What's the deal with GNW always strolling off to the changing rooms whenever he's subbed? Is it a strop thing or is it some special arrangement he has with TP so he doesn't have to sit on the bench? This always causes some consternation in our corner of the Sent Stand, but I wonder if there's a reason?

I'd imagine it is to do with his arthritis so he doesn't have sit around in the cold to stop his joints seizing up.
Thats what i reckon anyhow. . .

It is his arthritis. After every game, whether he is subbed or not, he needs physio in the warmth of the treatment room. If he doesn't get it he would be unlikely to be fit for the next training session.
The bloke is a marvel to have played as many times as he has done this season. His body language does not mean he doesn't care just that he is in almost permanent pain.
The man's a star and I wish more Stokies realised what he has to go through to play as much and as well as he does.

I assume it's something to do with going for treatment and a bit of a rest...must be a bloody awful affliction he has...it's a bit of an achievement that he's playin' professional footie at such a high level.

Thanks for clearing that up chaps. Arthritis is indeed a terrible affliction - and it's why I spend virtually every other Sat helping the mrs at her mum's in Cumbria. I shall relay the info to the block 31 posse on Tuesday

Thats a very good point that through my arrogance, hadn't thought of. I have two family members who suffer from it, one worse than the other and injections every morning are required to ease the pain. I think, bar a dip in form a few weeks ago, he has been a great signing for us. You do have to wonder how much more we are going to see of him though don't you? Jon

Yes, she's certainly worth a bit of pain! ;D Wonder if she does a bit on the side for fans - I feel bit of "stiffness" coming on which might render me a suitable case for treatment on Tuesday night!

even if he had to get physio he doesn't need to look like he's sulking every time he's subbed!

Ange, thats harsh, unless you really know how Arthiritis affects people then you wouldnt understand, My wife takes 2-3 days to recover from just sitting at the Brit for a game purely because of this condition. cervical spondylosis doesnt help either, neither does the degenerative bone disease she has, but its the arthitis that really gets into the bones, especially when its cold. We went to the south of france last year for 2 weeks and she could move a lot easier. People might (and do say) that he could applaud the fans as he goes, In his defence that is probably the last thing on his mind when he is in agony.
Give the bloke a break

you can read it here: www.hashmi.com/arthiritis.htmlARTHIRITIS Arthritis is inflammation of the joints. In many part of the world the disease is called rheumatism. It is named after the town where it first appeared. To the frustration of modern medical science the disease remains a mystery even today. Not a simple mystery either ‘arthritis’ is not just one disease. The word means ‘inflammation of the joints ‘, and it includes it its painful embrace over 100 distance disease forms. Arthritis may be mild swelling of a single joint, which yields easily to a month of drug therapy, nutritional therapy or no therapy at all, or it can be a vicious, agonizing condition that inexorably spreads through every joint in the body. It can be caused by bacteria, by a virus or by a disruption of body chemistry or by too much stress. The two most common forms of arthritis osteoarthritis & rheumatoid arthritis are real mysteries of modern medicine or allopathy. And no one knows why osteoarthritis a wearing away of cartilage so common that doctors call it part of the normal aging process, remains a mere nuisance for some people but becomes crippler for others. Also unknown is why rheumatoid arthritis follows such an erratic course. It can appear, lie quietly for a number of years & then flare up. It can spread progressively & cause complete disability. Arthritis in other words, can be harsh, unpredictable & frustrating disease. . And a disease against which modern medical science has provided highly questionable medicines; powerful drugs that, in the works of one text book of medicine can cause greater illness than the underlying disease. An arthritis patient is in pain all the time and this affects his/ her personality. They are often tense & stiff. They have disturbed sleep & are often irritable and not in physical or mental state to cope with demands & stresses of life. Every family member has to adjust to the situation created by the presence of an arthritic member. There are over the hundred different types of arthritis some with devastating effects on your future health, careful diagnosis as soon as symptoms are noticed is important. Early detection & prompt treatment can help relieve pain & prevent later complications. Unani herbal medicines are the only cure to arthritis available today. According to the U.S. national arthritis foundation, there are four major warning signs: Persistent pain & stiffness on arising Pain, tenderness or swelling in one or more joints Recurrence of these symptoms, especially when they involve more than one joint Recurrent or persistent pain & stiffness in the neck lower back, knees & other joints. Females are more likely to have arthritis than males. Scientist can not explain why this happen, but they do know that, of the 31 million adults & children in the states who have some form of arthritis, more than 20 million are women. About 2,50,000 children have juvenile rheumatoid arthritis & of those, more girls than boys are affected. Some women develop arthritis in their early 20’s or at a younger age. Rheumatoid arthritis is the most serious type. If left untreated, it can lead to permanent joint deformities, disability and damage to the body’s vital organs. Arthritis is an expensive disease and in U.S.A it is the nations number one crippling disease. Arthritis takes its toll in reduced quality of life for many families and for many individuals. For business & industry it is a costly factor due to absenteeism, loss of productively. Modern medicine is unable to cure arthritis and only treating with painkillers & steroids. But age old unani system, with its thousands years of existence, enlargement & experience comes out with potential cure & treatment course for all forms of arthritis for old & young alike. And it is wrong to believe that arthritis is not a serious disease. It is dangerous to believe that self diagnosis and self treatment work for arthritis It is not true that arthritis is only old people disease. So act now, if any person have any symptoms of arthritis it is better to contact unani herbalist than an allopathic doctor

Its a shame for a player with so much takent. I wish people who bemoan him (and there are those who still do) would be more considerate. His runs draw markers off Ade and he has a tremendous ability to hold up possesion in the final third, allowing us to build up our attacks

a mate of a mate of mine is in the know, but hasn't been asked by that mate of mine yet.
as far as I'm concerned, the guy is a legend all ready, I've known about the arthritus from day 1 ....

Those who critisize him for not clapping the crowd on his way off the pitch should leave the lad alone. Does it really matter as long as he's doing the biz on the pitch? No it doesn't! Me & the kids had a chat with Gifton outside the ground last week & he's a really nice bloke.
