If he had been mentally and physically 100% then I doubt we would have got him. We took a gamble on a player who in many ways was just what we needed. Perhaps the most worrying thing is that after this experience both Pulis and more importantly PC will be reluctant to take chances on players. So more Ba type failed transfers and less Fuller style spectacular gambles. Spot on foxy

However, I think that he was a big part of the deal to secure the services of Peter Crouch. Let's hope that Wilson will return to form - he needs to be in the starting eleven more often to get the message that we value him here at the club. Then sub him if necessary. A new forward or midfielder to link with, may also give him the chance to play to his potential He shouldn't be in the starting XI if he isn't fit or isn't putting the effort in. Nobody should be guaranteed their place.

I was thrilled when we signed Palacios and thought he was the perfect signing for us - strong defensive cover, breaking up play and allowing us to be a bit more adventurous.
I am now worried he has been a big mistake. He actually wasn't the defensive colossus i was expecting though he did look at times our most comfortable midfielder on the ball and an excellent passer but if he can't get fit in an entire season I just don't see how he will get fit pre-season unless an injury has been the problem.
Heres hoping !!!

Have faith, he'll come good and be our player of the season next season, scoring a handful from centre mid whilst maintaining our defensive solidarity in his cage duties.

To me - the way to get a player match fit, is that you pick him and give him games
My conclusion resulting from his almost dysfunctional use was, that there must have been a lingering injury concern and we were wrapping him in cotton wool in terms of the painfully slow way we seemed to be bringing him back
unless of course - the blokes a total arsehole and cant / wont do as he is told, on or off the pitch
I wonder with great interest -which conclusion will prove to be correct ?
A lot of our next season hinges on Palacios forcing his way into our moribund and increasingly hopeless (really) championship quality centre midfield

Beyond a few glimpses of what he can really do he was a shadow of the player he can be. Maybe its simply that the player himself needs to take some responsibility and justify his signing fee and big fuck off wage?

Theres definately something amiss and something probably to do with the Crouch signing.

I think something more was going on than just the player being an asshole
i.e. my first conclusion - and the few times I saw him - I saw him as near totally match fit and, a shining light in a sea of mediocrity
maybe, come to think of it - thats what might have totally pissed him off
playing next to lumbering clods like Glenn Whelan - Rory Delap and Dean Whitehead ?

I must have been watching a different player then. He seemed barely interested a lot of the time. I once had a pet tortoise who covered more ground than Wilson on a good day. And thats without any wind. TBH maybe it was Deano working endlessly alongside him that made Palacios look so lazy.

I thought he was recovering from a serious injury and that he was being brought back in slowly?

As far as I'm aware his lack of fitness has everything to do with the player himself and precious little to do with his previous injury.
That's the concern and that's why unless Tone follows him wherever WP goes, no amount of training is going to change the situation.

I honestly think Palacios doesn't give a flying fuck about Stoke City and has to pinch himself to realise that he actually signed on the dotted line.

He probably thinks he's a footballer and not a long distance runner. What I mean is he probably thinks he is fit enough to be the footballer that played for Wigan & Spurs, only due to our inability to play er.. well.. er football he has to be fitter than he ever has been.

He hasn't looked fit by anyone's standards though has he Yogi? If we're just talking about what we've actually seen, divorced from any agendas about the manager one way or the other.

He looks like a player that doesn't want to be here to me, allthough the south american game what he grew up on isn't about kick, rush and chase it's a far more swansea-esque style, very stop & start, whereas playing for Stoke is a whole new ball game, literally.

Let's not pretend he's Luka Modric - he's a combative defensive midfielder, on paper he should be right up our street. The Wigan team he excelled in had plenty of kick and rush up to a target man as well.

He's a professional footballer, it's up to him to an extent to adapt. Given that he's been clearly blowing out of his arse before an hour's been played frequently in the season just gone, it's pretty clear he is unfit as well.

As far as the fitness goes it looks to me he is happy living off the name he made for himself at wigan for the time being, money in bank and all. It's Much like seeing a single bird who looks after herself, then she finds a fella gets comfortable with him and goes fat. I still think he doesn't get how we 'do it' aswell.

Yeah I'd agree with that. An element of needing to 'learn our ways' as Kemp said after Marc Wilson's debut. So expect another six months on the bench and then the chance to make the right back spot his own

I think that we'll be surprised next season. No doubt that Wilson has the ability to become a complete legend at this club. A good pre-season refreshes everybody and if we can get someone decent to play along side him, we'll be laughing! I have high hopes because his potential is undeniable!
