He was a bit like Lee Trundle....no he never lived in Trentham to my knowledge....in supposedly being the best player in the lower divisions at that time.He was a prolific scorer and not just with tap ins,a lot of his goals were screamers from outside the box or he beat 5 men before chipping the keeper, that sort of thing. Alas he never recreated that form at Stoke.....yet as soon as he left he started banging them in again.
If he's writing a book I'd have thought his Brizzle days would be foremost in his mind rather than his time at Stoke

The book will be out next year . As for Paul well yes he has legendary status down here in Bristol but I'm very interested to get the Stoke fans view of him . Tony Pulis is writing the forward for the book as he played with Paul at Rovers . Paul says he had a lot of time for the Stoke fans as he knows he did not deliver for a big club ,yet the fans treated him well

Hang on are we missing the obvious here ? Was it not Randall who sent in the cross for Richardson's last minute winner at Notts County to seal promotion in 1979 ? That's how I remember it anyway Took a mean corner with Big Bren in the box

Randall had scored 33 goals in a season and a bit for Bristol Rovers. Unfortunately we appeared to have overlooked that 30 of those goals had been scored at home.
Stoke didn't play at Eastville, so during his time at Stoke he continued to score at his usual way goal rate.
Once he went back to Bristol he rediscovered his scoring boots.
As mentioned his cross for the promotion winning goal was a key moment. Unfortunately, he is probably better remembered for his hair & moustache rather than his football talents.
The top flight of English football was probably a Division too high for him.

I hope if you are really a writer you will learn how to spell. The word is faithful. The only word in the English language ending ull is full Dull? Cull? Pull? Hull? Edit: nvm, got beaten to it!

I remember being at Eastville for a game around Christmas time. Stoke played well lost 4-1 and Randall scored two for brizzle I think. We signed him up soon after.
I also remember him scoring a cracker in a 3-1 win for us at Ninian Park.
Always thought he was a cultured player with a great deal of ability

i remember him climbing the fencing of the boothen after scoring a last minute equaliser in a 2-2 draw against Liverpool. I still remember that as one of my best 'mentals' ever. ;D

Iposted this a couple of years ago: All this transfer activity has reminded me of a time about 30 years ago when Stoke signed a young pacey forward from Bristol Rovers for around £180k. A mate of mine (sadly no longer with us) was going out with the then Miss Stoke-on-Trent and Paul stayed with her parents in the Westlands for a while whilst looking for permanent accommodation. Was surprised when I got a call asking if me and a couple of other pals would fancy a drink with Stoke's latest signing, we took him to Candle's Wine Bar in Newcastle. Paul came across as a nice unassuming lad who almost with embarrassment showed me a cheque for c£750 from IPC Magazines for an interview for Shoot. Was amazed when he told me that he spent about 5 minutes on the telephone and they did the rest. There was I imagining that all of these articles were typed up by the players worrying themselves silly about split-infinitives! Although he didn't pull up many trees for us I can remember him scoring a number of goals before eventually moving on. I remember his first game at the Vic, only for the Bristol Rovers fans who had travelled up to see him, they were stood outside the main entrance and I stopped to talk to them about him.
I remember the game with Liverpool where he scored 2, and loved him for that. He didn't live up to our hopes but was a good team/squad player who gave his all but he wasn't quite up to the standard where we were at the time.

He scored v West Ham on Phil Parkes debut for the Hammers. It was pissing down and muddy as fuck.
The bastard also scored a hat trick against us for Bristol Rovers just before we bought him.
We lost 4-1 and us Stokies paid a very memorable 'visit' to Worcester on the way back to Stoke. Oh the days of the transit vans. A mental night was had by all.....

Was going to mention the 'Randall's in here' commentary but beaten to it.
I used to keep Sentinel headlines as a kid........'Stoke swoop for supermarket boy' was the headline. We always swoop in the Sentinel. Randall worked as a shelf stacker before going to Bristol Rovers and tearing us a new one in the FA Cup.
Dead right on the Notts County goal. Sammy Irvine passed out wide to Randall :-) Showing off now
