A very moving thread. I have always appreciated Stephen's work and it is a very sad loss to the community of Stoke City fans all over the globe.

I only recently found out about Stephen and I am absolutely gutted. I didnt know him personally but I had spoken to him on his blog and by e- mail and he seemed such a decent man. I love all his books too and he even got me interested in football again which I hadnt watched since I was a teenager...and that is a LONG time!!! It is so nice to see all the tributes to him on here. So many people seem to love him.

Excellent post RAF but so sad. Went to several games with Stephen, usually in his car, watched games at his home and always looked forward to seeing him and Jack at SCFC games. With both of us based in Norfolk, most were away games. Still don't understand how it all happened but have his books as part of the memories.

Super fellow was winger and it seemed incredible at the time that he should take his own life. Only last Monday I was recalling it with Delia, before our match.
She had kindly invited me into the NC directors box, shortly after Stephen’s death, knowing how upset I was at the time and we chatted at length. A caring lady.
( I had got to know her through my involvement with football on the wider stage and we shared this great love for the game and our respective clubs.)

Nice and warm post Surrey. yours is an interesting coincidence as did you see the post a few days ago (on the main board) asking about Winger's novels - mainly 'She stood there laughing' and it's sequel? But it's really hard to accept its nearly EIGHT years since he left us, let alone the tragic circumstances. It'd be fascinating to think what insightful, penetrating and comedic thoughts he'd post given these past two years of our 'downfall'. Yep, I still miss him - lots.
