and he gets forward. Let's not write him off before he's played he might perform well in the position. We'll just have to wait and see. I think he's a good signing.

Our midfield right now is nothing short of atrocious..crying out for someone who can pass, put their foot on the ball and offer some mobility going forward. Or will we stick with Whelan and Whitehead which is enough to send any good man over the edge. Whelan in particular in my opinion is absolutely shocking most of the time.

Great distribution and creativity from the back but leaves gaps as CB, RB sounds about right to me.

Yeh he'd be a good shout for midfield. I want to see Palacios hopefully phased in first though before we put Cameron in there too. We have very poor distribution from the RB pos at the moment, neither Wilko or Shotton can pass wind.

At the end of the day nobody has got a clue or can really offer an opinion on whether he's going to be any good at full back.
You could quite easily say that based on the recviews of them, half the central midfielders in the world could be perfect as full backs - the reality (and that's the important bit) would be somewhat different of course.
At the end of the day, I'm not really that bothered one way or another.
I can't see him being any worse than Huth or Woodgate, will he be any better than Wilson or Wilko - well it won't take long to find out, will it?
If he's a success there TP can take the plaudits and if he isn't a success there then we're not going to be any worse off than we were at full back and we will probably have a decent player (for not a lot of dosh) who can play in midfield.

Full Back, just like any position is a specialist role. Yes, you do get players who can be versatile and play multiple roles, but these are few and far between. Years ago I had a conversation with the capped one where he told me that the ONLY reason he was playing Wayne Thomas at right back was because he didn't have the recourses to buy in the specialist right back that he wanted. He said it was a "mend and make do" situation. Well 5 seasons into the top flight and £90m plus spent and we are no closer to seeing a proper right back in that position. If he is now going to shoe-horn Cameron in there it really does raise a lot of questions.
Pulis seems utterly incapable of fielding a consistent balanced 11. Preferring to view players based on their individual attributes and them shove them into the formation after. What happens with both Ness and Cameron will, in my opinion, speak volumes about our ambitions going forward.

Cameron has played on the wing and was said to be very good there but was deemed too tall(according to the guy on the Everton board about this) and sometimes wingers can adapt and make great fullback.
Hand on heart though i reckon he'll play a dozen games in about 3-4 make shift positions.

Why anyone is surprised that Cameron is earmarked for a fullback slot is amazing. We all know Tone likes central defenders who can play fullback the squad is littered with them.He also likes fullbacks who can hit long diagonal passes and its said that Cameron can do this. Is he really going to sign a 'wing back' type of fullback who bombs forward? No for TP that would be a nightmare for his rigid system. As for Midfield, the manager sees CM function to harry scrap tackle , detonate the play then play simple passes to the wide players. As far as I can see from descriptions of Cameron he isn't that sort of player. Lets just hope he is better at fullback than what we have, otherwise he is just going to improve the squad marginally and make no difference to the quality of the first xi which is what we desperately need.

Funny how some posters think a guy who has never played a game in the Prem or ever played football at a high level is going to displace established Prem players who have been established for years.
A few cup games next season and the odd substitute appearance and then we will see if he is ready for the real thing.
He is a very promising signing, but his time is not next season.
