Might be an idea to get Shotton out on loan for the season. I can't see anyone agreeing to the 'must play right wing' clause in the loan agreement mate ;D Well, there is that! ;D I know he's Coatesy's touchstone for the Academy, but when it comes down to it, he's probably going to be third, behind Wiko and Cameron, in the RB pecking order, nowhere at CB and hopefully never really considered for RW when we bring in another winger (especially with Walters possibly having to be accommodated there at times if we buy another striker) If we could get Shotton tied up, playing every week in the Championship again, it'd probably be of more use to his development. Mind you, I'm not sure he'll ever be good enough for the top level. Tone's just got to sell a sale to Coatesy now.

It all depends if Pulis is going to drop this silly notion that he's a winger though FM. If he doesn't, then i think we all know the answer to whether he's going to be good enough for the top flight.
If he does see some sort of future at fullback though, then i'd be tempted to loan him out for the season like you say. He's got the physical attributes to suceed there, but at times his positional play is abysmal. I don't know if Sheffield Wednesday are in need of a right back for the coming season but, a year with Megson could be beneficial.
Saying that, My gut feeling is, that he is, and will only ever be, a decent championship player at best.

Apart from being played in central defence I really can't see Shotton being good enough in any position. Problem is that this is where we have our best players already so maybe a loan or even a sale of Shotton will be the right thing!

blog.chron.com/soccer/2012/07/despite-late-everton-interest-geoff-cameron-signs-with-stoke/“I’m officially a Potter,” Cameron said. “I’m ready and excited to join Stoke. It’s been a long process. I’m anxious to meet with the guys and I’m anxious to start a new part of my career.”
Everton’s interest was way too late, because Stoke City and MLS had already agreed to terms on his transfer a week earlier.
“I’m anxious to get this thing going,” he said. “I want to focus on soccer now. I’m glad it ended well with the Dynamo against D.C. United.”
The Potters are having preseason in Orlando, but Cameron is unsure if he’ll be able to play in any of the club’s U.S. exhibitions. Moreover, he’s unclear if he’ll be able to travel with the team back to England. Unsure when he’ll return to Houston, however, the 27-year-old star packed for a long trip.
“I packed three big bags,” he said with a chuckle.

www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2012/07/25/canetti-cameron-has-agreed-terms-stoke-cityCameron’s work permit appeal hearing is set for Aug. 3, according to his agent John Davies. The US national teamer’s initial application was denied, as expected, considering he does not meet the main criteria of having featured in 75 percent of official FIFA matches in the past two years.
Davies, however, said he is confident that Cameron will be able to make a good case for winning his appeal.
“We are very confident and have a package put together and thing this will be done pretty good,” Davies told MLSsoccer.com Wednesday morning. “It’s not really my side to talk about but we are very, very confident.”

Well it does sound promising indeed, and the boy seems a good player. That's two signings before August! Whose next......oh thats another thread! ;D That could also be construed as positive thoughts - that's a whole other board! Looks a good signing from what I've seen.

I don't mean to be negative, but should we be worried if our front line full-backs next year are going to be a reserve central midfielder from the Glasgow and District Toilet League and a midfielder from the Micky Mouse League Soccer?
Or perhaps we've just scouted them both thoroughly and are confident that they'll make the transition. Goodness only knows.

Would it really kill us to sign even one actual, genuine full back?
