Just one thing - keep the tributes coming in.
I remember him being genuinely moved by the sense of "Oatcake family" when Old Stokie's wife sadly passed away. It seems only right that everyone who appreciated him in whatever form says so on here.

Seemed like a top stokie from his posts on here and the old rivals board, very witty and knowledgeable, i had 'she stood there laughing' for xmas several years ago and have never got round to reading it. I shall be taking this on holiday with me this year.
A very sad loss
Rip winger

Genuinely shocking news. I loved his two Stoke books, I've got a signed copy of 'and She Laughed No More'. I didn't know him, but always used to look out for his posts, they were always clever and witty.
RIP Winger

This is sad news. He captured and reported the experiences of the Stokie's burden as well as any I have read. When I saw that Norwich had been promoted I was looking forward to hearing Winger's posts on Delia's reactions from within Carrow road. My condolences to Stephen's family.

Shocking and saddening news - thoughts to his family. Loved his books and looked out for him on our travels from Sufffolk on the A14 to the Brit.
A special thought for you when we are at Carrow Road in August fella.

im in absolute shock
i have JUST finished reading his "the final' book-ette... and have just logged on to send him a pm, like i do after i read all of his books.
I just cant believe it
Like others have said, i feel like i know him and jack, and his life... he really did such a great job at putting the feelings of us late 30-early 40 something stokies into words
Jack, Graham, Matty and the others who were his family - if you are reading this, im so sorry to hear about your tragic loss, my thoughts are with you.

I'm in tears! What a shock. Stephen was a top man, very witty, very opinionated and also wasn't afraid to admit when he was wrong. Just after the semi final he emailed me words I never thought I would hear him utter. "Yes, Sunday was total dreamland PULIS IS GOD " Winger, you'll be missed. My thoughts are with Jack and the Family. RIP mate

Sad, sad news. I always looked for Wingers postings and being the same age related to everything he wrote about Stoke. Always remember reading She Stood There Laughing and finding our Oatie user names printed inside. A nice touch. RIP Stephen. You will be missed.

really can't believe this. Utterly devastating news and my thoughts and prayers are with Winger's family and friends.
The one positive for me is that as a writer, Stephen has left a fantastic legacy for his family and Jack in particular. His work was outstanding, and 'Strides' is a superbly underrated book.
His family should be extremely proud, and we Stokies should be extremely proud that either his friendship or writing touched us. I'm currently writing a Stoke book and I draw my inspiration off him. A massive loss.
RIP Winger

i'm simply choked
Vile, abusive pricks like me were never supposed to get on with arty twats like winger
the one thing i will treasure more than ever are my personally signed books from winger
i will miss our random calls to each other, our occasional half time meets, our frequent abusive texting.
thank God i saw you at Wembley final mate
Jack - i'm fucking choked for you and your Dad was fucking brilliant.
I'll miss you authorcunt.
