I thought he was nearly the best of a bad bunch. Delap was woeful just spent all night avoiding the ball (with his feet). It's just gross exaggeration to say that he hit bad passes all night.

For me its about priorities - Whelan cost £500K, Rory £200K yet we have few better options
We had £13 million worth of strikers on the bench tonight and yet are still playing two lads in centre midfield who featured in the Championship
We have spent far too much money on players who dont feature enough - Its that simple

Can anyone tell me hand on heart that Whelan is worth his place in the side? He is a Pulis player through and through, works hard and runs around but he has no creativity. 90 per cent of his passes are rugby union, i.e. to a player behind him. I will tell you who is a class player - Huth. He was player of the year last season by a country mile, and his partnership with Shawcross was superb. However, he is NOT a full-back - and neither is Wilko a left-back. Huth suffers because he is prepared to play right-back when asked, but the point is HE SHOULDN'T BE ASKED! Looks like Shawcross might be out, certainly for the next couple of games. If Huth can't get a game now, then I wouldn't blame him in asking for a transfer. Pulis has done some great things for Stoke, no question. But sometimes he is shown up badly - and of course Ba stuck two fingers up to him tonight.

We are starting to sound like 'The Dingles' heard some boos tonight, FCSake it was one game.Yeah the whole team played very poorly, but to single out players and abuse them on here is not the way forward. You wait and see ,in a couple of weeks same folk will sing the praises of abused folk as they rifle home a shot, do a saving block or make an assist. Get behind them for Bolton.

People need to see the tactics for what they are and not blame individuals

Yeah let's fuck off one of our best midfielders after a couple of bad games when a few weeks ago he was called an unsung hero. Idiot. We were crap tonight but people don't half say done stupid things. Unsung hero???? He has been crap all season. For him to be one of our best Midfielders shows how poor the centre of midfield is. I dont understand what people can see that I cant when they lavish nothing but praise on him. Despite the fact most of our players had a poor game tonight he was still the worst of them all.

Whelan should be dropped for me, but Ive been saying that for weeks and have had nothing but criticism off this board. Our whole central midfield is poor we all know that but the biggest dissappointment for me has been sepnding 10mill on crouch and then wasting him in the mama role. Crouch is totally wasted doing the job he is doing now. At spurs he thrived off crosses and was a menace anywhere near the 6 yard box. Here he is being asked to do the donkey work and we shouldnt be buying class strikers to play the mama role.

Whelan could do with some help from his full backs, to give him an option so we can retain the ball...but the full backs are so woeful they don't do this. the team is too static. The only movement we seem to have is down the channels, all being well thats ok especially when easing pressure. Whelan is a ball player and needs strikers to come short and take ball to feet. Wingers to stay wide, centre mid partner to play ones twos with and Full backs to give an extra option. But non of this seems to happen. If you want talk about distribution.Wilko and wilsons distribution tonight was bad, you can see the frustration in the front two faces, ethers and pennant were not best pleased either. If wilko wasn't a Stoke lad i think he'd be another scapegoat

I just don't get it. Anyone who makes a comment on here about how poor Whelan is - week in, week out - gets accused of using him as a scapegoat. No he's not a scapegoat he's just not good enough, full stop. Doesn't matter how much he cost, since when is that particular stat relevant in the league table? There are some players who TP sticks by despite all the evidence, then suddenly the penny drops and you never see them again - I give you the name Danny Collins as a prime example. Delap, fair enough, I would keep him in the team because just occasionally he does something impressive going forward but Whelan? Give me a break!

Who ever told this useless Irish bastard he can play at this level. He wouldn't get a game in the county league if I had got anything to do with it.

Atrocious tonight and i can't recall him making a pass to a Stoke player. a silly statement, he made quite a few especially sideways and backwards why just WHELAN when Delap is just as bad at the moment, and a few others, you have to think who keeps picking them when they are repeatedly crap though
