Last season, the best in our history, we had two bad runs, not dissimilar to this. In October/November 2010 we lost 4 on the trot and in February/March 2011 we played 4, lost 3 and drew 1. When it means so much to you, these losing streaks are really hard to bear, but you just have to keep your head up, get behind them, and accept that a team that got to 8th in the Prem can't become a poor side overnight. Had we not be facing Valencia on Thursday and Crawley next Sunday, we might have seen a different starting XI today. Can't lose my faith in TP, sorry. I was there when they tried to hound Waddo out of the Club in 1968, and that would have been a bit premature wouldn't it? Ek I have to say that you must be reading my thoughts. I'm with you, pal. I witnessed that too. Those who don't learn from the mistakes of history are doomed to repeat them. I think we are rapidly getting there. Shame really. I was/am enjoying our first real success for many, many years.

Whato. I do like a tearful 'that's it, I'm done' post more than any other. This thread is one whole sorry exercise in big girls blousery. Some of you need to zip up your vagina's and suck it up a bit.
Worse than the Little era indeed. Tsk.

13th in league. 5th round of the FA Cup. Valencia in the Europa Cup. Look where we have come from, only Pulis could have got us here, no other manager could have done it, look at Charlton, if we got rid of Pulis we would get relegated. H Playing Devils advocate look at the Sunderland situation didn't Bruce take them up. Look how O'Neills turned them around. If the right mans put in it could be a masterstroke. You can't base everything on the Curbishley situation as he wasn't taking them down when he left. TP's done brilliantly at Stoke but he's not bulletproof. Forest kept Clough too long and he did take them down.

What an excellent post. I've often thought there should be some form of posting delay on matchdays on here, just to let the more extreme views (on both sides) have a bit more time to calm down and think about it a bit more. (Cue, "I don't need more time to know that Clueless will take us down" type comment ) "I'm afraid to say that the worst part of my matchday, by far, is coming on this board after a defeat, or even after a draw." Same for me, MD. Didn't bother with it last night at all. I can quite understand people taking a break from spending too much time on this or any other message board. Most of us probably do (most without a long post advertising the fact mind). I get so depressed by watching some periods of this season I avoid even listening to sport on the radio on the way to work so I understand the spirit of it. However to claim that reading people bitching about the performances is more depressing than paying good money to have your weekend ruined by the shite that is being passed off as football in front of us and is becoming a trial of endurance to watch is just beyond my comprehension. I'd suspect I needed for more than a rest from a message board if that was the case to be honest.

We ought to be marketing half season tickets (second halves only) next year if Pulis is still here with his stupid "I'm a genius" experiments with players in strange positions and leaving out the very best players until 60 minutes have gone.

Whilst I understand Dave's frustration (and everyone else's), it didn't escape my notice that Sunderland came to Stoke (who, as we know, are in poor form and not scoring) with seemingly no-one up front! Everton's visit to Stoke last season saw them barely even attempt to mount an attack (with fans deriding their five in midfield, negative tactics). Those teams were led by much coveted managers... Yes, but the difference is, it's fucking worked! They are coming to play at stoke like that for a reason, to quieten the crown and outnumber us in the middle. And guess what? Tactical Tony isn't fucking changing anything to deal with it. Just teh same old 4-4-1-1 with two defensive midfielders, and eventually over 90 minutes we make a mistake and get punished.

MCF, surely even you can appreciate the shittiness of the shit we are enduring at present, highlighted best by the stubborn bugger's refusal to play our best, sorry only, right winger because he is in a bit of a sulk with him?
I appreciate what Tone has done for us, but by eck he doesn't half frustrate when he drives us into a slump like this one. We have had them before and come out of them, so I hope this current one is also temporary, but it is still grim viewing at present and no mistake.

I expect ups and downs...part of football. I think he's making it difficult for himself by not playing his best team but I'll wait and see how it plays out before I say too much

There is a massive difference between complaining about negative tactics and team selections and some of the shite that has been posted on here.

I pay what amounts to a few quid a week to Flashsportstreams to sit with my feet up with a cuppa to watch our games on my laptop at home, so I am not the right person to criticise the views of those who spend far more hours and far more of their available cash at present to follow us the length and breadth of the country who are suffering the dross we are serving up now. I feel for them, I really do, as I have been there, and in far more depressing times in the division two below the one we are in now, watching football that was light years behind even what we are producing at present.
We need to take stock as a club in the summer - for now, let's hope we can use the cup matches to recover some form, unity of purpose and clarity of vision. As for Tone personally, I hope he can take a step back and view things a bit more objectively, to look at what is the best team for each game based on managing the resources he has available to him, to remove the tag of "untouchable" from certain individuals and give others a renewed chance to prove their worth.

I'm probably never going to like him, too much water under the bridge but if he'd just stop being such a cock and spend some time thinking about winning games instead of killing them. I'd be only too happy to stop complaining.

Whats the general vibe at the moment amongst stokies who were there? Many want him out? Sorry mate, not ignoring you. Battery died on the train journey home. The concourse was a pretty depressed place at half-time. I don't think you'd find many who want him out to be honest else they probably wouldn't be there but there were a lot of pissed off Stokies crying into their beer. Have to disagree with you there Jamo, the mood in the temperance before the match and in the concourse at half time was very anti pulis even among the southern supporters. Also there was a couple of scuffles during the first half, i hate to see stokies falling out among each other, one day pulis will be gone but the club and supporters will still be here.

The mood in the temperance was just fine until people started to get wind of what the team was.
Then people started to talk about Crouch and Jones up front, Walters wide and no Pennant or Fuller.
They were right to do so.
That said, I have recovered from the frustration now (probably due to having bought 6 Valencia tickets in sector 062 this morning) and I can't wait for Thursday.
I won't be going to Chelsea or Spurs (first time I will have chosen not to attend a game for 15 years) but I can't wait to support the lads on Thursday. Let's hope we aren't deflated again prior to kick off.

After waiting for years to reach the "promised land" it seems strange to not want to go anymore. My mate is a PNE fan and would give his right nut to watch his team reach the prem and "lose every game 5-0"

I never said that was me done from the forum or for all games MoMO.
Away games, that cost a fortune and where I attend on my own or with only 1 of my pals, are, for this season at least a thing of the past.
As for the glory games, I actually prefer the away days at Blackburn, Wigan, Bolton, Wolves, WBA etc than the so-called glamour games v Liverpool, Manure, Man City, Spurs, Arsenal etc.
It is too much money, too frustrating and a damn pain in the arse. Had I heard Dave Kemp's comments pre-match, when justifying the team selection for Saturday, I swear to god I would have given my ticket away and stayed in the pub.
It is the mentality that is killing me at the moment. I have seen too much shit to be really concerned about our present team and prospects, and I have loved every minute of each European Away game, but I am a miserable fucker after games these days and it is taking me too long to recover from the frustration after watching another inept performance and approach from the manager.

I think you are very honest, dj1, and unafraid to say what many others are feeling.
And yet the stupid thing about it all is that it's all so unneccessary unless you conclude that TP is deliberately overcontrolling our progress to manage expectations and ensure greater longevity in the job. For as long as we're progressing (on paper), he's got another season...
