I'm happy to see how it pans out and it is difficult to argue with the point whydelilah makes. Of course we'll all have an opinion but I guess we can all agree that it's great having to debate these options when, until now, we've had two fit strikers available. Also, Jerome shouldn't be lightly dismissed in these equations despite his poor scoring record at Birmingham. He was played as a lone striker more often than not and they created bugger all for him. I suspect he will have a big part to play at Stoke. Add to that the possibility of Fuller returning to the fold and these are exciting times indeed. Agree, I am looking forward to seeing a player with such pace. Scored 11 goals in his first season in the Prem so he has the ability.

A load of tripe that I'd be willing to bet a majority of Stoke fans agree with (the ones who aren't the anti-Jones brigade who never give him credit for anything apart). He's worked hard, he's got three goals already, he's held the ball up well, all despite being one of only two fit strikers at the club and away from home being completely isolated. Neither he nor Walters were great at West Brom but both are clearly exhausted and both were completely isolated because our wingers weren't at the races and, as you point out, we're not the same team when that's the case. Jones can be a waste of space, but he's done well so far this season. You seem to want players to be flawless demi-gods who pass other teams off the park. If they were, they wouldn't be playing for Stoke. I expect a lot more for a player costing £8 million. Controlling a ball and picking out a pass is not that difficult for a professional footballer. He creates nothing, his movement is woeful. I dont enjoy watching him play, i've made no secret of that on this board. Crouch is striker of the highest calibre, Walters and Jerome will offer the required pace alongside him. With Palacios in the midfield we have a fantastic team in the making (though we desperately need a back up winger and a left back but we can save that for January). There is no need to play Jones for the sake of playing him. He will hopefully be deemed too tired to play on Saturday because of his Trinidad trip so i feel confident we will see a lively pairing of Crouch and Walters/jerome, take your pick. So basically you admit that you can't be objective about him and give credit where it's due. Righto...

He did ok against Thun but lets not forget Tom Soares was made to look like Pele. Do you want me to lie and say i thought he was fucking awesome against Chelsea Split and West Brom ?

Jones is a frustrating player. I think we have to accept that will always be the case.
As long as he’s scoring though I’m happy.
One guy criticised him after the Thun match at home. As far as I’m concerned if a striker scores 2 in a game he can do bugger all for the rest of it and still have had a good game.

I just think he should get credit when he plays well just as he gets criticised when he doesn't play well. He was very good all game at Norwich, linked well with the wide players. He toiled away with no service all game away in Europe in both games so far. I recall him having a decent game against Chelsea as well. He hasn't lived up to his price tag so far, but he has worked hard and held the ball up well this season so far and scored some goals. He's done what he's there to do effectively in that respect.

Thats fair enough, but we will just have to agree to disagree on this one. Personally I thought he was very poor against Norwich and missed some good chances. Last 15 -20 minutes his anticipation improved a bit and he got his reward. Dont want to see him starting week in week out.

I like Jones and I do think he gets far more 'stick' than he deserves. However, on the evidence so far in a Stoke shirt, and I have said this before, he is a 'reactive' player rather than one who sees situations developing and anticipates the possibilities. He doesn't 'gamble' nearly enough and tends to be too static and waits for things to happens. That said, I've reached the conclusion that THAT is the type of player he is and he can still be a huge asset for the qualities he does possess. It does mean, however, that he will always be frustrating at times.

We were away from home, Jones was getting next to no service for much of the game, yet twice in the first five minutes he played two fine diagonal through balls for Pennant, he won pretty much everything that came to him, held the ball up well despite being surrounded constantly by a crowd of defenders, and got into better positions as the game wore on. Yes, he missed a sitter, but he did well to get on the scoresheet afterwards.

Now thats one thing i will agree with you on. The service our front men get is more than often appalling. I am hoping and praying Palacios will provide a link from midfield and the fron t men. We will see.
