That's an appalling stat but having sat through the dirge which has been on offer this season it doesn't surprise me. For once it would be nice for TP to be asked how he intends to address this next season. Over to you Nige.......

We have to get 4 goals in our last 2 games, just to average a goal a game.

It's beyond poor and can be looked at in isloation, irrespective of the season we've had or where we finish up. You can't really defend it, even if you're name is March4.

If we had a manager who picked his best team, instead of his favourite players playing out of position, we could have finished a hell of a lot higher, which would put a LOT more money in the coffers for next season

Very true Mutters, all the more frustrating that we know with a few tweaks here and there and a few players in to replace those square pegs we could have had such a better season. Maybe with no Europe next season we will be looking for a a better run? H

It's something we all know has been a big let down and in need of serious work when it comes to creativity and scoring goals - even shots on target.
The 'top seven division' stat we keep hearing is a bit of a pointless one to tie in though given some leagues have already finished their season and all the other divisions below the Premiership have more teams and play more games. By comparison it's just as easy to say Newcastle have been terrible in front of goal compared to the four teams making up the Championship play offs in West Ham, Birmingham, Blackpool and Cardiff.

And funnily enough this is one of the most memorable seasons in our 149 year history. Only on paper it is for anyone outside of Stoke. We play dull, boring football and considering the object of a football game is to put the ball in the opposistions net. We are a joke, a Premier League club lowest scorers in 7 English leagues. Pathetic.

No doubt it is a worrying stat but to be fair Football League teams do have an extra eight games a season. So would have thought there should generally be a good chance that the lowest scoring team in the Prem will be the lowest scorers in all divisions.

Bit of a habit for Tony isn't it? In 95/96 he got Gillingham promoted with 83 points, from Division 3 (Division 4 in old money). They scored just 49 goals in 46 games. They conceded just 20 goals in 46 games - only 6 goals at home in 23 games. Goalkeeper Jim Stannard kept 29 clean sheets, which is a record that still stands I believe in a 46 game season. www.soccerbase.com/tournaments/tournament.sd?tourn_id=252

Well, as always, there's two ways of looking at this. Yes it's pretty awful and yet we comfortably survive in the Premier League. We could slit our wrists safe in the knowledge that we'll score just as few next season
OR
We could take the view that, if we've done relatively well with that appalling total, just what could we achieve with a little tinkering?

Whetehr it's at the ground, on the radio, down the pub or on the home t.v. Football supporters spend 57 hours a season watching their team play. That's not including travel too and from that is just game play. Is it too much to ask to be entertained and the manager to field an attacking team just for at least 40 hours of a season? apparantly so

It`s a disappointing stat, however in the interest of fairness, we have played less games than teams in the football league.
are we still the lowest on a goals per game basis???

Shocking statistic.
The worst thing about it though is that Pulis probably believes that this means he should be buying another striker. Whereas in reality, he has the players at his disposal if he consistently plays with the correct style (and i'm not talking arsenal tippy-tappy, we should mould ourselves in the style that Norwich play).
