In years gone by when the English assessment was Jane Eyre I imagine you had to read the whole book, we just had to read Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 (I think). Its a shame it isn't done that way any more. I read Jayne Eyre in junior school (they had run out of ready reader books for me lol) along with other classical literature such as Treasure Island, Pride and Prejudice and David Copperfield etc. Certainly in my case it fostered a love for books and by the time I got to High School I enjoyed the English literature reading list. I recall being the only one in the class who had read A Midsummer Night's Dream previously and through choice. (Yes, I was sad like that, still am) The system as it is now doesn't encourage reading, as you say reading 2 chapters from a classic doesn't give you any insight into the story, the period or the character so cannot possibly leave you with any interest. I read whole books/plays for GCSE, with the only exception being a soliloquy from 'Julius Caesar' which we read on its own to do a piece of coursework on it. Also, am I still king of the GCSE results?

As far as I'm aware, the only peepz younger than me on my Facebook off here are Rhodesy, Cupid Stunt, Penkhull, JBStokie, Phillips, and Brad (but he doesn't really count, it's a matter of months). And I normally ask people if I know them before accepting them. Don't make me trawl through my friends, lad. Just tell me. what a cunt

As far as Facebook goes, I've got 2 from here and I just sit and wait for them to make updates... and pretend that they are talking to me personally. Such close friends, it makes me cry sometimes how much I love and appreciate them. In all seriousness, I hope you both die. Bless ;D ;D

Eleven plus, 6 O-levels, 4 A-levels and then the professional qualifications to follow. The most important, by a country mile, was the 11 plus which gave me access into the wider world - Wolstanton, Bradwell, Porthill, Baldwins Gate and eventually the more exotic places like Barlaston, Rough Close, etc

Hey Boother, did you have the misfortune to have Mr Tunney as a headmaster ? Made me sick to hear him wittering on about how hed enjoyed his time in teaching and was sad to be retiring. Biggest bully Bishop Bright / St Thomas More ever had on its premises. F*****g detest that bloke I do

A few As and Bs at GCSE and A level, then a 2.1 degree. I thought at the time, because I'd got a few decent grades, I'd piss into a nice big-earning job that I was ace at. Twelve years after graduating, I finally earn an Ok-salary, but am more disillusioned with my career than ever before, stuck on a path that I never really wanted to be on and have too many domestic responsibilities to risk a change. The key to being happy and successful in your job is not getting good academic grades but deciding what you WANT to do when you're 16-20, and not giving up until you achieve it. If you listen to other people and let them sway you, you end up like me...a wage slave whose life is pretty much a constant misery for 40-odd hours a week, plus the hours at home spent dreading the following day's stress and misery. If I could go back in time and have a chat with my 16 year old self, I'd give myself a right big kick up the bollocks and tell myself those As mean fuck all.

At GCSE level I got A's in English Lit & Language, B's in everything else. Think it was 11 GCSE qualifications in total.
At College A-Levels I got an A in Film, B in Media and C in ICT.
Then I got a FD (foundation degree) in Film Production and Management, and then did a year 'top-up' course to get a 2:1 BA(hons) in Studies in Film.
Shame I don't have a decent job to show for it!!!

Depends how you count it Jimmy, on the statistics for it a GNVQ is 4, by that measure it would give me 15 GCSE's (16 if you count in my awful D RS GCSE which I don't) with 2 AS levels and an ECDL and French qualification by the end of highschool. What's the .5 of a GCSE in?

Following on from trouserdog's post, to anyone who isn't at uni yet and wants to earn a shitload of money via the acquisition of an academic qualification, your future selves might advise your 16 year old asses to do economics.
