We will have a good player. He's clearly not fit. Same as Etherington.

Palacios will be a great player. Exactly what we have been missing in the centre. He is obviously not match fit yet, but it will come.

Nah....we're ok. Murdered is an exaggeration. They've just got players a lot better on the ball and Quaresma wandering all over the place. Fernandes mugged Palacios all first half Pricey. Fuck knows what you are watching? H Whitehead was on the pitch as well, both tried to close down that lad first half and neither could. The guy was ineffectual second half not because Palacios went off but because Walters came on. Playmakers usually have good games against us because our midfield centre 2 sit deep as instructed and push up after. This gives a good player loads of time to do what he wants. When Walters came on he bombed around the place and stopped Fernandes getting onto the ball with loads of time to spot his run.

Walters may have helped with the workload , but for me Whelan changed the game. H

Superb on the ball. When fully fit he's going to be a monster!

He's not impressed me so far , but as has been mentioned he's not 'Stoke fit' yet and is still recovering from injury , so its far too early to judge him.

Whilst he is obviously off the pace due to fitness as many have said, has nothing impressed you about him? Can you not see what a fully fit Palacios could be based on what you have seen? IMHO the only downside to his game so far has been fitness which has seen him those few yards off the pace.

I've been reasonably impressed by him so far. His composure on the ball has a calming influence on me and his awareness is exceptional.

I agree with RAF/Mumf, obviously not fit, and I think the work rate of Woody and Rory covered for him a little. I think this in turn lead to us defending too deep in the first half especially, there seemed to be a lot of space between the middle 4 and the front 2, especially with Cam seeming a little off the pace as well. I do worry how we will maintain this intensity, its not even the end of September yet and we seemed to have played a million games.

I don't think he understands how we play yet. Good with the ball, but we look a weaker team defensively.

I think he proved at Spurs he is more than defensively capable. It really seems to come down to fitness for me which I am hoping will come back sooner rather than later.

I agree...with all of you actually Palacios was obviously not fit...but what I saw was someone who refuses to HOOF the ball when he cant see an obvious pass in front of him..which has always been the Stoke way. He is intelligent...he looks round even 360 degrees sometimes for a decent pass....not a briiliant game...but excited that he aint far off being top form.

We got fucking taytered in the first half in the midfield with Palacios looking 2 or 3 yards off the pace. Whitehead on the other hand is having a good game , if only he could pass. H Whoever is in the midfield has to cover Delaps position while he jogs around creating not a lot. Palacios is still not fit and twice the player Delap is so give the man a break. Looking forward to the day when we have Whelan, Whitehead, Palacios and Marc Wilson being rotated in the centre mid.

We're still seeing Palacios in pre-season form. He's decent on the ball but lacking in fitness which is hardly surprising given his recent injuries. He'll be brilliant for us given time. I wouldn't expect him to get an extended run in the side until November.

Thought he did well last night, even on the wing. No substitue for a real winger but he wasn't left wanting to much last night.

Oh yes. We have a quality player in the middle of the park. Glenn Whelan? I agree.

I thought we looked a far better team when Whelan came on. I agree though that Palacios will we excellent for us once fit although we may not see the best of him until next season with a full preseason under his belt.

I noticed Whitehead get the ball in good positions and proceed to pass the ball 20 yards BACK to defenders instead of looking to set up an attack. Very poor!

The way WP passes the ball is just what we need. Always puts the ball a couple of yards in front of the man ahead so that we're immediately on the move forwards. He's such an 'easy' player.
Watch our other midfielders pass it next time and you'll see the difference with the player receiving the ball having to check, trap the ball, look up and then decide to move or pass by which time he's marked.
It's incredibly simple but makes an enormous difference.
I can't wait 'til he's fully fit...

Good player, but it may even be the second half of the season before we see him at his best. Thought Delap did better when he went to the left, but, come on,we really need another option for the 2 wide positions if Pennant or Etherington are not available.

Im really looking forward to a midfield duo of Whelan and a fully fit Palacios.
Shame for Whitehead and Rory but in the middle I honestly think Whelan and Palacios are the way forward.
The introduction of Whelan for me changed the game, I like the way he organises people around him and gets stuck in.

On last night, I think he was tidy and, from what i've seen, looks like a good midfield marshall... but with Whitehead last night it didn't work so well. Mostly because both stayed back too much and allowed their midfielder (Fernandez?) to turn and bring it forward. As soon as Whelan came on he was quick to close down and not allow that turn, and Whelan is much better at getting up and down and receive (and keep) the ball.
For now, i'm happy with Whelan and Delap at home, Whelan and Palacios away.
