It is with profound regret that I have to report the death at the age of 86 years of the oldest surviving Stoke City player and my dearly loved father in law William ( Billy ) C. Caton.
Billy played for the Potters for 10 years either side of the war and was the Rory Delap of his day with a prodigious throw for the time, given the weight and construction of the ball in those days.
Billy died last night with all his family beside him.
It has been an honour and a privilege to have been his son in law. I have a thousand memories of a great family man that will stay with me for the rest of my life. Thanks for everything Billy.

Anybody relating to Stoke City should be classed as an extended family member.
At the end of the day memories are all we have, we sit and reflect, very rare do we talk about the future, more so about where we have been and what we have done and who we have met and i bet he left you with a quite a few valuable memories!

RIP to one of those on whom I 'cut my supporting teeth'.
Luckily, got his autograph just before my pen gave up whilst Syd Peppitt was signing!
