Now we know why Tone rested the wingers today. I know it's Barca, but how easy have they got down their wings tonight. Ball in behind their full back and they're away, bit like what Walters did in the first couple of minutes of the first leg.
Think Rafa has said this is the way to get in behind them and Tone is going to do it. Didn't have much joy out wide in the first leg when they camp behind the ball, but when you break on them with pace in behind that looks their weak spot.
Two wingers Jerome and Fuller!

There's an England flag in the crowd about level with the Valencia penalty area. Probably some Stokies taking in the game, sussing out the opposition

I'd like to think we'll go two wingers with Ric and Jerome with Whitehead and Wheelan in the middle. Can't see it though. Unlikely to drop Crouch and Walters so I'm at least hoping for those four in midfield, any change up top is a bonus.

I said before, during and after the game - the way to urt a five man midfield is to play it in the channels early for Fuller. Thursday was made for him to stretch them and win stuff for us.
On;y when CJ came on did we even attempt this.
try to get in a football match with Valencia, they will hammer us. Play like we did in March 2011 and we have a sniff

Praise and Grumble on Radio Barcelona is going to be interesting later. Barca fans will have turned up expecting to get three or four past this outfit.
But no doubt Juan Acres will continue to toe the "we're second ffs" party line.

Valencia play a high defensive line and pace is required to get in behind them - playes such as Jerome and/or Fuller would give them a greater problem than the taller players (Crouch/Jones) that TP may chose to play against them. Just an observation like

AlanHansen. I'd like to see Rick and Jerome up top, with Matty and Pennant out wide, but i'd go for Deano and Palacios as we need to keep the ball better on that big pitch and Palacios is better than Whelan at that even on his off day.
As we know Tone likes his impact subs, and i think he will keep his 'up top pace' (Ric/Jerome) on the bench for last half hour. Trouble is with that, by then, we could be 3 goals adrift.

Thursday is set up for Fuller to start with Crouch I think. Jerome coming on. Walters shouldn't start this one.
We need to attack, & that = hit them on the break with Fuller, Etherington & Pennant on the pitch.
Lets face it, if were not careful were gonna get beat the shit out of.. So playing with them 3 is a must. Hoofing the ball n.hoping got us nowhere last week, they are to experienced.

This is football from another planet. Barca are doing to Valencia what they did to Stoke.
Fabregas is a slimy scumbag but he is some footballer.

Yeah we should, we are not a big european club, contrary to popular belief on this forum of course Stoke have more right to be in the Uefa Cup this season than Valencia. I think I read somewhere the other day that the current Valencia side cost less than the Stoke side.

6th hatrick of the season for Messi. Valencia played pretty well. If 20 odd shots from a team like Barca only translates to 3 conceded by valencia, Stoke will do very well to score at all. Valencia are a top team still can't wait, flying out tomorrow for a game never dreamed possible.

They're lucky they're not about 7 behind. Being opened up at will. Pity we haven't got a midfield who can play people in.
