I was actually quite close to Hillsborough at the time, selling fake tickets for the game that me and my uncle had spent the night before making. We were pretty lucky actually, bloody loads of Liverpool fans had turned up without tickets, thanks to the kick-off being delayed we managed to make sure that every one of them got a ticket.
Me and my uncle were probably the only positive story to come out of that day because we made an absolute killing.

Ashamed to admit I really didn't know too much about this until I watched the Netflix Documentary last night. Absolute disgrace how the Police leadership failed and then attempted to cover up the true story of what happened that day, It did however bring me back to the late 80s and maybe why I felt so strongly about leaving the UK. (I left in 89). What transpired, to me, seemed to represent all the reasons why at that time I thought the US was a better place for me. Over time the UK seems to have improved, but watching this documentary brought it all back for me. RIP those who did not make it home that day.

I was at the match with a friend who is a Forest supporter. As the incident unfolded to my left at first I thpight it was 'crowd trouble'.ThenI looked down on the pitch side and saw a man giving a young lad mouth to mouth. We were asked to leave the ground and he area and did so.It was only on the car radio on the way home didwe really realise the enormity of it all. When I got home it was clear from my wife that those who were watching on the television had a quicker overview than we at the ground did. Obviously I have followed the enquiries/debates with close interest over the years, always contact my friend on the anniversary and pay my respects at the Anfield memorial when I go to the Stoke away match. As an ex-Police officer my two main feelings are ...Guilt that I didn't stay behind to try to help and anger that the Police statements were doctored after the event....totally unnecessary

The Police leadership knew the ground had had a similar problem in the past. Hard to believe that while the "truth" is now clearly obvious there is no legal recourse for the families whose lives were ruined in this tragedy.

I was at home and watched the TV bulletins. I seem to recall that I was watching Grandstand or something and they interrupted it; it was before the days of live footie and wall-to-wall sports radio. I suspect that not even R5L was around then.
