Well Pulis has spent much more money and I don't think our starting 11 is any better than Wigan's. Shawcross and Huth are in a different league to Alcaraz and Caldwell. Upson and Woody are better than them too. Bego and Tommy are better than Al Habsi and cost less. Crouch, Jones, Fuller, et. al are better than Rodallega, Moses and Connor Sammon Palacios when fit will be a much better player than anyone in their side. Pennant is better than Maloney and Beausejour (he also cost less than Beausejour). Ethers may have been poor this season but he is still a much better player than Beausejour and cost less. McCarthy is a good little player but we have better players. Whelan and Deano - despite their shortcomings - are at least as good as Gomez, McArthur, Diame etc. Wilko may have had a mare yesterday but Emerson Boyce is hardly much better than him. Overall we have a much better team and squad than they do.

There are some classics on this thread It's comedy gold ;D As funny as "prepare for silverware" and "there's nobody in the Europa League who can beat Stoke". ;D

Back from the dead? Why were they in that position in the first place? If we hadn't gone out in our flip flops on the last day last season they'd have gone down. Signed some right dross. "Plays the game the right way" but they've scored less goals than anybody and today was their second home win of the season. How is he any better than the other managers they've had recently? if you read the thread, he's on about him being manager of Stoke, not the evaluation of the Wigan players... Yeah. Thanks. My point was, what's he done to warrant the acclaim?

You can smell it if you close your eyes and concentrate. ;D And we did go closer to beating an Iberian team than our more famous peers. Seriously, I wonder if anyone will break the stranglehold that Spanish/Portugese clubs seem to have on the Europa thingy.

Dave, what did you make of Stenny's posts about the Mick Mills era and the birth of the Oatcake fanzine? Whats that march? Please direct me to aformentioned remarks. Stenny deleted his account and then the thread disappeared. He was implying that the start of the Oatcake led to the sacking of Mick Mills and our descent under Alan Ball. I'm sure someone will correct that if I got it wrong.

The idea that start of The Oatcake led to Mills sacking is utter bollox. I know Stenny is supportive of Mills and fair enough it's his view. However, implying that is so far off the mark it's hard to know where to start.

I've had this conversation about Mick Mills several times and to be honest I don't really see why stennyman felt the need to resurrect the debate. He has his opinion and I (and others) have mine and they clearly aren't going to change.
Similarly, I can't see any reason why he would want to delete his account over a completely pointless argument, but still, he's done it several times now.
Back on the subject of Martinez, I think he's being pretty harshly judged to be honest. Wigan have struggled in five of the seven seasons they've been in this league, and Martinez hasn't really had the financial backing afforded to the likes of Steve Bruce. In fact, he has spent about five million pounds more in the three seasons he's been at the club than TP spent on his squad last summer alone. He undoubtedly has one of the smallest wage bills in the league, so it's difficult to imagine what's expected of him year in year out other than keeping his team in the league.
Would I want him as our manager? No, probably not, but I don't think he's a bad manager at all.
