Martinez strikes me as a generallly likeable chap but why the talk of Villa and Fulham wanting him? Not exactly done a fantastic job at Wigan has he, he could quite easily have been a championship manager now.
Also Mark Hughes, He seems to be hearalded as something fantastic, ok he got unfairly kicked out at Citeh, but again has he really done a great job at Fulham?
It's good for Stoke that Pulis never gets built up within the media.
There are many good up and coming and established managers in the Championship and beyond. They must hate it.

Different things are required for different clubs. For Martinez, keeping Wigan in the Prem is an achievement. BUT would he deal with the different demands of Villa?

Hughes, did well at Blackburn. Made Citeh hard to beat but didn't win enough games, also bought Lescott for £24m, done ok at Fulham, again made them hard to beat without winning too many games. IMO needs to settle at a club and be given the time like Pulis to build a hard to beat side and then advance it to a winning side.
Martinez, did well at Swansea, moved to Wigan. Not really improved or weakened them. Although you'd argue he should be doing better with some of the players they have.

This is part of my point Joe, was keeping Wigan in the prem achievement? Paul Jewell did that.

I think it's achievement yes. If they finish 4th from the aRSE AND PERHAPS WIN A CUP GAME OR TWO THEY ARE DOING Well. (caps on sorry)
Wigan are punching above their weight really.

This is part of my point Joe, was keeping Wigan in the prem achievement? Paul Jewell did that. a few weeks ago i heard somebody say about Wigan are punching above their weight as a Premier League club with the size of them. Whilst i did agree with this but when you have players like N'Zogbia, Rodders, Diame, Fig etc in my opinion they should be finishing higher than where they are. But Martinez is still a young manager who was unproven in the premier league and has managed to keep Wigan in the league twice so im not surprised he is being linked he is also a very likeable guy. As for Hughes he guided Fulham to 8th in the table and Europa League (i know its only the fair play league) but surely that is a succesful season for a team like Fulham? So i'm not surprised Villa want him.

Wigan are punching above their weight really. Don't understand this view. Sure they are a small club in terms of fanbase, but their squad is premier league.

Good squad but as a club on the whole to be in the Prem league at all is punching above their weight. Low crowds and all that can't help. One thing we have in our favopur is that the people of SOT (generally) are behind SCFC. In Wigan they aren't bothered. That doesn't help. Must be depressing at times.

I suppose you've got to give credit to Martinez. The chairman has backed him and had faith in him and he's re-paid that. It's not easy keeping a side in the premiership. West Ham had arguably the best squad in the bottom 12 of the prem yet finished rock bottom. Fair play to Martinez for his achievements with Wigan

And for all that, you couldn't really hold it against Martinez if he chose to leave.
