Hoo Bloody ray
come on stoke. Totally enjoyed last year and despite some people complaining last year i thoroughly enjoyed the day and more importantly terminally kids benefited which was the main reason for taking part. can i suggest this is our chosen charity for all oatcake days. Also be good this year to have a team prize
Will help out if needed wherever i can. not sure how much ill be able to get involved this year as im going to be a dad in May so cant really commit too much time..
Saying that i will be more than willing to help in coming years and will get people at work to dig deep.
Well done phil, hats off to you for doing it again despite some peoples opinion last year.
By the way im sure the chlamydia kid will make a guest appearance ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Is the 'chlamydia kid' anywhere as bad as jonesinamilliion's flourescent yellow polo from year 1 or KitkatKev's pointy finger incident with Sir Gordon Banks?

agreed about the raffle, just give all the prizes to the trentham captain i think he had most anyway. i am more than pleased with the club&country polo shirt i picked up. [2]put prizes in order of value, i know someone who came second but didnt have a clue about the prizes on offer,i think he settled on the ball but with hindsight i think he would have gone with the holiday vouchers. rant over it was still a fantastic day despite the rain and i eagerly await this years sporting highlight. and thanks to all those that did give up their time and effort to ensure it all want off as it should and raised loads of dosh for dlt

The Birth of the chlamydia kid...........................
emerged from a justin rose shirt auction.
a £50 bid came out of nowhere from a certain player ( i think several pints may have had something to do with the bid) for the shirt. As gasps were drawn in the room from other players The aforementioned stood up and declared it was ok because ...........
Justin was his favorite name..........
and chlamydia was his favorite flower ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
(again i suspect the beer may have had something to do with it)
But as you would expect after a moment to reflect the crowd burst into laughter and and the chlamydia kid was born.
exactly what the oatcake day is all about. great laugh with good friends and plenty of money raised for charity.....
have pictures for the programme Phil if you need them

Letting people pick their prize is always the best option. The holiday vouchers may have been worth a fortune but if you don't want to go on holiday they're worthless. He had his chance to pick and the fact he ballsed it up is nobody elses fault but his own. It's much worse to be forced to have a prize you don't want when you would have preferred one of lesser value. * * Just read that back and it sounds like a bit of an arsey rant but it's not written that way ;D

The reason we had a number of lower grade raffle prizes is that if someone is kind enough to donate to our day, I can not (and will not) tell them it is not of a large enough value for our discerning golfers. Once I have them they must go out one way or another. I was faced with the choice of either sending them out individually or putting them in groups to reduce the length of time the raffle takes. Perhaps the later would have been better.
At one stage I thought we would not have sufficient prizes so I bought a selection of bottles for ntp and long drive prizes, I was V pleasantly surprised of the number of kind golfers who brought things on the day.
Anyone who wants to organise next years event please PM me.
The start sheet will go up as soon as the details have been made clear.

i am more than pleased with the club&country polo shirt i picked up. ================================================ I brought a load of these over from Thailand with the intention that my brother sells them off. I asked him to donate one as a prize for you guys. However, my brother is a lazy arse when it comes to selling these shirts so they are sitting in a box at my Mum's house untouched. I don't know which one he donated but they come in two colours (red or white) and with two badge combinations (old stoke/old england - city crest/three lions and new stoke/new england - current badge/St.George Cross). I will get him to donate another one this year but if anyone wants to buy one on the day then I will get him to take the box along - £15 each. I am sure Jimmy Miff can vouch for the quality of these shirts.

I cant believe this thread has come back around already. Perhaps there could one day be a Ryder Cup style event with Stokie Stokies Vs Out of the Country Stokies. Hopefully after this year, my time committments will allow me to fly back especially for the 2012 event....

One thing i liked from the 1st oatcake day as opposed to the second, was the the fact that everyone met up before hand and had breakfast together, last year it seemed to be turn up and play.
in fairness though i know we had a lot more players so it would have been difficult to get the 3pm t off timers there at 10am.
unfortunately though a lot of people had left by the time the last ones had got back , so there was no team/oatcake togetherness
just my thoughts though

The truth is that the first day was set up as a bunch of Oatcake posters getting together to meet up, have a really good laugh and put some faces to (user)names. Raising money for charity was just an added bonus. The second day was still great but seemed to be more about getting as many people in and raising as much money as possible. Hard to ever knock that as it's a great cause but it did mean there were a lot more people there who never even post on the Oatcake so a lot of the friendly banter was missing. This was increased as we all ate separately and the tee times were spread out over such a long time. However the day develops in the future it will be great as the DLT is a fantastic cause but it was never set up as a charity event and was more to do with people who chat on the internet getting together for a game of golf. Finding that happy balance is never going to be easy unless we perhaps we go for a shotgun start but if our loss is DLT's gain then we can't grumble too much.

Youll struggle to get a shotgun start at any busy golf course nowadays, especially for a 'charity event' As this fully loads up the course stopping their members going out on any part of the course for at least 4 hours (probably more like 5.) Especially in June.

I did try for a shotgun start but to have this it means the course must be closed 3 to 4 hours prior to our tee time, plus the 4+ hours it takes us to get round. This means that the course is closed to members for 8+ hours, when the miserable sods have let us have the course for a quarter of the normal green fee as it is for DLT.
Unless we wish to tee off at dawn? TPGC had a Pro competition organised by the PGA last year that was a Shotgun Start but they started at 7am, it is possible to do that but I do not think that there are two 7 o,clocks in a day.
Regarding the problem of raising money for charity versus oatcakers only playing together, perhaps the way forward is to do both by having an Oatcake Golf society as well. Organizers are needed toward this end.
Is there anyone out there to organise next years Oatcake plus someone to organise a golf society?

How come nothing is mentioned about handicaps on the start sheet? all due respect, but as the above poster has said, phil dowd is rather good & its pretty pointless playing if we don't use handicaps, mind you even that did not help me much last year
I understand its for charity, but i don't recognise many oatcakers on the start sheet
