Thats brilliant....cant help but reflect tho how much space there was on the terraces at the end of the Vics life.A capacity of 24,500 but you could clearly see the old girl could easily have held another 10,000

Who was the last Stoke player to touch the ball during our last game there?
Come to think about it, who was the 1st Stoke player to touch the ball in our 1st game at the Vic?
Anyone know?

That 2nd video brought back a shed load of early Stoke memories of mine from when I was about 6 or 7 years old
The view from The Boothen End especially. I would've been a bit lower down, sitting on one of the red barriers, my Dad making sure I didn't fall off. Can't remember who we were playing but I remember my Dad accidentally pushing me off it in celebration ;D
Also, the footage of The Brit being built. I remember walking up there most weekends and getting right next to the building works until they fenced it off on the bridge on the path that goes past the incinerator and over the railway
Cracking footage

Re werrington post:
I was just about to mention that, but you beat me to it.
I was at the Victoria Ground for that pre-season friendly game againsy Coventry and not only did Peter Thorne score, but I believe he'd only signed for Stoke during the summer, so it was his one and only appearance for us at our spiritual home.
I'm pleased about that because as a player who was to become something of a Stoke City legend, it would have been a shame if he'd never played for us at our beloved Victoria Ground.

Re Werrington Post:
....also remembering the last game at the Vic. I left work in Hanley walked down to the Plough, a couple of pints and a steak. Then walked to the ground to watch the match. Can't remember much about the match other than Gordon Strachan was the Coventry manager at the time.

Gordon Strachan was indeed their manager and they had just shelled out 500k for a striker from Walsall....his name...Kyle Lightbourne!!!.......It was indeed Peter Thornes debut also

Quite apart from the loss of the Vic, it's sad to think that all that fan passion and noise evident in that video was shortly afterwards reduced to a despondent, morgue-like collection of 8,000 somber individuals braving Brian Little's no-mark collection of a team in a windswept Britannia just a couple of years later.

It went so wrong for a few years didnt it, bates, kamara, little. Jeezuz, come to think of it, only Gudjon and a certain mr Pulis has done the job at the brit. Boskamp was a clown to.

Or was it the season before? Doesn't time fly!! I think we beat Coventry 2-1, but again I maybe wrong. Even though I went both of those fixtures, the real last game in my memory will always be against WBA.

Fantastic videos, cheers for sharing lads.
My earilest memory of The Vic is going with my nan in 1992, looking back at that I feel massively disheartened didn't attend (or get to attend) more games there. I tried to get people singing Dellilah at that tempo against Castle but must have just sounded pissed to everyone else so gave up to save face ;D.
The second video is just eerie, nothing but silence and the memories of tens of thousands of fans. I drive past from work almost every day and it's a crying shame that the (burial) ground is still nothing but wasteland.

Can I just say that I was priveledged enough to be in the Boothen Stand for that Liverpool game that we won 2-0. Conroy scored the goals and Huddy did some moves I've never seen since.
40000 was the fucking gate. Terraces and all.
Happy days

Hi, This looked like a very good thread to ask for some help I have with a project about the Victoria ground. I am an artist who draws football grounds amongst other things. I have started to draw some of the older grounds and I get asked for The Victoria ground a lot. Its a big challenge due to lack of photos of the ground. I am only interested in a vista from a fan's approach. I like to draw the houses around the ground too. Here is my website - www.urbancolours.co.ukI have a few pics to work from. I want to draw the Main Stand as approached from the street with the club shop on the right. Can someone tell me the name of the street and whether that house (shop) is still there? Any photos of this street past or present and any other pics of the Main Stand would be really welcome. I have worked liked this for my prints of Highfield Rd and The Manor Ground and would appreciate any help here. I am happy to offer a print of the final image in exchange for any pictures that have what I need to finish the drawing. Cheers Read more: oatcakefanzine.proboards.com/thread/235815/walking-victoria-ground#ixzz3pYuAdJJg
