Oh come on mate, it's a message board for Stoke City discussion. Don't you think there be a few moans and groans in the pubs tomorrow at the prospect of Palacios not figuring again? What's the difference between that and people moaning on here? I'll moan if I want to!! I don't believe it's 'Stoke bashing' to be asking serious questions about a £6 million player not being 'match fit' and in the manager's view, unable to play after months and months at the club. Before the last game, Kemp made the lame excuse that due to the added European games they 'hadn't had time to work on him properly'. How does this work then, if you have a midweek match players not involved stop training?? Why don't the club come out and give a full and proper explanation for Palacios's continued absence instead of these airy-fairy, throw away, comments that satisfy no one except whatever inept Radio Stoke reporter is asking the questions at the time! Is there more to this than meets the eye, I wonder?? Totally agree with this.

I think it's understandable to show a bit of frustration. We've spent big on a position we have struggled in for a long time and 3 months down the line the club are feeding us bullshit as to why he isn't playing still. And you have to assume its bullshit. Do you really believe the match fitness thing? As has already been mentioned on here, Fuller was out for months and months with a bad one and came straight back into the team. Higgy was out for a while and has found his way back in via a few reserve games. We've also been playing others that are clearly not match fit too. I wish the club would just come out and be honest with us.

It will be interesting to see the starting eleven tomorrow.
I wonder if Pulis is playing a few mind games here?

Especially if you combine it with playing Delap with a stated back injury over Palacios

so he can't play tomorrow but he can play on Thursday ? we've had him 3 months and he is supposedly not fit, the only thing that will make him fit is that if he plays games!

Is it possible his true transfer fee is based on total appearances in the first season and Pulis is holding him out to get an 'automatic' discount?

The only way for him to get match fit is to play matches, he should be starting games, then if he's breathing through his arse after an hour bring someone else on.

If you apply that logic then Woodgate should also have been kept 'in reserve' behind Upson to save a few bob. Can't see it myself, Pulis wouldn't deliberately piss off his old mate 'Arry and Spuds if it potentially jeopardised future business. Even TP isn't that daft...

I don't really get this argument about how can Fuller get back on the pitch quicker than Palacios ... no two players are the same and certainly no two injuries are. Just because Ric's back playing again has got absolutely no bearing whatsoever on the rehibiltation of Palacios. We've seen brief cameos from WP earlier in the season, hey we might not even see Ric again for a few weeks again now - they are two total separate and two completely isolated cases. This doesn't feel like a Tuncay situation to me at all. WP is the perfect Pulis central midfielder ... if TP had the opportunity to build his ideal central midfielder from the ground up, you can bet your bottom dollar he'd end up looking very similar to Wilson Palacios. We're currently getting battered week in, week out, just why wouldn't Pulis select him if he was fit enough?

theres no place for sensible comments on here And what happens after 90 minutes tomorrow if things don't go the way we want them to go? Are people allowed to have an opinion then? what if he does start tomorrow? I know its probably unlikely but isnt it sensible to wait and see what the team news is? It seems like the only comments allowed on here are those bashing Pulis and jumping to conclusions based on one person's comments on twitter

We're not talking about a rehabilitation period for recovering from an injury; we're talking about getting a player up to scratch in match fitness terms. 3 months is more than enough to get a player fit and ready to go.

We're talking about both aren't we? Recuperation from a serious knee injury and having missed pre-season. What's frustrating is that we don't know what's going on - it may well be that WP isn't fit, that his knee injury is more serious than we thought, or that his head isn't right. All possibilities, all worrying, all raising awkward questions and all, imo, more likely than TP just not fancying him or the loony conspiracy theories about him being part of the Crouch deal.

You don't actually know ANY of that though - it's all complete speculation. You don't anything about his original injury, how it's responded to treatment or anything. A return from injury isn't always a completely linear process, for all we know there could have been a period where there wasn't any progress, or even things could have gone backwards for a while. It doesn't make any sense, if he really is good and ready for TP not to pick him, but people would prefer to start building conspiracy theories rather than accept that he might actually not be. ruts: ;D

Id love to actually know what Pulis fit is? I'd love to know, why if 'Pulisfit' is so fucking important we don't get some world class fitness coaches in who can achieve this quicker The bloke is on £40k (?) p/w so we've paid about £500k so far for him to contribute now't. Couple of decent fitness coaches might cost £50k p/a, so well worth the investment

Thats my issue Rob, I don't think we're being fed the facts, they're just fobbing us off with any old crap.
If the situation really was that serious (i.e. it was going to take at least 3 months to sort him out) why was he deemed ready enough to play in games when he first arrived??

He was only eased into it it to be fair, in Euro games where the pace is much slower and that 20 mins at Sunderland where the game was already over. We're clearly being very careful with him.

Palacios is clearly a massive concern long term as well as short term - Why else would we be being so careful with him ? The knee is clearly dodgy and his future has to be in question.
We have had other players in similar scenarios (Tuncay, Gudjohnnson) who have ultimately amounted to nothing - The way Ric has sprung straight back into contention says it all.
It was one thing putting our hopes on a successful upgrade to our central midfield issues, it is another only signing a crock when we were clearly so deficient in this area. Pulis has blamed his defence - There is only one person to blame for our recent failures and that is hin for making an absoulte fucking gash job of the area of the pitch games are won and lost in.

This has nothing to do with fitness and everything to do with making Palacios play the role Pulis wants him to do rather than play the way he has done in the past. Every player Pulis signs has to modify his style to fit in with the way we play,it's the Pulis way or sit on the bench. Clearly Palacios hasn't got the message yet

Also, the way he's played in the past hasn't been hugely different to what he'd be asked to do here has it?

Everything about a fit Palacios screams 'Perfect Pulis cage dweller' at you, though.
If he was fit, you'd think Pulis would love nothing more than to play his typical game in there. He's not one with any tricks, fancy passing or pretensions to get in the opposition half, so you wouldn't think he'd have to adapt much.
