What's the common thinking here re. Kightly? Backup to Pennant or front line replacement?

I'm not sure if I misunderstood what that supposed friend of Kightly said. Did he bascially mean that we have agreed personal terms but not a fee with Wolves? So that doesn't really mean anything then does it?

When Kightly first broke onto the scene prior to Jarvis finding his form, wasn't he also touted as an England possible? I have to say that prior to his bad injury I really liked Kightly and would have welcomed him to Stoke. The injury took the shine off him for a good while and Jarvis got the plaudits. If Kightly is back to full fitness then he's a good option to have although he is right footed (as is Jarvis really) and might be more of a threat to Pennant that Matty. Or, he could play left and cut in but I've never been a fan of this tactic. In a front three (with our exciting new striker!) he could also function effectively.

Well made points, but do you think he's better than we've already got? Surely he won't come if he's only making up the numbers, so one of our current wingers will have to make way. Playing on their best form, I think both our wingers are better than any similar players in the teams of our close rivals.

* Stoke actually sign a player before June is even upon us * Player decides against keeping shtum until everything is sorted and tells his mate who then spews it all over Twitter for the world to see * When the news breaks and the story is all over the web, twitter etc Stokies ask Knightly's "mate" if its true. He then rings Kightly to ask and he says "yeah, its all spot on. Make sure you keep telling everyone on Twitter."
Which of the above statements are believable? Do any of them seem even 0.3% probable?
You've got to love the close season.
Its a fuckload of complete and utter horseshyte that most people seem to love lapping up.
Jesus wept.
Nothing will happen for another 6 weeks at least.
If it does, IEMOA.

Listen, we need a surrogate Davesviews figure - and we aren't fussy about whether he's a bald, cockney, West Ham fan DJ or not! Us signing a player before mid-August is where the whole house of cards begins to crumble though

Why would he rip us with a story about Michael Kightly?.
You think if he wanted to make it remotely funny he would make up a better, more thrilling proposition to tease us with.
Like most of us will be bothered if he doesn't sign.

Like most of us will be bothered if he doesn't sign. It gets us all talking about it (in here and in its own thread) and its more believable than saying Messi will sign.. Don't you think Kightly (or more so his agent) would be a bit miffed with his mate for letting the cat out of the bag, so to speak..? If someone on here opened a thread to say he'd just had a call from a mate who grew up with ' insert player here' and said player has told him that he's signing for us, it's a done deal... Would we believe it, even from a Stoke fan let alone one of those feckin eejits...?

Mark Holmes þ@Homzy @sirtonypulis I'd be guessing mate. It's questionable whether Pulis even knows himself yet. Ask me in six weeks!
Kind of ties in with the "Kightly has already signed" malarky.

The thing that lends it some degree of credibility is that he's tweeting in his own name, and not hiding behind some faceless username. And initially his audience was not Stoke fans, and that wasn't something he went looking for. He was just addressing his little gaggle of West Ham fan mates.

Hi guys, Wolves fan in peace!
Just to let you know, Kightly is actually a Spurs fan, not a "big WHU fan" as his "mate" claims, so I'd imagine that is b******s to be honest. Jarvo and Fletch much more realistic targets.
Think Fletch would be an awesome signing for you guys, 12 league goals for the worst team in the league is pretty impressive and I think we could fetch £10m for him as we signed him for £7m two seasons ago and he's been our top goal scorer for the last two seasons.
Jarvis on the other hand probably not £10m if we're honest, although I can't see him going for less than £7m as he's got 3 years left on his contract (as has Fletch) and due to our financial position we have no real reason to sell for cheap. He did end the season on fire though to be fair to him and finished on 8 goals (I think) which again isn't too shabby for a team who performed as badly as we did last season!
All the best anyway lads, there's a long way to go in this window and I'm sure there will be loads of twists and turns yet!
