What about Bob Dylans old group the Band. They did some superb albums in the late 60s and one brilliant farewell concert in 1976 called the last walze

one band who released two great albums then disappeared into oblivion where only their die hard fans even cared that they carried on bringing out progressively worse material year on year whilst the rest of the British public just politely forgot about them....Oasis!

UK Subs. One of the hardest working and most underated punk bands in the business. Saw them at the Box in Crewe in December. Lead singer Charlie Harper is 67 years old but has more energy than most frontmen half his age. Honourable mentions also for Angelic Upstarts, Dead Kennedys, Magazine, Penetration and the mighty Hanoi Rocks.

It's funny though, a lot of the bands mentioned on here (mine included) are not forgotten and still have a big cult influence on things. Take the uk subs for example, they can still sell out big gigs outside of the uk.

It seems a lot of UK punk bands have decent followings overseas, which shows the level of influence they have had, but its sad they appear to be under appreciated over here. I took my wife to see the Subs, she's not into rock music but she wanted to see them out of curiosity and was absolutely blown away by the energy of the performance and the audience. Charlie Harper signed my copy of 'Tomorrows Girls' afterwards and she was impressed with how down to earth and approachable he was. They made a new unlikely fan that night. Most of the bands on this thread are forgotten by the mainstream but fortunately, because of the contributors on here and similar music fans around the country/world they will always maintain a hardcore following. Long may it continue.

Not to mention Charlie is 68 in May and they still spend practically the whole year touring!

Charlie Harper walks it like he talks it. The lyrics to 'I Couldn't Be You' on their debut album could be his autobiography. He has always stuck to his principles and never sold out. The day he hangs up his mic will be a very sad one indeed.

Has to be Ride for me. If they reformed it would be a double whammy as Andy Bell is currently in Beady Eye and his leaving would hopefully split them up.

The Ruts were a good band. 'Babylon's Burning' still seems to make it onto every punk compilation so maybe they aren't completely forgotten. Maybe it's an example of a particular song being remembered more than the band who recorded it? In a tragically similar way to Joy Division, the sad death of their singer, Malcolm Owen, ended a band who still had much to offer.
