Nash/Sorensen
Shotton - Davies - Upson - Wilkinson
Soares - Cuvelier - Arismendi - Tonge - Pugh
Jones Wouldn't be surprised to see Diao in there either. This - We really dont want / need to progress in this competetion !!

I don't get those people who say we don't want to progress in cups like this, it's our only realistic chance of success! Mid table and cup wins is where clubs like Stoke should be aiming. We aren't going to win the Premier League and we aren't going to win the Europa League (although going the away games is ace). But, we could win the FA Cup or League Cup.
If you look at a clubs honours list, it show cup wins, not mediocre league finishes. We could easily stay in the Prem by giving a cup a real good go, but to sacrifice success over aiming for 6th (at best) just seems wrong to me. I want to see Stoke build on the Cup Final and add to our only ever trophy, 39 years ago!

I want to see Stoke flourish in all arenas, Cups included, but if one thing has to go, I vote for the Carling Cup!! Progress in Europe will bring us plenty of media attention and kudos, and bolstering our position in the Premier League, and seeking to cement a Top 10 finish on a regular basis is as important.....by all means let's win the Carling Cup on the way, but not if it costs us elsewhere

Sloppy Chops will be totally non plussed about this game. That said, a Spurs shadow side will still contain a lot of talented players, especially in the midfield. Hard game to call.

We are in a position with a squad that can progress in all competitions, this was just a pipe dream 5 years ago, and you never know, in another 5 years it might be a pipe dream again. Fucking go for it is my opinion, belittling our only major trophy is a load of crap. Play a strong team and progress and go for a trophy! We are also at home, no long distance travelling, so there should be no excuses.

Sorensen Shotton Huth Upson Wilko Pennant Palacios Wilson Ethers KJ Walters
Begovic Shotton Shawcross Huth Wilson JP. Palacios Wilson Ethers. Jones/Crouch Jerome Agree WD, however... I wouldn't play Palacios tomorrow and at the weekend, he's only just got back to fitness. Same for Wilson. Sorensen Shotton - Shawcross/Huth - Upson - Wilkinson Soares - Diao - Whelan - Pugh Jones - Jerome Put JP, Ethers, Palacios etc on the bench.

I would play Woodgate, Ethers and Pennant because I think all the 3 of them need more games to get back to full finess.

I'd pretty much agree with that, save for not giving Marc Wilson a run in both games after only just coming back from his hammy. I'd push Pugh into the middle tomorrow (his best position) and give Soares and Tonge spots out wide to put them in the shop window for a loan. I also agree Rory will play on Saturday (instead of Whelan hopefully, as WP may now be fit for a start), so he won't play on Tuesday as well. I'd pick WP and GW too for the weekend, but that throw is seen as too valuable for now at home by Tone.

Sorensen Wilkinson, Upson, Shawcross, Shotton Pennant, Whelan, Whitehead, Pugh Jones, Walters
Bench - Nash, Huth, Wilson, Arismendi, Diao, Soares, Jerome
I think he'll go quite strong for this one, TP won't want to lose 3 in a week and he can have a go whilst resting alot of the team for Man Utd at the weekend.
If the Spurs team is the one posted above i'd be confident of a good result. I can't understand people who say they don't want to be in the cup, it won't be like that if we make the final. I think our squad is big enough to cope, considering the amount of changes we can make and still put a decent side out.

Sorensen

Pennant Whelan Palacios Etherington
Jones Jerome No idea what the team will be, just a wild guess. I've also got no idea what the score will be, I suppose it depends on the Spurs' team

Clearly Harry isn't putting too much emphasis on this cup (despite his comments) so it's over to Tone now. Will the specter of the Shit looming into view distract him completely?

Hopefully, TP tries something like this:
Sörensen Wilkinson-Shawcross-Upson-Wilson Walters-Diao-Palacios-Tonge Jerome-Crouch
Subs: Nash, Shotton, Woodgate, Whelan, Whitehead, Soares, Jones
Huth looked disturbed vs Sunderland. Our wingers both need a rest. Fuller not ready yet. Spare Woodgate. Wilson had a good game vs Sunderland.

The only forward thining player guaranteed to start against Man u is walters , as traditionally Tony has gone for a 2-0 defeat expect to at home against them. Expeect to see a minimum of 3 defensive midfelders against them on sat delpap or whitehed out wide or both, ( dont forget he took Etherington and jones off at OT for Fuller and Pennant when we were losing 2-1 with 5 minutes to go,) , and probably four centre halves if ones not suspended. so id let Pennant Crouch , jerome and Jones and Etherington all play to find some form for swansea and Besiktas as the only one in form as our top scorer is Jones and he cant start now in a proper game now we have got Crouch its another one of Tony's rules .
