Dave i don't think you should ever start a thread with the word 'official' in again read your post and felt all warm and tingly instantly forgetting the terrible football this year then I carried on reading the responses and I was brought straight back down to earth.
I honestly think we will sign a few quality players this year however they will be late on due to us being an un-desirable club the way I see think of it is if I was Jarvis/Hoilett or anybody else your probably going to have 5-6 clubs of our calibre chasing Sunderland/Fulham/west brom/villa etc then look at possible wages, Stoke are not going to be top of any players list so we will have to wait too see what TP pulls out of the bag on deadline day but I will always keep the faith in TP every year we have done good business and long may it continue

Every thread I see seems to suggest Defoe there is no chance in hell of him coming here he may leave Tottingham but could di a hib for any club in this league yes crouch might have a word in his ear like but even still his wages would be too much for us woul not be surprised to see him go Newcastle or Liverpool

I can't see us spending big in the summer, certainly not to the extent of paying £10 million for one player as we did with Crouch.
Instead we'll try and pick the bones of the relegated sides and look for a few freebies. Not that it will be a bad thing, there ate some decent players in the sides that have gone down.
I would imagine/hope we would be looking at:
Jarvis, Fletcher from Wolves
Dann, Olsson, Pederson, Hoilett from Blackburn
Diame on a free
I also hope that we go back in for Matt Phillips from Blackburn.

Olson & whtittingham would be 2 good starters
No doubt TP will pull out all the stops for the Yak too....but you need to feed the Yak to score, so more emphasis on people to get the bloody ball in would be a help!

I just hope we go for realistic targets who will improve our weakest positions and don't go for unrealistic targets that we waste our time on. Olson would be a very good start.
I'd go for something like this.
RB Bego/Sorro (no change needed)
RB Wilko/Wilson (will do a job)
CB Ryan/Huth with Upson as cover (maybe a young CB brought in to learn his trade someone like Hanley perhaps).
LB Upson (Olson or similar is a must)
LW Matty (Jarvis would be ideal)
CM Palacios/Whitehead/Whelan (If Palacios gets fit only 1 in. I'd like Diame or N'Zonzi)
RW Pennant (If he goes 2 in if he doesnt I'd go with Whittingham who can also play CM. Other options the likes of Snodgrass or even the lad from Brighton whos impressed me)
CF Crouch/Jones/Walters (2 in for me I'd go for some youth with a Redmond or Zaha to play alongside Crouch and some experience like Yakubu.

Whilst we're at it we might as well sign Lee Tomlin, Andy Reid, Jon Parkin + Ronaldo and watch the Britannia pitch slowly sink into the ground.

Right, worried about chances of landing Philips if Blackpool go up, but we can look at Brum players who may fancy a promotion their team now can't offer - Nathan Redmond and Guirane "Shock" N'Daw anyone?

. . . . Adomah ( Bristol City ) and I'm warming to the big Yak idea. Don't know why. Think Adomah would be a great cover for the wings and could spur Pennant/Ethers into action. I would have thought he was affordable.

Yakubu has done ok in a pretty poor Blackburn side. I think he has the build for us and could offer us a new goal threat.
Its something slightly different and I deem him more of a threat in front of goal than Walters.
I wouldnt turn my nose up at him as we have no chance of signing a player like Defoe. Yak is a realistic target should Pulis be interested.
