"Glasgow, 18, missed much of his first season as a scholar due to injury" He sounds just perfect for our bench

Well done stoke but also, as the poster above hints
another one from the 'slightly dented tins' aisle
albeit at the acadamy shop
GOOD LUCK young Ben !!! AND WELCOME TO THE FUTURE HOME OF WORLD FOOTBALL !
Ps
I wonder if Tony Pulis knows about this ?
I can imagine the response (something like)
Fullback ? Full back ? BLOODY FULLBACK ??
are you F***** mad !!!!!!!

Good spot kev, but I doubt whether he'll be considered 'front of house' anytime soon having not made either the reserves or the youth cup teams at the Arse last season.

He's only here to make up the numbers in that U-21 squad... www.stokecityfc.com/page/NewsDetail/0,,10310~2775640,00.html Jordan Richardson, Lucas Dawson, Michael Clarkson, Andy Musungu and Andy Hall.
Those from other clubs are: Adam Thomas and Ben Heneghan (both Everton), Jordan Keane (Wolves), Jaden Hall (Blackburn) and George Rigg (Bristol City).

Before the usual lot come in and say "another one we can sell on"
Good luck to him, we're getting younger players in for the academy/youth teams..can only be a good thing.

Another player who wont be looked at and will be subsequently released probably.
Pulis will be fuming about this as he continues his European road trip in the hunt for Salif Diao.

He's a specialist right back though - so, even if he was only 8 instead of 18, he represents a bright new dawn for the club! ;D

Kim Jong Pulis will soon batter the Arsenal pass and move training out of him... ;D
The poor bugger - a few months and he'll be thinking "what the fuck am I doing here"

So, we moan when we sign old players? We say we should be looking for young players to bring through the ranks... We want to be able to produce youngsters like Crewe...we need to sign some younger players....so we do, and its met with a negative responce?!

We want to be able to produce youngsters like Crewe...we need to sign some younger players....so we do, and its met with a negative responce?! True - but we do need to sign U-21 players just to be able to field a team in this U-21 league which is a compulsory part of being this Grade 1 Academy we're going for. We may find a few gems - but primarily we need U-21 bodies to fulfil the criteria and create a workable squad for this development competition which is why we're signing handfuls of released Academy players from elsewhere.

Fuck me. Moaning when we sign old players, moaning when we sign young players. Moaning when we sign no one, moaning when we do.
Can you imagine the Mary Anne wankstain reaction if say West Brom had signed the lad.
Utterly pathetic.

People say what they want because they have a gut feeling that despite how good this kid might be, he will never get near the first team as Pulis has made his views on developing the youth side pretty much known. Whereas Crewe unearth gems and play them, I cant see Pulis ever utilizing our youth academy whilst there are former England Internationals out there looking for somewhere to play. Its not moaning, its stating the obvious in my opinion.

Cynicism is inevitable given we've seen a number of young players signed and then never even get close to playing for one reason and another. When we see young players used in their strongest positions regularly (provided they're good enough, obv), then maybe the comments won't be as easily applicable?

I for one have not moaned about any of the above and i arn't moaning about this signing, i beleive that this guy will never play a first team game for us. He'll be in the youth team as long as he can, go to a few clubs on load and then who knows really.

Which young players have we seen come in and then not a get a chance before going on to great things elsewhere? Please don't say Marshall as he's yet to prove anything at our level. I could understand cynicism if we released real quality and they ended up proving us wrong (Marshall may do that or may not) but perhaps our youngsters simply to date weren't good enough. All the fuss when say Adam Vass left was a prime example as he didn't cut it at a high level and now playing in Serie B. This lad may or may not be good enough but if he is I'm sure he'll get his chance. Not like we're blessed with good full-backs.

This bloke is the 6th 18-year-old , who's been released by another club, we've signed this summer on a pro deal. And the needs of this U-21 squad has meant that we've given an unprecedented amount of pro deals to our 2nd year Academy players.
He may be great - but we primarily just need footballers with a pulse who are under 21 to figure in this development squad, which is compulsory for Grade 1 Academies.
Whatever the whys and wherefores, though, it's nice to see a group of young professionals at the club. Hopefully there might be a couple of late developers amongst them who blossom in this U-21 league. Probably a bit of a long shot as anyone with a real chance would've been kept on elsewhere, but you never know - there may be a real late bloomer there.

he's an 18 year old english right back, a step in the right direction and lets hope he can go on and develop with us.
he probably wont be near our squad next season, unless he is a very good prospect, reading the story it was only his injury in 2010/11 that prevented him going professional with Arsenal this time, so he left.

Marshall might well not be ready, but do you really think he's a worse option out wide than Ryan Shotton? Never in this lifetime. The point is that by and large we don't really look to sign young players for the first team. TP just isn't interested in doing it. Of the ones he has signed in recent years, there's just Begovic and Shawcross, with Shotton and Wilson stuck out of position as sticking plasters more often than not.
