Exactly - once again an entire city is tarred with the same brush by the same type of hateful individual from S-o-T. You got to laugh... That's the irony of some of the comments on here. Although I think L'pool as a club handled the Suarez episode terribly, there's absolutely no reason to tar all L'pool supporters with the same brush as the trog who shouted racist abuse at this lad. I can imagine how I'd feel if some trog in our stands did the same thing and then we were all branded racists. Stereotyping is a vile habit. OS. Except our club have not gone out of their way to support a racist publicly.

if it had been a Stoke supporter or if a Stoke player had done the same as Suarez we would be hounded out of football, we get more grief than any other club for far less.

What does one expect when Liverpool send out the message that they back the actions of Suarez?...
That supporter must also think its ok...
Suppose Liverpool will also ban the supporter for 8 matches and in all competitions too.

I can't quite believe that the Liverpool fans launched into the Suarez chant as that was kicking off. Liverpool seem to have lost their minds at the moment.

Is it realistic to think Cameron could step in, March? What could he do? Are there any precedents?

Is it realistic to think Cameron could step in, March? What could he do? Are there any precedents? Not since The 1920's. He could do all sorts of things, but football is one of this country's most prestigious exports and as PM he is ultimately responsible for the country's well-being: in particular its economy.

I think that it is far more likely that the American owners will intervene before Cameron. Liverpool FC is one of the strongest brands in world football and if they see their brand (and therefore their investment) being damaged then they will have to intervene. It will also be interesting to see if adidas or standard chartered have any issues as their main sponsors.
When this sort of thing happens in the Russian leagues there are few repercussions as noone really notices. It's a bit different when you're in the "best league in the world" though...

Difficult to see what punishment Government could enforce though. It's not as if Cameron could mete out a Premier League points deduction and expulsion from the FA Cup for Liverpool, and lifetime ban for Dalglish, which would be the most appropriate thing as that would hurt the club and its vile players, manager and fans the most.
The FA deserves a lot of blame for turning a blind eye to Dalglish's disgraceful behaviour and allowing this to escalate. I've no faith in them doing the right thing.

Racism is wrong, just like any form of abuse is wrong... but surely (and I'm not black) it's just something you can shrug off :S ... I don't really understand crying over it?

Cameron is responsible for all that happens in this country - as the saying says; "the buck stops with him". This is an olympic year and football is one of this country's most prestigious exports. A racist Liverpool FC goes well beyond just the football authorities. As I said the other day, most decisions regarding the club will be made in the States, but there is a time lag before anything happens. I expect the owner will act, but having seen that video of hundreds (if not thousands) of people in the Kop abusing that lad, this is far more than an issue for the local police.

Paul, when you look at the video, I would estimate there were 100's if not 1000's shouting something similar.

The bucks stops with him, yes, but I don't see how he could interfere with things like points deductions (though I wish he could).
The most I could see Cameron doing would be making them play games behind closed doors, which wouldn't be a strong enough punishment for me. Obviously I'm guessing though.

What the fuck were they thinking?
I guess that they weren't?
It is a sad, sorry but not unexpected state of affairs. I said on a post about Terry some time ago that this sort of thing would happen and was told that I was being stupid and over-reacting. Seemingly not!
I wonder if the FA will make them play a game/games behind closed doors. It will be interesting to see how they react given the FA's criticism of the lack of severity FIFA handed out as punishment to those countries whose supporters racially abused England players.
Let's see how brave they are when it comes to punishing one of their most prominent clubs!

What did Millwall do to be forced to play a game behind closed doors against us a few seasons ago? Who enforced the ban? The FA or Football League or police?
