I'm still sticking by my first impression of Pennant. When he came to Stoke I didn't want him here, my mates slated me, but I stood by my decision even when he was scoring last season. He's a one season wonder and I've been proved right as my mates are seeing what I saw at the start of his tenure at Stoke. Now they are slating him and not me. He got his ticket back to prem from la liga and his feet are firmly under the Stoke table as he takes his huge wage for little return. Pulis needs to get some youthful enthusiasm in like Marshall. I'll stick to my 1st impression: a player who needed a fresh start & who grabbed it with both hands works as hard as any other actual winger & proved himself a good player last season he's had a big dip in form well worth sticking with imho Thats not to say we arnt crying out for competition for both wingers & maybe Marshall can provide that.

We did block Marshall from playing in the FA Cup, so maybe there is a glimmer of hope. That is one of the better tactical decisions TP has made this season.

www.thestar.co.uk/sport/football/sheffield-wednesday/fans_favourite_keen_to_extend_owls_stay_1_4002797It'd be nice to hear something about a new contract from Stoke www.owlstalk.co.uk/forums/index.php?/topic/159075-marshall-wants-to-stay/page__st__40Everybody needs to get real
We will NOT sign Marshall on a permanent basis. He's by far the best player in the league, and would be i reckon equally as impressive in the Championship. He's a young lad and Stoke are not going to sell him, only for ridiculous money, which we haven't got. He will be near the Stoke first team next season without a doubt.
What we can do is get him on loan for the rest of the season, but i feel this will even be a tough task. Stoke want him to develop therefore i fear he will be loaned to a Championship club for the remainder of the campaign.. To sign a player of the calibre of Ben Marshall when in League 1 is almost tantamount to the signing of Waddle after finishing 3rd in the top league. He's the type of player we need if we are to aspire to successive promotions. It would be a massive statement of intent and send out a clear unequivocal message. Can we sign Ben? I don't know but his mate and colleague, Gary Madine, thinks we can. Gary expressed this view to me personally and I'm sure he knows Ben better than any of us!

Reading these comments and others earlier in the season really does confirm to me that all this talk of getting him to champ outfit to further his development is a waste of time. The prem is very poor this season with all of the bottom 10 being nothing more than top half championship standard. I'll go as far to say that anyone below 8th would find it tough going in the championship. It's a very poor season.

If Marshall does come back the pressure on him is going to be huge and the way some of our fans have been if he doesnt play well hes going to get slaughtered. It will be a big mistake to sell him at the moment but he does need to go on loan to a championship club either in January or next season. Just because we havent got a back up winger shouldnt mean we put all our hopes on Marshall.

I have said before on earlier threads. If we do not get Marshall signed up on a long term deal something is drastically wrong. Putting aside the fitness issues of Ba, Woodgate and Palacios during the signing process. To not sign what can only be described as a starlet is a MAJOR mistake. He has proven, in the opportunities he has been given, that he can perform and be the best at the level he has played at. Well worth a punt!
We've lost young ones before without seeing them. Some have worked out some less so but this could really come back on TP.

The contact situation does seem strange. I assume that he is free to speak to anyone in January. If a new contract is not signed in the next couple of weeks. We will have to assume he has had an offer from elsewhere or for whatever reason we don't rate him, unlike most other people.

TP has allowed one of his most trusted friends to manage Marshall for a few months.
Between Megson and TP there is enough experience to decide if the lad will ever be good enough for the Prem.
Not wanting him cup tied suggests Marshall's future is not at Weds.
Perhaps a loan at a higher level is the next stage in his development.

He'll be loaned out to a Champ side after christmas and, depending how be gets on, he could get his chance for us next year.
The step up from league one is huge and I don't think he's ready yet.

It would be ridiculous if Stoke don't take him back , keep Pennant on his toes , because he just doesn't look arsed

He's still got a lot of learning and developing to do, I think some supporters are expecting a little bit to much of him right now. The only thing that I would have done differently is I would has loaned him out to a championship club at the start of the season rather the Shef Wed. but i fully expect him to be in the championship after January

Pennant has played well in one game this season which was against Fulham, apart from that game he has been really poor! I would love to see Marshall given a chance! Competition is always good, at least if it's real competition for places!

Norwich have had a very decent start to the season, with 2 of last season's best League One wingers playing pretty much every game.
Superlatives and praise like the stuff Marshall is getting, even playing for a League One team, aren't dished out willy nilly by fanbases that have seen the good and the (very) bad like Wednesday's

Pennant has no interest in playing for the shirt rarely takes defenders on but chooses to either pass back or happy to play for the throw ins, couldn't wait to get off the park at Bolton pretty much knows he is going to get picked cos there is no competition for his place, I know thats not his fault but he has been the same all his career- Give a contract and he turns into a different player. I don't think it's loss of form i really think he doesn't give a toss Come on i bet all the bloody player could not wait to get off the park at bolton .You can tell the real supporters when we are having a bad run have faith it WILL change

Must admit I've never seen Marshall play, but from the reviews he's getting he must be something special. I would start giving him 15 minutes now and then to adapt if I was TP. He can't do any worse than Delap is when played out wide, can he!?
