1. To begin with, you currently sit in 8th place in the league and have had what appears to be an enjoyable European campaign too bar a couple of results. What've you made of your season so far? Have you relished being back in Europe after a long absence?
Europe has been amazing, this season has certainly lived up to all of my expectations and then some. Not all plain sailing though, some terrible results and very lacklustre performances along the way, but great season so far, particularly as we are joint top of the 8-game form table!
2. Do you think the European excursions have had an effect on your league performances and results?
The certainly did for a while – Sunderland 4-0 Stoke a case in point. But towards the end of the group stages more rotation seemed to do the trick. The second 11 won’t cut it against Valencia though…
3. What are your aspirations for the second half of the season and where do you want to finish, realistically? Do you feel you're currently on target for the goals you set yourselves at the beginning of the season?
Top half with 50+ points and I’ll be happy. 8th or higher and I’ll be delighted Cups wise, Quarter finals in Europe and FA would be amazing, although getting past Valencia is a real task for us. Also, your lot knocking us out of the League Cup was annoying – I really fancied that this year, Wembley, a trophy and Europe are always more likely there than anywhere else for us I feel, particularly in the 40th anniversary of ‘72
4. What's the best thing about being a Stoke fan, and what's the worst?
Best thing: the consistent improvement for the last five years, both on and off the pitch. I can’t remember an equivalent period in all my time watching (and yes I am too young to remember Waddo) Worst thing: opening a paper/turning on the TV/radio and reading/seeing/hearing the same crap spouted by some no-mark about how we play no football, foul, cheat etc. and then hearing it parroted back at work/the gym/pub. That and hearing ‘how do they watch that every week’ from every other fan on the way out of an away game (a particular example being Birmingham last year).
5. Forgive me if I'm wrong. Didn't Pulis say a few years ago that once Stoke were established in the Premier League that he would change your style of play from what we've grown to associate with you? Do you feel the need to change, would you like to see something different or do you think it's a case of go with what works?
See above! Haha in all honesty if you asked most Stoke fans to swap the success for playing football the “right” way *throws up in mouth* they would tell you where to stuff it. I probably wouldn’t be so polite. I don’t think we have any apologies to make – our football is direct, exciting (Villa on Boxing day apart!) and enjoyable to watch, albeit maybe not on Sky. That said, those fans who don’t quite agree with me are also seeing improvement. Additions such as Crouch have changed what we do, when our wingers are on form they are great to watch, Whelan was having a great season before his (minor) injury, and players like Marc Wilson are far more cultured than the Daily Express would have you believe possible. I also genuinely believe that once Palacios finally beds in, we will see a significant step change in our ‘style’.
6. Do you think Pulis is in it for the long haul and can keep you moving forward as you have done every season so far?
I hope Pulis retires here. Cannot see anyone who could do a better job. As I said above, the improvement he has helped usher into the club has been staggering. That said, the Coates family have had at least as much to do with the moving forward, and their pockets, whilst deep, are not bottomless, most fans are expecting a tapering off of the progress right about now – January, for example is looking to be more about players going out than players coming in. And rightly so.
7. One of our former players joined you in the summer and he's one I've always rated and was a bit gutted we sold him in the first place, to be honest. What have you made of Peter Crouch so far and what impact has he had for you? What sets him apart from the other target men we've seen operate up front for you in recent seasons?
An absolute revelation. He started off good and has gotten better and better. His distribution/hold up play is great – our ball retention is noticeably better with him on the pitch. He is chipping in with a few goals, which is always a good thing, great head to have in the dressing room, and although its becoming something of a cliché, he’s better with his feet than his head.
8. This month's transfer window is open. Do you think you'll strengthen? What areas do you feel you need to improve in and what sort of players would you like to see come in?
I want cover for the wingers, someone like Snodgrass from Leeds. That being said I’m not expecting it. Pulis seems to like Jerome/Walters as cover there and we have young Ben Marshall looking very promising at Sheffield Wednesday. Rumours are abound as usual, the most persistent being Diame from Wigan (ideal for us) and Hoillet from Blackburn who seems to be linked everywhere. Proper fullbacks and creative midfielders are always needed under Pulis, but again, not expecting anything. This window seems to be about clearing the deadwood – Tonge, Soares etc. Danny Pugh has already gone, and will be missed by the fans but not on the pitch. If by the end of Jan the wage bill is lighter with the first 20 still intact, I’ll be happy. If we add one or two I’ll be very happy.
9. Your home support since you've been in the Premier League has been brilliant and it's widely acknowledged among the footballing world as being one of the best in the country. We've had a bit of a decline in our home support over the past few years vocally. What's your secret?
Our fans are still excited by whats going on I think. The Britannia funnels noise in a nice way and we have a large bank of uninterrupted supporters that generate the volume. The Etihad the other week was comically quiet again, but there it is the opposite, noise goes straight up, and the fans who sing are split either side of the away fans. It’s that or the lead in the water!
10a. I'm a bit adverse to talk about it but I feel as it's a hot topic at the moment, I should. We've been in the news for all the wrong reasons recently and I sincerely hope that a tiny minority haven't given us an unfounded nationwide label. From your personal experiences, do you think racism in football is as big a problem that has been made out by the media?
(I'd like to note here, I am on the forum posting this questionnaire for friendly banter and do not want to be subject to abuse I have received elsewhere. It is a sensitive subject and if you are being kind enough to answer the questions, I would prefer a sensible, reasoned answer for the next question. If you do not feel you have read into the case enough to answer in a reasoned or educated manner, please skip it and move on to the football. Thanks and much appreciated)
The most appalling thing I’ve seen in this whole saga that doesn’t appear to have been picked up in the press was the apparent singing of Suarez’s name when Tom Odeyemi was getting abuse the other night. That was sickening. Having said that, Liverpool is a proud club, that clearly has its idiots (just like us) but should not be written off as racist. Racism is clearly still around. Its better than it was, but now is the time to stamp hard on any instances, so as it does not fester and grow once more in my books. There certainly is far less racist chanting in the stands on anecdotal evidence, and it is normally met with disgust/disdain at any game I attend. All that being said the worst thing Liverpool have done was allow the players to wear those shirts when warming up. Stupid and offensive. Your fans would be well advised to limit the support of Suarez as well in my book, but it is somewhat understandable that you do not want to isolate/shun your best (by a mile) player!
10b. In regards to the Luis Suarez and Patrice Evra case, did you read the 115 page document released by the FA related to the verdict? If so, what did you make of the findings?
I agreed with the FA’s original verdict. I think he said what h said and he’ s earning thousands of pounds a day to play football in England, he should have realised that use of the terms he used is unacceptable here. (I also believe that the only reason those terms are more socially acceptable in Spanish speaking nations is that many have a much larger issue with racism). I think an eight game ban is perfectly reasonable. I hope John Terry gets at least that (as well as getting nowhere near the England captaincy). The way I see it if he said it in the stands he wouldn’t be allowed back at Anfield full-stop. He should take his ban, apologise, donate his wages for this period to Kick Racism Out of Football, shut-up and be grateful. No I didn’t read the verdict by the way. I honestly don’t see why I would as a non-Liverpool fan, sorry.
11. Onto the game then. We finally proved we could do it on a cold midweek night in Stoke back in October. How confident are you of getting a result coming to Anfield on Saturday?
But not in the league! Confident isn’t the word I’d use. I’d be happy with a point, honestly can’t call it. It depends a lot on what Stoke side turns up. Play like we did at Blackburn (aside from dodgy set-play defence) and I’ll be hopeful. Turn up like we did against Man City and you should bring an abacus.
12. What players do you see as your dangermen?
Crouch, Etherington, Pennant (who inexplicably is not an ever-present at the moment), Fuller for the last 20 mins, any and all from set pieces
13. What players of ours are you worried about?
Without Suarez you are a lot less intimidating. I’ve always liked Kuyt, Carrol has to come good sometime, and Gerrard is always always dangerous. To be honest it is more Stoke that worry me away from home than the opposition, our form is just so wobbly.
14. What kind of approach do you think you'll adopt at Anfield? Do you think you play in a different way when you play away from home? We certainly have to try play a different way when we come to Stoke thanks to the more narrow pitch, for example.
Hard to say, I think we will have the flexible 442/541 thing we’ve had recently, with Woodgate at RB joined by Shotton from RW. I really hope we don’t though! Proper 442 with both wingers and hit you on the break is what I would do.
15. What do you make of Liverpool's season so far?
A little yo-yo from the outside. I can’t stand Dalgliesh, although I can see why you love him. I think the cups are really important to you lot this season, you seem to have been pushed out of the top 6 all of a sudden, a little bit in no-man’s land, which I guess is why I haven’t been as aware of Liverpool as in previous seasons. You have just wasted so much money.
16. It's been a year to the week at the point of writing this that Kenny Dalglish has been manager at Liverpool again. What are your impressions of the job he's done in the past year?
Again, don’t like him, I think he’s done a mediocre job of handling the Suarez situation. A lot of money down the drain and no closer to breaking back into the top table than you were three seasons ago. He did stop the rot effectively though, just don’t think he can manage you long-term.
17. A fairly obligatory, but interesting question. Out of Liverpool's current squad, what 2 players would you like to see at Stoke? To make it a bit more interesting, you're not allowed Gerrard!
Kuyt and Lucas. Not the most glamorous players but would slot in and push us on no end. Can’t think of two who would do that much better to be honest.
18. On the flipside, what 1 player from Stoke are you hoping doesn't make the team sheet on Saturday?
Agger – you seem to look flimsy without him, and flimsy is very good for us from set-pieces.
19. What kind of game are you expecting?
A little scrappy, hopefully with action at both ends. If Pennant and Crouch play they should have good games, hopefully Palacios will continue his recent improvement. If that happens, it should be even and well-fought. It could go horribly wrong at any point for us though I’m afraid!
20. Finally, your score prediction?
1-1(1-2 with my red-and-white tinted glasses on, Crouch to score both)

14. What kind of approach do you think you'll adopt at Anfield? Do you think you play in a different way when you play away from home? We certainly have to try play a different way when we come to Stoke thanks to the more narrow pitch, for example. <defend and hope to only be one down after 70 minutes>
15. What do you make of Liverpool's season so far? <poor after a promising start from Dalglish - think Adam and Andy C have been a dissapointment - left back some talent though>
16. It's been a year to the week at the point of writing this that Kenny Dalglish has been manager at Liverpool again. What are your impressions of the job he's done in the past year? <glad to see you getting back to your roots - but have to say i liked the spaniard - hodgson was just not for you was he ?>
17. A fairly obligatory, but interesting question. Out of Liverpool's current squad, what 2 players would you like to see at Stoke? To make it a bit more interesting, you're not allowed Gerrard! <left back and right back - but to be honest i just love Andy Wilkinson and he'd push anyone for a place>
18. On the flipside, what 1 player from Stoke are you hoping doesn't make the team sheet on Saturday? <Salif - it would just show what our tactics are from the beginning>

Hi guys, Liverpool fan here (be gentle...). For every league home game we run a little piece called the Spyin' Kop on RAWK just to get the opposition's view ahead of their trip to Anfield for a bit of fun and friendly banter. You may remember another member came calling back in September ahead of our league match then. I've got a few questions and would really appreciate your honest answers to make this week's a success. Thanks in advance and I'll be more than happy to post the link to the thread once it's up and running. 1. To begin with, you currently sit in 8th place in the league and have had what appears to be an enjoyable European campaign too bar a couple of results. What've you made of your season so far? What kind of game are you expecting? 20. Finally, your score prediction? Thanks a lot. As I said, I would really appreciate your replies! 1) Europe is brilliant. In general, the foreign supporters we've encountered have been a real cut above any set of supporters in this country, Besiktas and Hajduk in particular. At the same time, our team have been a cut above anything that the continent has throw at us to date. The domestic season has gone well, too, and I think we deserve our 8th place position. 2) Yes and no. We're doing better in the league than at any point since our promotion. Despite this, there have been games where we haven't had so much as an afternoon to prepare for our games, which I believe led to our defeats against Newcastle and Bolton, where we were all over the place. That week, we played Newcastle on the Monday, had a European game on the Thursday and then Bolton on the Sunday. When were the team supposed to get to prepare for the next match, or work on their shape? 3) Our goals at the start of the season will have been a good, mid-table finish and at least one good cup run. We're still in two cups and sitting 8th in the league. We'll probably go out of Europe against Valencia, but there's no good reason why we couldn't get to Wembley again. I think we're well capable of doing that and getting a 10th place finish. 4) The best thing is that we're now witnessing what could end up being the finest era in our club's history. The worst is that we're constantly criticised for trying to play the game properly, with our hard-but-fair attitude, our refusal to dive and the respect we give to the referee, while other teams and players seem to flourish by cheating. Arsenal are the worst by a mile, but Suarez is my least favourite player in the league with his non-stop cheating antics. Here's the thing though, Stoke are constantly derided in the press and by opposition supporters, but Suarez and Arsenal are hailed in all quarters. How's that fair? 5) We are changing, slowly. We now play with two wingers and are much more dynamic. I don't want us to ever stop being a high intensity, direct team who play a hard-but-fair game. It's so much more emotive and you really feel in tune with the team. The same system, but with better players and a more successful approach away from home is the way forward. 6) TP is here for as long as he wants to be, really. Every year, some sections come up with this 'taken us as far as he can' stuff, going all the way back to when we were in the Championship. The fact is, every year he's proved those people wrong and we've got a little bit better. We've been going for 149 years now, but the 2010/11 season was definitely one of the very, very best in our history. I think he has a very clear plan for the future in mind. 7) Crouch struggled for a little bit (lack of time on the training pitch didn't really give him a chance to adapt), but he looks absolutely tailor made for us right now. He's definitely one of the first names on the team sheet. The question mentions our other target men; Crouch seems to combine a lot of their best qualities. Like Sidibe, he's a hard worker and in the air, he's capable of holding it up like Jones and he has something approaching the finishing ability of Beattie. Unlike Sidibe, he knows where the goal is, he's more consistent than Jones, he's better at link-up play than Beattie and he's not an utterly worthless, ungrateful waste of space like Kitson. 8) We'll bring in players because we need to. Apparently we're after more strikers, possibly because of the injury to Sidibe. We need cover for the flanks and a new player who can play left-back. 9) I think it's down to the relationship between the team and the supporters. It's a bit cliched, but there are no wasters in our squad, they'd all put their lives on the line for our club and they make you genuinely proud. 11) We won't get a result. We will set out to defend, gift an easy chance to you in the first half and then show no intention of getting back into the game. This is somewhere where I want to see us push on, I want us to start competing in away games against the big teams. I wouldn't say you did it on a cold, midweek night at Stoke - it was your first team against a very mixed team from us, after all. 12) If we play well and win, then it's likely that Etherington and Pennant will have been involved. Walters brings our whole game together, but he looks exhausted. 13) I have a sneaking feeling that Carroll will have a good game against us and Bellamy is the sort of player who could cause us problems. 14) We're completely different away from home, usually. We're timid and sit back. Though our away form has picked up lately, our away performances are usually characterised by meek surrenders and comical individual errors. I don't know why that is. Because teams are more inclined to attack and dominate at home, causing us to sit back more, perhaps. Quite often, team selection leads to more defensive performances. 15) I'd think you're a bit disappointed. You've not really pushed the top four this season, as I thought you might, and you're not even really looking any better than Arsenal. I was expecting a little better from you, really. 16) He did a good job of lifting the whole club after Roy Hodgson's brief reign, but I also think he's wasted an awful lot of money on some players who really aren't worth it - Carroll, Henderson and Downing spring to mind. 17) I'd have Reina in a flash. He's an excellent goalkeeper. I'm in two minds between Lucas and Kuyt for the other player, as they'd suit us down to the ground. Jose Enrique is just the left-back we're crying out for. 18) Woodgate. He's just not up to it at this level any more, plus he's been featuring at right-back this season. A consequence of this is that we've been playing a young centre-back who has been converted to a right back on the right wing in order to cover for his defensive mistakes (no, really). The theory seems to be that neither of them are quite good enough in that position, but if they both play then they join to form a halfway competent full-back. If Woodgate doesn't play and Shotton or Wilkinson come in at right back, then it means Pennant will start. We need both wingers to feature. 19) A one sided game of attack vs defence. 20) I make a habit of not doing score predictions, but I think you'll record a comfortable win and a clean sheet.

Great. Thanks for all of your replies so far, I've enjoyed reading them. I don't think I'll need any more replies but feel free to answer for a bit of entertainment yourselves and I'll see if I can fit the answers in.
One thing we certainly have in common is our dislike for London based journalism!

1. As you said we're currently sitting very nice in the table and we've got an exciting Europa League tie against Valencia however, this season there have been moments of worry, especially games after Europa League game, but the past two months we've been excellent and i just hope we continue on this excellent run of form (Only lost 1 in the last 8). I've relished being back in Europe as well and i can't wait for Valencia. 2It has, like i mentioned above, we couldn't pick up any points after Europa League games and this included defeats to Swansea, Arsenal and heavy defeats to Bolton and Sunderland. However, many fans believe all these games were away and we've been known as a poor away team so that has also been a factor. We did manage to beat Everton after a Europa League game so hopefully we've overcome this problem now. 3. Personally i would really love to see us maintain the form we're currently at and managed to get at least a top ten place. The past few seasons i've been happy with survival but i really would love to see us get into the top ten. 4. ]The best thing is the fact the club is constantly written off by everybody outside the area but we continue to surprise people. When we gained promotion we were favorites for relegation, then we managed to stay up and then we got to the Cup Final and now we're surprising people in Europe. The worst is probably is when we're bad we are awful and it can be horrible to watch. 5. He did say that and there have been moments when there have been clear evidence of a good footballing side. I do feel that now Palacios is getting a run of games in the side we will slowly improve but still keep the basic work rate and grittish performances we've always had 6.I do feel he can take this club further and he has the drive and ambition to do that so i am very happy to see him at the club for the long haul. 7. When we signed him Stoke fans were divided on him as some felt for the price was too much considering his age. He has been a revelation though and when he hasn't played we've sorely missed him. His touch and link up play is brilliant and he seems to be loving life at Stoke. His ability on the ball and his footballing brain have made him different to the likes of Jones and Sidibe. He just has a touch of class about him. 8. I do feel we still need to strengthen and bring in a fullback and a back up winger. This season when Etherington or Pennant haven't played/lacked form we've struggled so we need to bring somebody in. 9. Our noise has declined over recent seasons as well but i always notice when things are going against us the fans rally behind the lads and the noise levels rise. Incidents such as a terrible ref decision is a perfect example. 10a. I don't think it is a serious problem in this country, if you compare it to other countries, the problem is there have been several incidents in a short space off time which have been built up to make English football seem a racist game 10b. I can't really comment on the document itself as i've only read a few quotes from the document but i do believe South America/Spanish footballers need to realise what is acceptable in their countries isn't in our country. 11. ]No chance will we get a result. Pulis will set his team up for a point and we will invite pressure onto us and we just won't be able to cope 12. Crouch, as mentioned above, or the threat from Robert Huth from set pieces. 13.Gerrard can always change a game as he constantly shows time and time again during his time and i also really like him as a footballer. 14. As i said above we will sit deep and invite pressure on, trying to combat it, and then try and score from a set piece. Not pretty and will probably be frustrating for you guys but it will be a test for your players to see if they can break down a defence like Stoke. 15. ]I feel for the level of investment you should be challenging for a top 4 place, as you're, it is clear to see where you struggle. If you can sort out your lack of goals you could push on in the second half of the season and really challenge Chelsea and Arsenal for the top 4 place. I do feel Bent would be perfect for you as you do need somebody who is in the right place at the right time. 16. He has clearly installed confidence and belief into Liverpool again but i do feel for the money he has spent hasn't been paid back in the form of certain individuals (Carrol, Henderson, Downing). I do respect the fact he is trying to bring in young English talent and giving them a chance at the top level. 17. Dirk Kuyt. He has the workrate any Stoke player needs to play for the club but he also has a bit of quality we're maybe missing but the problem with Kuyt is his age. I know i've mentioned him above for not justifying his price tag but i do rate Downing as a very good player and he would be a threat on his day for any team. 18.As long as Salif Diao doesn't play i'm happy ;D 19. A very Liverpool dominated game with Stoke just trying to soak up the attacks 2-0 Liverpool
Have you relished being back in Europe after a long absence? 2. Do you think the European excursions have had an effect on your league performances and results? 3. What are your aspirations for the second half of the season and where do you want to finish, realistically? Do you feel you're currently on target for the goals you set yourselves at the beginning of the season? 4. What's the best thing about being a Stoke fan, and what's the worst? 5. Forgive me if I'm wrong. Didn't Pulis say a few years ago that once Stoke were established in the Premier League that he would change your style of play from what we've grown to associate with you? Do you feel the need to change, would you like to see something different or do you think it's a case of go with what works? 6. Do you think Pulis is in it for the long haul and can keep you moving forward as you have done every season so far? 7. One of our former players joined you in the summer and he's one I've always rated and was a bit gutted we sold him in the first place, to be honest. What have you made of Peter Crouch so far and what impact has he had for you? What sets him apart from the other target men we've seen operate up front for you in recent seasons? 8. This month's transfer window is open. Do you think you'll strengthen? What areas do you feel you need to improve in and what sort of players would you like to see come in? 9. Your home support since you've been in the Premier League has been brilliant and it's widely acknowledged among the footballing world as being one of the best in the country. We've had a bit of a decline in our home support over the past few years vocally. What's your secret? Thanks and much appreciated) 10b. In regards to the Luis Suarez and Patrice Evra case, did you read the 115 page document released by the FA related to the verdict? If so, what did you make of the findings? 11. Onto the game then. We finally proved we could do it on a cold midweek night in Stoke back in October. How confident are you of getting a result coming to Anfield on Saturday? 12. What players do you see as your dangermen? 13. What players of ours are you worried about? 14. What kind of approach do you think you'll adopt at Anfield? Do you think you play in a different way when you play away from home? We certainly have to try play a different way when we come to Stoke thanks to the more narrow pitch, for example. 15. What do you make of Liverpool's season so far? 16. It's been a year to the week at the point of writing this that Kenny Dalglish has been manager at Liverpool again. What are your impressions of the job he's done in the past year? 17. A fairly obligatory, but interesting question. Out of Liverpool's current squad, what 2 players would you like to see at Stoke? To make it a bit more interesting, you're not allowed Gerrard! 18. On the flipside, what 1 player from Stoke are you hoping doesn't make the team sheet on Saturday? 19. What kind of game are you expecting? 20. Finally, your score prediction? Thanks a lot. As I said, I would really appreciate your replies! Question 18. Delap. Also if you need 10,000 Red cards, to go with the 45,000 T-shirts, there's somebody who uses this mb, should be easy enough to get in contact with him. 2-0 Liverpool.

1. To begin with, you currently sit in 8th place in the league and have had what appears to be an enjoyable European campaign too bar a couple of results. What've you made of your season so far? Have you relished being back in Europe after a long absence?
A good solid start, then poor away form resulted in us going on a bad run, then a strong set of games with a few lucky breaks has pushed us back up. I think our team and money spent warrants 8th place. So a good season so far. The European journey has been exciting, every Stokie is glad to be back amongst the exciting European competition.
2. Do you think the European excursions have had an effect on your league performances and results?
All 6 games in Europe were followed by an away game for us (riddle us that?), we are notoriously poor away from home anyway so our situation was compounded. It is new for the manager and most of the players though, so stands us in good stead for the future.
3. What are your aspirations for the second half of the season and where do you want to finish, realistically? Do you feel you're currently on target for the goals you set yourselves at the beginning of the season?
We want to overhaul Newcastle, 7th place would be an excellent finish to the season. A strong run in the FA Cup and hopefully a surprise win against Valencia would be dreamland. I think Pulis set the team a top ten finish at the start of the season, and bar any major injuries, we should obtain that.
4. What's the best thing about being a Stoke fan, and what's the worst?
The best - creating rivalries with any team we play just to make a fiery atmosphere at the game. The worst – forgetting my coat when going to home games - its bloody cold up there.
5. Forgive me if I'm wrong. Didn't Pulis say a few years ago that once Stoke were established in the Premier League that he would change your style of play from what we've grown to associate with you? Do you feel the need to change, would you like to see something different or do you think it's a case of go with what works?
I think most informed fans can see we are evolving – albeit slowly. Pulis is buying in better footballers, but in the end it is the managers philosophy that will have to change, as he has never had this kind of money to spend before in his career. SCFC are moving forward in the way we play the game, but perhaps a bit too slowly for some fans.
6. Do you think Pulis is in it for the long haul and can keep you moving forward as you have done every season so far?
He’s definitely here for the foreseeable. I think he can move us to places above Villa and Everton. Until major investment is needed to bridge the gap of the top 6...
7. One of our former players joined you in the summer and he's one I've always rated and was a bit gutted we sold him in the first place, to be honest. What have you made of Peter Crouch so far and what impact has he had for you? What sets him apart from the other target men we've seen operate up front for you in recent seasons?
Crouch has been excellent, he didn’t score many at first, but he is involved in all the important build up play, and his touch and quality make our attacking threat much more potent. His impact has been great, and what sets him apart is his obvious quality on the ball and football intelligence. A big upgrade on Mama Sidibe, Dave Kitson, James Beattie and Kenwyne Jones.
8. This month's transfer window is open. Do you think you'll strengthen? What areas do you feel you need to improve in and what sort of players would you like to see come in?
A left back would be nice, Leighton Baines’ name is being thrown around, but that is laughable.
A back up winger with pace, or someone to replace the “behaviourally wayward” Jermaine Pennant is needed. Wilfried Zaha has been mentioned and has excellent potential.
9. Your home support since you've been in the Premier League has been brilliant and it's widely acknowledged among the footballing world as being one of the best in the country. We've had a bit of a decline in our home support over the past few years vocally. What's your secret?
The tribal nature of football lends itself to creating a localised, often violent community culture. Stoke lost a fair few fans over the 1980s – mid 2000’s. The charge up the table in the Championship brought a lot of them back, and the widespread negative media since we were promoted has made us all adopt a siege mentality, and created the “We are Stoke City, we’ll play how we want!” song. It is this “us versus them” attitude that has made the Britannia Stadium such a hard place to come and get a result.
Racism will always be a part of football sadly (in my opinion).
10b. In regards to the Luis Suarez and Patrice Evra case, did you read the 115 page document released by the FA related to the verdict? If so, what did you make of the findings?
I only read the précised version, it appeared to me that Suarez accepting he said what he said, made him guilty, rather than substantial physical evidence proving him guilty. Sets a dangerous precedent if in future the accused (whoever they may be) denies the allegations. What the hell happens then?
11. Onto the game then. We finally proved we could do it on a cold midweek night in Stoke back in October. How confident are you of getting a result coming to Anfield on Saturday?
Not very confident, though having Crouch playing with something to prove against his former club is a bonus.
12. What players do you see as your dangermen?
Without Suarez it will be how well we can contain Bellamy, Gerrard and/or Adam that makes the result.
13. What players of ours are you worried about? Bellamy, his pace will expose our slow defence. Carroll seems to have lost that nastiness to him, the bullying of centre backs that made him so horrible to play against when he was at Newcastle.
14. What kind of approach do you think you'll adopt at Anfield? Do you think you play in a different way when you play away from home? We certainly have to try play a different way when we come to Stoke thanks to the more narrow pitch, for example.
Park the bus, defend with two banks of four, play it up to Crouch to hold up until we can get men round him. Nick a goal – sit back and defend.
15. What do you make of Liverpool's season so far?
Kenny’s signings – bar Suarez haven’t done much for me personally. Downing doesn’t seem to contribute anything, though I think next season he will really settle down. Adam is not a Liverpool player, too slow, loses the ball too often, and will be found out against the big teams. Carroll as mentioned previously doesn’t seem to have settled at all yet, the same with Henderson. Enrique along with Suarez has been the best of his transfer dealings.
I think LUFC fans would like to be closer to the top 4, a few poor results away have lost them valuable points, games they need to win if they want to challenge for the Champions league. Steady but unspectacular season so far.
16. It's been a year to the week at the point of writing this that Kenny Dalglish has been manager at Liverpool again. What are your impressions of the job he's done in the past year?
He certainly stopped the demise you were experiencing under Roy Hodgson immediately. Liverpool are a team in transition, give it 12 months and I think you will be challenging for the top four again.
17. A fairly obligatory, but interesting question. Out of Liverpool's current squad, what 2 players would you like to see at Stoke? To make it a bit more interesting, you're not allowed Gerrard!
Easily Suarez (if he ironed out his cheating), and Lucas.
18. On the flipside, what 1 player from Stoke are you hoping doesn't make the team sheet on Saturday?
Jonathan Woodgate – primarily because Pulis will play him at right back, and I have a nasty feeling that after this week’s bad news, Downing will have a point to prove. So I would rather we played Andy Wilkinson at right back, and he will contain the Downing “assault” down the left wing.
19. What kind of game are you expecting?
Constant Liverpool pressure, intermixed with some decent counter attacking football by Stoke. A lot of long balls up to Crouch. Bellamy to score, sadly.
20. Finally, your score prediction?
2-1 to your lot.

Have you relished being back in Europe after a long absence? We’ve had a fantastic season so far with a far better squad than we have seen for years. Our success in Europe was unforeseen by most of us. If we can maintain 8th position in the league I would be delighted. 2. Do you think the European excursions have had an effect on your league performances and results? Not as much as has been reported. We never win many games away from home and all of our European games have been followed by an away fixture. Would we have won them had we not played in Europe? Doubtful. 3. What are your aspirations for the second half of the season and where do you want to finish, realistically? Do you feel you're currently on target for the goals you set yourselves at the beginning of the season? We have exceeded what I thought was possible in Europe given the group that we got. A top half finish in the league would be a great achievement. I also wanted us to beat one of the big clubs. Beating Spurs twice was great and we got close against Man United and Chelsea. Beating your lot was good as well. 4. What's the best thing about being a Stoke fan, and what's the worst? The best thing is the pride in following a good, honest, local club which has no room for prima donnas. One or two of our lads might be up for the occasional rugby tackle or left hook but they would not resort to pinching, bighting, diving, squealing, racist abuse or beating up women. 5. Forgive me if I'm wrong. Didn't Pulis say a few years ago that once Stoke were established in the Premier League that he would change your style of play from what we've grown to associate with you? Do you feel the need to change, would you like to see something different or do you think it's a case of go with what works? We didn’t play with two out and out wingers when we first came up. We often do (at home) now. We couldn’t attract ex Liverpool, Tottenham and England players 4 years ago. We can now. We have evolved and if Liverpool fans cannot appreciate that after our recent comfortable victories against you then you are not perhaps as knowledgeable as some would have us believe. 6. Do you think Pulis is in it for the long haul and can keep you moving forward as you have done every season so far? Yes Pulis is in for the long haul. He is the 4th longest serving manager in the division. We might plateau at one point but the finances of the club are good so progress can be made. 7. One of our former players joined you in the summer and he's one I've always rated and was a bit gutted we sold him in the first place, to be honest. What have you made of Peter Crouch so far and what impact has he had for you? What sets him apart from the other target men we've seen operate up front for you in recent seasons? Crouch is settling in well and was superb against Blackburn. His control and his passing are so much better than we are used to seeing from a Stoke target man. 8. This month's transfer window is open. Do you think you'll strengthen? What areas do you feel you need to improve in and what sort of players would you like to see come in? Maybe not although we would welcome an attacking full back and cover for a winger. Loans might be the way forward, although Baines from cash strapped Everton would be good. 9. Your home support since you've been in the Premier League has been brilliant and it's widely acknowledged among the footballing world as being one of the best in the country. We've had a bit of a decline in our home support over the past few years vocally. What's your secret? Local supporters chuffed to bits that after 23 years we can compete with the big boys. Racism is rife at most football clubs. Luis Suarez is an odious, cheating twat who plays for you who may or may not be racist (I'd like to note here, I am on the forum posting this questionnaire for friendly banter and do not want to be subject to abuse I have received elsewhere. It is a sensitive subject and if you are being kind enough to answer the questions, I would prefer a sensible, reasoned answer for the next question. If you do not feel you have read into the case enough to answer in a reasoned or educated manner, please skip it and move on to the football. Thanks and much appreciated) 10b. In regards to the Luis Suarez and Patrice Evra case, did you read the 115 page document released by the FA related to the verdict? If so, what did you make of the findings? No – too busy reading your 115 page questionnaire. I wouldn’t trust Evra as far as I could throw him after his antics in the last world cup. Suarez is a ticking time bomb. Good footballer but a cheat (as he was in Holland). What he said might be acceptable at home but it is not in Europe. If he wants European wages rather than Uruguyan wages then he plays by Europe’s rules. 11. Onto the game then. We finally proved we could do it on a cold midweek night in Stoke back in October. How confident are you of getting a result coming to Anfield on Saturday? Not at all. 12. What players do you see as your dangermen? Crouch, Walters, Pennant and Etherington but they won’t all play against you. 13. What players of ours are you worried about? Gerrard is a class above. 14. What kind of approach do you think you'll adopt at Anfield? Do you think you play in a different way when you play away from home? We certainly have to try play a different way when we come to Stoke thanks to the more narrow pitch, for example. Our pitch is the same size as Everton’s isn’t it? Do you play a different style there? We will park the bus and hope for a nil-nil. 15. What do you make of Liverpool's season so far? Crap for a club that has recently spent £57 million on two strikers. Plus Henderson and Downing and Enrique. 16. It's been a year to the week at the point of writing this that Kenny Dalglish has been manager at Liverpool again. What are your impressions of the job he's done in the past year? He did well last season. He has done poorly when measured against the money he has spent. Henderson, Carroll, Downing all overpriced and not top four players. Suarez is a talented player but will always be trouble and will always miss chunks of the season through suspension 17. A fairly obligatory, but interesting question. Out of Liverpool's current squad, what 2 players would you like to see at Stoke? To make it a bit more interesting, you're not allowed Gerrard! Enrique. A fit Lucas. (And Carroll would perform better for us than for Liverpool.) 18. On the flipside, what 1 player from Stoke are you hoping doesn't make the team sheet on Saturday? Woodgate at right back simply because he is not a right back. 19. What kind of game are you expecting? Boring, frustrating defeat. 20. Finally, your score prediction? 2-0 Liverpool. 1. To begin with, you currently sit in 8th place in the league and have had what appears to be an enjoyable European campaign too bar a couple of results. What've you made of your season so far? Have you relished being back in Europe after a long absence? Europe has been a boost for the club -theres a bit more respect for what we are about 2. Do you think the European excursions have had an effect on your league performances and results? As most of our games immediately after the Europa League ones have been AWAY then this isn't such an issue 3. What are your aspirations for the second half of the season and where do you want to finish, realistically? Do you feel you're currently on target for the goals you set yourselves at the beginning of the season? Definitely a top 10 finish so far so good 4. What's the best thing about being a Stoke fan, and what's the worst? Most supporters stand by our team through thick and thin, worst been branded as supporters of a boring style of play 5. Forgive me if I'm wrong. Didn't Pulis say a few years ago that once Stoke were established in the Premier League that he would change your style of play from what we've grown to associate with you? Do you feel the need to change, would you like to see something different or do you think it's a case of go with what works? I think that we have made some changes - the more direct route does make good use of our assets but we now have players who can pas the ball around. Always room for improvement 6. Do you think Pulis is in it for the long haul and can keep you moving forward as you have done every season so far? Hope so 7. One of our former players joined you in the summer and he's one I've always rated and was a bit gutted we sold him in the first place, to be honest. What have you made of Peter Crouch so far and what impact has he had for you? What sets him apart from the other target men we've seen operate up front for you in recent seasons? Took a while for his to fit into the team and the team took a while to make the most of him. His performance against Spurs was excellent - he showed some skill and pace on the ball as well as some excellent work in both penalty areas 8. This month's transfer window is open. Do you think you'll strengthen? What areas do you feel you need to improve in and what sort of players would you like to see come in? I think there will be a couple of additions and maybe we will also offload a few. With an expanding squad it may be of benefit to have a couple of players out on loan so that they get more games 9. Your home support since you've been in the Premier League has been brilliant and it's widely acknowledged among the footballing world as being one of the best in the country. We've had a bit of a decline in our home support over the past few years vocally. What's your secret? Not sure but its great to be in the crowd each matchday 10a. Probably yes. The incident with Suarez has been a bit one sided as I guess some comments were made by Evra in their conversation. The decision for Liverpool players to wear the t shirts in support of him was a mistake in my opinion. The club should have said straightway that racism or any other form of abuse is never acceptable, Suarez was innocent until proved guilty but they would support him throughout. There are also few Asian footballers in out leagues despite the number of communities in our country. Sadly, I'm not sure how much respect they would receive (I'd like to note here, I am on the forum posting this questionnaire for friendly banter and do not want to be subject to abuse I have received elsewhere. No I didnt 11. Onto the game then. We finally proved we could do it on a cold midweek night in Stoke back in October. How confident are you of getting a result coming to Anfield on Saturday? I would be happy with a draw. Our squad players are fighting for a place in the team and this extra edge to perform well should be good for us in this game 12. What players do you see as your dangermen? At the front, Crouch, Walters (especially as he's an Evertonian), Pennant (I hope he plays) and of course Huth and Shawcross 13. What players of ours are you worried about? All of them IF they ARE ALLOWED play to their potential 14. What kind of approach do you think you'll adopt at Anfield? Do you think you play in a different way when you play away from home? We certainly have to try play a different way when we come to Stoke thanks to the more narrow pitch, for example. Probably not too adventurous to start with to establish our formation - this hasn't been too settled this season. We will however try to make use of our speed. We really used the width of the pitch very well at Wembley so maybe we can repeat that way of playing 15. What do you make of Liverpool's season so far? Disappointing by your own standards 16. It's been a year to the week at the point of writing this that Kenny Dalglish has been manager at Liverpool again. What are your impressions of the job he's done in the past year? Great start, great expectations. Some honest responses on TV to start with - a little less tactful of late which definitely hasn't enhanced the football clubs reputation 17. A fairly obligatory, but interesting question. Out of Liverpool's current squad, what 2 players would you like to see at Stoke? To make it a bit more interesting, you're not allowed Gerrard! If he wasn't allowed to speak then Suarez is your star man. Also impressed with Bellamy - again he can whinge a bit 18. On the flipside, what 1 player from Stoke are you hoping doesn't make the team sheet on Saturday? Upson 19. What kind of game are you expecting? Some tough tackling, lots of action in each penalty area 20. Finally, your score prediction? 1-1 Hope its a good game and the best team on the day win Thanks a lot. Hi mate, Stoke follower since 1960 - my first Stoke memory is beating you guys 1-0 when you had won the old second division championship in 1961 - gulp!Think it was the last match you played outside the top divison!1. To begin with, you currently sit in 8th place in the league and have had what appears to be an enjoyable European campaign too bar a couple of results. What've you made of your season so far? Have you relished being back in Europe after a long absence? Enjoyed season so far, great being back in Europe - watched Stoke in the 70's in the Inter Cities2. Do you think the European excursions have had an effect on your league performances and results? Definitely, altered training schedules, also most matches after have been away and although different players have featured it's been aard!!!!!!!3. What are your aspirations for the second half of the season and where do you want to finish, realistically? Do you feel you're currently on target for the goals you set yourselves at the beginning of the season? To finish in top half and reach quarter final of Europa. Wembley trip would be good again...4. What's the best thing about being a Stoke fan, and what's the worst? Best thing is defying the pundits time and time again.....Worst is my 150 mile round trip for each home game....5. Forgive me if I'm wrong. Didn't Pulis say a few years ago that once Stoke were established in the Premier League that he would change your style of play from what we've grown to associate with you? Do you feel the need to change, would you like to see something different or do you think it's a case of go with what works? We are evolving but don't always get recognition. Not bothered mind6. Do you think Pulis is in it for the long haul and can keep you moving forward as you have done every season so far? Yes and yes7. One of our former players joined you in the summer and he's one I've always rated and was a bit gutted we sold him in the first place, to be honest. What have you made of Peter Crouch so far and what impact has he had for you? What sets him apart from the other target men we've seen operate up front for you in recent seasons? Better ball control, simple as8. This month's transfer window is open. Do you think you'll strengthen? What areas do you feel you need to improve in and what sort of players would you like to see come in? Creative midfielder, fullback 9. Your home support since you've been in the Premier League has been brilliant and it's widely acknowledged among the footballing world as being one of the best in the country. We've had a bit of a decline in our home support over the past few years vocally. What's your secret? We care and spent so long in the doldrums we appreciate where we are...10a. [I'd like to note here, I am on the forum posting this questionnaire for friendly banter and do not want to be subject to abuse I have received elsewhere. It is a sensitive subject and if you are being kind enough to answer the questions, I would prefer a sensible, reasoned answer for the next question. If you do not feel you have read into the case enough to answer in a reasoned or educated manner, please skip it and move on to the football. Thanks and much appreciated) color=Blue]Not a big problem but you guys handled the situation so badly. Hands up and an apolgy would have been acceptable T-shirts and paranoia did you no favours( 10b. In regards to the Luis Suarez and Patrice Evra case, did you read the 115 page document released by the FA related to the verdict? If so, what did you make of the findings? Read bits yes. Thought it was very thorough and outcome fair. I don't think Suarez is an out an out racist but he was naive and foolish11. Onto the game then. We finally proved we could do it on a cold midweek night in Stoke back in October. How confident are you of getting a result coming to Anfield on Saturday? Never confident at Anfield, can never remember winning there in my entire life. We worked hard for a lucky point in 2008....won the singing mind....overdue a flukey 2-1 win.....12. What players do you see as your dangermen? The ones in red shirts13. What players of ours are you worried about? See answer 1214. What kind of approach do you think you'll adopt at Anfield? Do you think you play in a different way when you play away from home? We certainly have to try play a different way when we come to Stoke thanks to the more narrow pitch, for example. Lol. Park the bus and pray.15. What do you make of Liverpool's season so far? Very in and out. You seem to flatter to deceive. Carroll looks a poor buy for you....we'd have him as back-up mind , would suit us1 16. It's been a year to the week at the point of writing this that Kenny Dalglish has been manager at Liverpool again. What are your impressions of the job he's done in the past year? Very average. He's not your messiah. Spent a lot for not much improvement1 17. A fairly obligatory, but interesting question. Out of Liverpool's current squad, what 2 players would you like to see at Stoke? To make it a bit more interesting, you're not allowed Gerrard! Carroll and your full back from Newcastle whose name escapes me (it's an age thing)18. On the flipside, what 1 player from Stoke are you hoping doesn't make the team sheet on Saturday? Shotton - done well to date but I think you'd do him19. What kind of game are you expecting? Tight. Your home form to date has not been good. Mind you, youhaven't played us yet20. Finally, your score prediction? 2-1 to the mighty Potters to make up for 50 years of hurt at Anfield...apart form those 3 draws I attended......All the best!Read more: oatcakefanzine.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=Potters&action=display&thread=182945#ixzz1j4OeXOCB

1. To begin with, you currently sit in 8th place in the league and have had what appears to be an enjoyable European campaign too bar a couple of results. What've you made of your season so far? Have you relished being back in Europe after a long absence?
Still being in the Premiership at all. Not that we don't deserve it, it's just that a few years ago I really never thought it would happen.
2. Do you think the European excursions have had an effect on your league performances and results?
Yes. We lost all but one match following away legs in Europe.
3. What are your aspirations for the second half of the season and where do you want to finish, realistically? Do you feel you're currently on target for the goals you set yourselves at the beginning of the season?
Top half and some good cup memories
4. What's the best thing about being a Stoke fan, and what's the worst?
To paraphrase Roy Hattersley, any idiot can support ArsenManChelLiverSpurs, it takes a real supporter to follow Stoke. In that sense, best is knowing we are a 'real' team and we are living the dream. Worst is suspecting that with a couple of twists of ill-fate, it could all end just as quickly.
5. Forgive me if I'm wrong. Didn't Pulis say a few years ago that once Stoke were established in the Premier League that he would change your style of play from what we've grown to associate with you? Do you feel the need to change, would you like to see something different or do you think it's a case of go with what works?
No I don't think he said that. I think a lot of us attributed that sentiment to him. We do the evolution thing and progress slowly. Most promoted clubs of our size try the revolution thing and implode quickly. I'm happy with our way of doing things.
6. Do you think Pulis is in it for the long haul and can keep you moving forward as you have done every season so far?
Yes and yes but I doubt we will ever be top four
7. One of our former players joined you in the summer and he's one I've always rated and was a bit gutted we sold him in the first place, to be honest. What have you made of Peter Crouch so far and what impact has he had for you? What sets him apart from the other target men we've seen operate up front for you in recent seasons?
He's excellent 'That little bit of class that you need' as Pulis has put it. As much for the teamwork as for his goals
8. This month's transfer window is open. Do you think you'll strengthen? What areas do you feel you need to improve in and what sort of players would you like to see come in?
We need a left back, a creative midfielder and a winger. We'll probably buy a centre back. But yes, I believe we will make a signing, we always have done in January
9. Your home support since you've been in the Premier League has been brilliant and it's widely acknowledged among the footballing world as being one of the best in the country. We've had a bit of a decline in our home support over the past few years vocally. What's your secret?
Can't tell you it's a secret
Football is a refreshing hub of cruel and cutting humour. It may not be right but it's there. I doubt Wenger has ever fiddled with small boys, but that's what other teams' fans accuse him of. And I doubt that most Liverpool fans are racists, but the damage is now done. Welcome to Klanfield, home of the Ku Klux Kop - it's not right but you're stuck with it.
10b. In regards to the Luis Suarez and Patrice Evra case, did you read the 115 page document released by the FA related to the verdict? If so, what did you make of the findings?
No, but from all that I heard, 8 games is not unreasonable. It's not just him and his language; if he gets away with it, it legitimises anyone from anywhere doing the same
11. Onto the game then. We finally proved we could do it on a cold midweek night in Stoke back in October. How confident are you of getting a result coming to Anfield on Saturday?
I think we will win. All the right players are rested, and some of yours are missing
12. What players do you see as your dangermen?
Walters and Crouch. Delap is playing well this season as well
13. What players of ours are you worried about?
Carroll usually does well against us and I think Maxi Rodriguez is good. Unfortunately Gerrard also seems to have hit the ground at full tilt after his lay-off
14. What kind of approach do you think you'll adopt at Anfield? Do you think you play in a different way when you play away from home? We certainly have to try play a different way when we come to Stoke thanks to the more narrow pitch, for example.
Two lines of 6' 6" defenders. Wing play on the break, forcing throws and and dead ball opportunities
15. What do you make of Liverpool's season so far?
Lot of money, not entirely convinced it's been worth it
16. It's been a year to the week at the point of writing this that Kenny Dalglish has been manager at Liverpool again. What are your impressions of the job he's done in the past year?
As above, Lot of money, not entirely convinced it's been worth it
17. A fairly obligatory, but interesting question. Out of Liverpool's current squad, what 2 players would you like to see at Stoke? To make it a bit more interesting, you're not allowed Gerrard!
Maxi and Suarez
18. On the flipside, what 1 player from Stoke are you hoping doesn't make the team sheet on Saturday?
Woodgate is finding it difficult, but he gets played out of position, generally I don't mind, whatever Pulis puts out is fine.
19. What kind of game are you expecting?
Good old fashioned competitive scrap with some excitement thrown in.
20. Finally, your score prediction?
Liverpool 1- 2 Stoke
Thanks a lot. As I said, I would really appreciate your replies!
1. To begin with, you currently sit in 8th place in the league and have had what appears to be an enjoyable European campaign too bar a couple of results. What've you made of your season so far? Have you relished being back in Europe after a long absence? Contrary to opinion of the big clubs and the media who rubbish the competition its living the dream for clubs like Stoke. Away to Valencia will be amazing and the Stoke support will be impressive. Shame our exploits will now be overshadowed by the Manc clubs involvement.
2. Do you think the European excursions have had an effect on your league performances and results?
It seems they did initially. But credit the players and manager turning that around. A couple of away defeats in my view were worth it as a cost of progressing in europe
3. What are your aspirations for the second half of the season and where do you want to finish, realistically? Do you feel you're currently on target for the goals you set yourselves at the beginning of the season?
Its unlikely we will ever break into the top 6. That seems sewn up for years to come. But to be best of the rest would be an amazing achievement in such a short space of time. Think 7th will be tough but top ten and another cup final would be fantastic. Beat Valencia and we could go close in the Europa
4. What's the best thing about being a Stoke fan, and what's the worst?
The best thing is being part of a 'family'club without many 'tourists'. Worst is the media criticism although we have got used to it
5. Forgive me if I'm wrong. Didn't Pulis say a few years ago that once Stoke were established in the Premier League that he would change your style of play from what we've grown to associate with you? Do you feel the need to change, would you like to see something different or do you think it's a case of go with what works?
I was brought up watching Hudson and Greenhoff so thats the brand of football I like to watch, they were sublime players. But the manager has adopted his style and fine tuned it to be a winning style. As long as we are winning who cares? We are trying to bring in technically better players and that helps others improve
6. Do you think Pulis is in it for the long haul and can keep you moving forward as you have done every season so far?
Yes he will be here for some time as long as we progress as a club. It would be an interesting decision for the chairman if we suddenly collapse and look like relegation material.
7. One of our former players joined you in the summer and he's one I've always rated and was a bit gutted we sold him in the first place, to be honest. What have you made of Peter Crouch so far and what impact has he had for you? What sets him apart from the other target men we've seen operate up front for you in recent seasons? I have always liked Crouch and watched him at Liverpool where he was very popular. Its easy to see why he has a fabulous touch and an eye for goal. Together with his skill he plays with a smile on his face and appears to love the Stoke ethos. Top man Liverpool's loss is Stoke's gain.
8. This month's transfer window is open. Do you think you'll strengthen? What areas do you feel you need to improve in and what sort of players would you like to see come in?
I personally dont think we will see any significant purchases. We need fullbacks and cover out wide. But we have been saying this for 2 years.
9. Your home support since you've been in the Premier League has been brilliant and it's widely acknowledged among the footballing world as being one of the best in the country. We've had a bit of a decline in our home support over the past few years vocally. What's your secret?
As others have said. The media criticism and our prediction by many to 'do a derby' galvanised us a group with a common goal to shove their myopic remarks down their throats. Every dig from the media and the likes of Wenger made us stronger. One game stands out which was Man City at home. The fans were genuinely the 12th man. The support seems to have dipped a little this season, we need some Wenger nonsense to fire us up again.
Sadly you hear racist comments at most stadia and its not justconfined to football. Any. albeit abtract support of racism by clubs or players is a huge mistake. The Suarez T shirts at Liverpool was misguided. Liverpool should be above that sort of nonsense.
10b. In regards to the Luis Suarez and Patrice Evra case, did you read the 115 page document released by the FA related to the verdict? If so, what did you make of the findings? Got it spot on hence no appeal
11. Onto the game then. We finally proved we could do it on a cold midweek night in Stoke back in October. How confident are you of getting a result coming to Anfield on Saturday?
Little chance
12. What players do you see as your dangermen? Crouchy could score or Huth from a set piece
13. What players of ours are you worried about? Thankfully no Suarez. But Gerrard is getting fitter
14. What kind of approach do you think you'll adopt at Anfield? Do you think you play in a different way when you play away from home? We certainly have to try play a different way when we come to Stoke thanks to the more narrow pitch, for example. We will be defensive and look to counter attack or score from set pieces. Sadly we haven't been defending that well this season due to too many changes at the back.Clean sheets are at a premium
15. What do you make of Liverpool's season so far? Surprisingly vulnerable at home and still a couple of players away from top 4. Thins its Europa league for you guys next season
16. It's been a year to the week at the point of writing this that Kenny Dalglish has been manager at Liverpool again. What are your impressions of the job he's done in the past year? Not surprisingly Kenny has done a fabulous job. He is a top manager. Perhaps his unswerving support of his top striker has done him no favours
17. A fairly obligatory, but interesting question. Out of Liverpool's current squad, what 2 players would you like to see at Stoke? To make it a bit more interesting, you're not allowed Gerrard! Maybe Carroll, he would enjoy the service he would get. Both fullbacks would be great too and chuck in Lucas please.
18. On the flipside, what 1 player from Stoke are you hoping doesn't make the team sheet on Saturday? Woodgate at fullback...liverpool have too much pace for him. But I suspect he will start
19. What kind of game are you expecting? One way traffic played in the Stoke half. Early goal for Liverpool will lead to more. Liverpool not great at defending set pieces so we could nick a goal
20. Finally, your score prediction?
Liverpool 3 Stoke 1
Where can we get a copy of the published findings of your Questionnaire?

Hi guys, Liverpool fan here (be gentle...). 1. To begin with, you currently sit in 8th place in the league and have had what appears to be an enjoyable European campaign too bar a couple of results. What've you made of your season so far? Have you relished being back in Europe after a long absence? Happy with the season so far, things seem to be going our way so far, touch wood. Predict a top 8 finish and to go out the Europa League soon but hopefully progress through the FA Cup again!2. Do you think the European excursions have had an effect on your league performances and results? Definitely, it's obvious that a european game affects our next league game but hopefully that's behind us now after we beat Spurs3. What are your aspirations for the second half of the season and where do you want to finish, realistically? Do you feel you're currently on target for the goals you set yourselves at the beginning of the season? I wanted a half decent cup run and a top 12 finish, so far that's gone well, in the knockout stages of Europa League and in the 4th round of the FA Cup with a good draw4. What's the best thing about being a Stoke fan, and what's the worst? The passion of the fans, manager and players is the best thing, the worst is our negativity away from home5. Forgive me if I'm wrong. Didn't Pulis say a few years ago that once Stoke were established in the Premier League that he would change your style of play from what we've grown to associate with you? Do you feel the need to change, would you like to see something different or do you think it's a case of go with what works? I think you're wrong? As the old saying goes don't fix it if it ain't broke and our style of play has continued to work and we have only improved each season in my opinion6. Do you think Pulis is in it for the long haul and can keep you moving forward as you have done every season so far? I hope he is and I believe he will be here for a few good years to come, I think he can continue with progress maybe getting into the top 7/8 teams in the league eventually 7. One of our former players joined you in the summer and he's one I've always rated and was a bit gutted we sold him in the first place, to be honest. What have you made of Peter Crouch so far and what impact has he had for you? What sets him apart from the other target men we've seen operate up front for you in recent seasons? I think Crouch is a class player and a perfect fit for Stoke, he's had a pretty average start to his Stoke career but some players form haven't been the best this season and our central midfield doesn't do enough for the forwards, Etherington and Palacios seem to be coming into their own now this season and I think this will help Crouch for the 2nd half of the season. I see Crouch getting between 5-10 more goals.8. This month's transfer window is open. Do you think you'll strengthen? What areas do you feel you need to improve in and what sort of players would you like to see come in? I think we need to buy but I have a feeling we will have a poor window and that we will feel the fatigue in the later months of the season if we don't get some new players in9. Your home support since you've been in the Premier League has been brilliant and it's widely acknowledged among the footballing world as being one of the best in the country. We've had a bit of a decline in our home support over the past few years vocally. What's your secret? Passion10a. Racism will never leave football it has certainly died down in recent years and isn't as bad as it has been but you can't really stop it there's always that small minority who are living in the dark ages (no pun intended)(I'd like to note here, I am on the forum posting this questionnaire for friendly banter and do not want to be subject to abuse I have received elsewhere. I haven't read it personally but I believe Evra spoke the truth, I see Suarez as scum, racial abuse, biting players, cheating (handball against Ghana, diving etc..), spat on an African at the world cup, he has a track record and he's disgusting.11. Onto the game then. We finally proved we could do it on a cold midweek night in Stoke back in October. How confident are you of getting a result coming to Anfield on Saturday? Hopefully 0-0 for me but can see Liverpool kick starting there year on Saturday and it being a bit of a rout12. What players do you see as your dangermen? Walters, Etherington & Crouch 13. What players of ours are you worried about? Gerrard 14. What kind of approach do you think you'll adopt at Anfield? Do you think you play in a different way when you play away from home? We certainly have to try play a different way when we come to Stoke thanks to the more narrow pitch, for example. Sit back play Diao and wait to be beaten15. What do you make of Liverpool's season so far? Fairly average, drop too many points at home (Sunderland, Norwich etc) can't see you doing any better than 6th this season16. It's been a year to the week at the point of writing this that Kenny Dalglish has been manager at Liverpool again. What are your impressions of the job he's done in the past year? He has done a good job in my opinion only time will tell if he's the right man17. A fairly obligatory, but interesting question. Out of Liverpool's current squad, what 2 players would you like to see at Stoke? To make it a bit more interesting, you're not allowed Gerrard! Dirk Kuyt and Lucas, both energetic, non stop action players, both Stoke type players18. On the flipside, what 1 player from Stoke are you hoping doesn't make the team sheet on Saturday? Jones 19. What kind of game are you expecting? A pretty boring game hoping to snatch a point and clean sheet20. Finally, your score prediction? A 0-0 would do but I fear a Liverpool winAll the best for the rest of the season after Saturday (unless we get you in the cup) hope you beat United at the end of the month also

1. To begin with, you currently sit in 8th place in the league and have had what appears to be an enjoyable European campaign too bar a couple of results. What've you made of your season so far? Have you relished being back in Europe after a long absence?
Sadly, I'm not old enough to have experienced the European adventures of yester-year but I feel completely honored to be able to witness my club in such a competition in this era of the astronomical prices in football nowadays. As for our season, bar a few disappointing results, it's been considerably good with all things considered.
2. Do you think the European excursions have had an effect on your league performances and results?
Somewhat, but nowhere near as much as I thought at the beginning of the season.
3. What are your aspirations for the second half of the season and where do you want to finish, realistically? Do you feel you're currently on target for the goals you set yourselves at the beginning of the season?
Like I alluded to earlier, we're going well. I expect us, with the squad we've got, to finish in the top half this year and maybe go on a decent cup run again. What cup exactly? Well I don't know. Both hopefully!
4. What's the best thing about being a Stoke fan, and what's the worst?
It's a bit of a double edged sword for me personally. I never even expected Stoke to get into the Premier League, nevermind flourish like we have over the past 3 and a half years. The best thing about being a Stoke fan is therefore being where we are. The worst thing however, is with the squad we've got, we often tend to be disappointing away from home and it can be a chore to watch at times.
5. Forgive me if I'm wrong. Didn't Pulis say a few years ago that once Stoke were established in the Premier League that he would change your style of play from what we've grown to associate with you? Do you feel the need to change, would you like to see something different or do you think it's a case of go with what works?
As every single football fan across the world, I also would love to see my team playing incredibly attractive football. We've certainly improved! A lot of the negativity surrounding our style is down to the media portraying us as the villain. There's always got to be one hasn't there?
6. Do you think Pulis is in it for the long haul and can keep you moving forward as you have done every season so far?
Certainly. However, I'm not sure any manager can keep us moving forward considering the money in football nowadays. We're closing in on the peak that we're realistically able to achieve, which is fantastic nevertheless.
7. One of our former players joined you in the summer and he's one I've always rated and was a bit gutted we sold him in the first place, to be honest. What have you made of Peter Crouch so far and what impact has he had for you? What sets him apart from the other target men we've seen operate up front for you in recent seasons?
Although it took him a bit of time to adjust to our style of football, I think it's easy to say that Peter has been a rousing success here at Stoke. His touch, footballing brain and ability to finish really does put him head and shoulders (badum tshhhh) above our current crop of target men. If he carries on his form, we might be seeing him on a plane with some other England internationals come the summer.
8. This month's transfer window is open. Do you think you'll strengthen? What areas do you feel you need to improve in and what sort of players would you like to see come in?
I think we may get one or two in and lose a few of the deadwood so to speak. I can't see us being hugely busy or anything, just a few additions to provide cover or maybe challenge for a first team place over the 2nd half of the season. Some cover on the wings and a fullback would do me.
9. Your home support since you've been in the Premier League has been brilliant and it's widely acknowledged among the footballing world as being one of the best in the country. We've had a bit of a decline in our home support over the past few years vocally. What's your secret?
It's hard to say really. There are a few major factors that you have to consider. Being criminalized by the media for our style of play has created an "Us against the world" kind of attitude among the fans. The fact that we're a relativity small city and our fan base is usually pretty local to the area also helps, I guess.
No, but hear me out. Racism is a horrible act in all forms of life, but I feel like it's been glorified by the media as something which ruins football. And it is. But racism isn't just confined to football and other sports, it goes on at schools, work places and in the general public domain. I'd of hoped, due to the incidents and such, it would help cancel out racism and raise awareness to such acts all around the world, but I feel like the media are giving the impression that these cases of racism are more important because they've happened on such a grand stage. Basically, what I'm trying to say is that one case of racism is no more important than another.
10b. In regards to the Luis Suarez and Patrice Evra case, did you read the 115 page document released by the FA related to the verdict? If so, what did you make of the findings?
Nope.
11. Onto the game then. We finally proved we could do it on a cold midweek night in Stoke back in October. How confident are you of getting a result coming to Anfield on Saturday?
Not very in all honesty. With Suarez out, we may be able to come away with a bore draw but there's no doubting a team like Liverpool's quality. We'll have to play very well to get anything.
12. What players do you see as your dangermen?
Crouch certainly. Huth is always dangerous from set pieces and if our wingers are on form, we may be able to get that all important goal.
13. What players of ours are you worried about?
Carroll. People slate him no end, but I still really rate the guy. He's a danger in the air, but he's also got onehellaova shot on him. Gerrard also, if he's fit. Not much has to be said about him.
14. What kind of approach do you think you'll adopt at Anfield? Do you think you play in a different way when you play away from home? We certainly have to try play a different way when we come to Stoke thanks to the more narrow pitch, for example.
As for the majority of games away from home, we'll try to keep a clean sheet first and foremost. Not exactly a bad thing if it works, mind!
15. What do you make of Liverpool's season so far?
Disappointing if I'm honest. I watch a lot of football and have seen a lot of brilliant away displays from Liverpool this season. But you guys can't seem to do it at home, for one reason or another, against the so called "lesser teams". Hopefully you continue in that fashion come the weekend eh?
16. It's been a year to the week at the point of writing this that Kenny Dalglish has been manager at Liverpool again. What are your impressions of the job he's done in the past year?
I think he's done well. Not brilliant, but certainly not awful. I think he's been a bit of a mixed bag in the transfer market. I mean even though I rate him, 35 mil for Carroll does seem mad. But then he gets Suarez in for 20 or so mil I think? Cracking bit of business.
17. A fairly obligatory, but interesting question. Out of Liverpool's current squad, what 2 players would you like to see at Stoke? To make it a bit more interesting, you're not allowed Gerrard!
Reina and just on footballing ability, Suarez.
18. On the flipside, what 1 player from Stoke are you hoping doesn't make the team sheet on Saturday?
Even though he was decent at Blackburn, I don't want to see Woodgate played. Especially if it's at right back..
19. What kind of game are you expecting?
Not a thriller by any means, but you never know with us.
20. Finally, your score prediction?
I can't exactly predict a Liverpool win, so I'll go for a 1-1.

1. To be honest I think were pretty much on target with expectations this season, nobody outside the Potteries really sits down and looks how good we are on paper as they still believe the media nonsense about being a modern day Wimbledon. With the players we've got I'd say a top half finish is what should be expected. The European adventure has been brilliant, not only for footballing reasons as in my opinion we've played some decent teams off the park but more the fact it's getting us on the map and will hopefully have a knock on effect where a higher calibre of player will be more willing to join us.
2. Without a doubt, playing Thursday's and Sunday's has been a problem. Just have a look at the results after we play in Europe, it's quite literally there in black and white.
3. Realistically a top ten finish in the league, quarter finals of the Europa and a if I'm being greedy maybe a bit of an FA Cup run. Realistic? Not sure
4. Best thing about being a Stoke fan is as there's no glory hunters it's very much a community minded club supported by local people. The worst thing about being a Stoke fan is the way were treated by the police at away games due to our previous reputation for hooliganism.
5. We are gradually evolving and play counter attacking football with two direct wingers, don't believe the long ball hype.
6. Pulis isn't going anywhere, his relationship with the board is superb and being honest he isn't a fashionable enough name for most clubs in this league. And I do believe he'll carry on moving us forward, maybe with change of assistant managers to help influence changes.
7. Crouch is a brilliant footballer, wouldn't really class him as a target man as he's not that physically strong but either way he's a huge upgrade on previous strikers we've had at the club. All part of the evolution
8. This window I think we'll sign a ball playing midfielder and are being linked with the likes of Tim Cahill and Stephen Pienarr etc, realistically though we also need to full backs and a back up winger as well but think they'll arrive in the summer window.
9. Siege mentality, the more the world hates us and want us to fail the louder we get.
10a. I think that racism is more or less gone from the game now, but you'll always get the odd idiot but that goes for society itself not just football.
10b. Didn't read it so can't comment.
11. Not at all to be honest, were awful away from home.
12. Crouch, Etherington and Walters.
13. The majority of your team can be dangerous so it depends who's hitting form.
14. Park the bus in front of goal and hope we get a goal on the break.
15. Very inconsistent, on your day your world beater's and the following game you look awful. I'd say very much work in progress.
16. Fantastic move to bring him back, I thought it'd go wrong for you but hands up I'll admit I was wrong. I think clubs like Liverpool need a managerial figurehead like Man Utd have got Ferguson. There was no charisma in the likes of Houllier, Benitez and Hodgson.
17. Suarez and Agger
18. Toss up between Mama Sidibe and Salif Diao
19. Dire, we really are a different team when we play away from home
20. 3-1 Liverpool

Have you relished being back in Europe after a long absence? I think the position is OK. There is a lot of rubbish talked about the way we play: the first four league games I saw this season - v. Liverpool, Chelsea, Man Utd and Spurs - were as exciting and enjoyable as any football I can remember seeing in England. Europe is nothing to me, personally. I'd rather beat Liverpool or Man Utd than Real Madrid, and I'd rather beat Arsenal than anybody. 2. Do you think the European excursions have had an effect on your league performances and results? Yes. Not so much physical as mental stress. 3. What are your aspirations for the second half of the season and where do you want to finish, realistically? Do you feel you're currently on target for the goals you set yourselves at the beginning of the season? Not to lose any more games 4-0 or 5-0. To make an effort away from home. To see Wilkinson, Shotton and Marshall start in the same Stoke team. 4. What's the best thing about being a Stoke fan, and what's the worst? Best thing ever was to be able to watch the best footballing team in England (on their good days) in the early 1970s. Today, it's being able to beat anybody at the Brit, especially the teams with supporters who believe they're too good to lose to us - Man Utd, Tottenham, Chelsea, (unbelievably, now) Man City, (regrettably) you lot and. of course, loathsome Arsenal... Worst thing is our approach to away games at top-ten clubs. 5. Forgive me if I'm wrong. Didn't Pulis say a few years ago that once Stoke were established in the Premier League that he would change your style of play from what we've grown to associate with you? Do you feel the need to change, would you like to see something different or do you think it's a case of go with what works? We have changed, if you pay attention. We often play now with two wide midfielders - we never did four years ago. Otherwise, I am happy as long as we continue to épater le bourgeois. 6. Do you think Pulis is in it for the long haul and can keep you moving forward as you have done every season so far? Pulis will stay till Uncle Peter retires or passes away. They are a double act. Thereafter, I think he'll go for the Wales job. 7. One of our former players joined you in the summer and he's one I've always rated and was a bit gutted we sold him in the first place, to be honest. What have you made of Peter Crouch so far and what impact has he had for you? What sets him apart from the other target men we've seen operate up front for you in recent seasons? We paid too much (you know the feeling), but he is the real difference this year because he's good for goals, both scoring them and setting them up. He does have a good touch for a big man, but he is above all a reliable goalscorer. You would be two or three places higher with Crouch at no. 9. 8. This month's transfer window is open. Do you think you'll strengthen? What areas do you feel you need to improve in and what sort of players would you like to see come in? We have always bought at this time: if we don't this season (and we don't need to) you can take it that we'll be in big in August. 9. Your home support since you've been in the Premier League has been brilliant and it's widely acknowledged among the footballing world as being one of the best in the country. We've had a bit of a decline in our home support over the past few years vocally. What's your secret? Novelty, and pride in being recognised. And Stoke is my home town and I love it, but the people are unsophisticated, and the club does not attract many glory-hunters or aspiring intellectuals, so we have a high proportion of shouty blokes. (I have sat on the Kop in the last two seasons, next to a full professor at Liverpool University and two senior academics from Leicester.) Also, no-one likes us, which is a great motivator. Yes. And NO-ONE is free of it. Thanks and much appreciated) 10b. In regards to the Luis Suarez and Patrice Evra case, did you read the 115 page document released by the FA related to the verdict? If so, what did you make of the findings? No, of course not! Like most Stoke fans, I think Suarez is the best player I've seen at the Brit this season (esp. the League Cup game), and a pretty low human being. 11. Onto the game then. We finally proved we could do it on a cold midweek night in Stoke back in October. How confident are you of getting a result coming to Anfield on Saturday? We will get beat, as always. I am not going this year, I am sick of the sight of us not even trying - last season we started with Salif Diao! 12. What players do you see as your dangermen? Best player is Crouch. Etherington next. If anyone scores on Saturday it'll be Huth. 13. What players of ours are you worried about? Gerard is fit again, but I have thought for years that Bellamy is one of the, if not the very, best British player. 14. What kind of approach do you think you'll adopt at Anfield? Do you think you play in a different way when you play away from home? We certainly have to try play a different way when we come to Stoke thanks to the more narrow pitch, for example. One up front. then five strivers, then four big guys, then a good goalie (we've got two). Stoke's pitch, by the way, is wider and longer than Highbury was... 15. What do you make of Liverpool's season so far? I think the win against Man City was God's way of telling you how to play... 16. It's been a year to the week at the point of writing this that Kenny Dalglish has been manager at Liverpool again. What are your impressions of the job he's done in the past year? My Mastermind Topic! I have watched Kenny since we were both teenagers at Celtic Park - he on the field, me in the Jungle. I don't think he is a very good coach or much of a man-manager, but he is a good footballer and a smart guy, and he was such a great player that serious footballers who know British football will always perform for him. He's at his best with mature players, which is why he can make Bellamy play and can't do a thing with Carroll. To thrive, you/he should be recruiting serious guys, perhaps in their late 20s or early 30s who can do it, but maybe have underachieved a bit. Scott Parker was a big miss for you, Darren Bent even more so. Petrov from Aston Villa. And proper footballers like Shawcross (hands off!), and Fletcher from Wolves. The best Liverpool sides were a bit diesel-powered, that's what you need. Not a club for fancy dans or foreigners. 17. A fairly obligatory, but interesting question. Out of Liverpool's current squad, what 2 players would you like to see at Stoke? To make it a bit more interesting, you're not allowed Gerrard! Bellamy. Kuyt as cover for Super Jon. We need a full back really, but you ain't got one. 18. On the flipside, what 1 player from Stoke are you hoping doesn't make the team sheet on Saturday? Diao - lovely guy, but his presence is a clear signal that we aren't bothered. 19. What kind of game are you expecting? Dull defeat 20. Finally, your score prediction? 0-3 Read more: oatcakefanzine.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=Potters&action=display&thread=182945#ixzz1jI08p132
