I alerted the club to this thread, mainly so that they could see the comments about the blockage problem, assuming they would be fully aware of the incident. In fact they weren't. John Alcock rang me to tell me that he received a call that there was a man on the concourse with blood on his face, but by the time the stewards arrived, he had gone, and he had not sought assistance from the first aiders at the ground. I agree with his view that violence and assault is unacceptable in any circumstances and that it is a police matter. It is clear from this thread that there is more than one side to whole story ( as is so often the case in my experience on FSF work) but neither the club nor the police can investigate the incident and the build up to it, without it being reported to them. They do not know the name of the person assaulted, who has made no complaint. I would suggest that reporting the incident so that it can be properly investigated by both the club and the police should be done before starting a thread designed to invoke anger, mostly from people who did not witness the incident. On the wider issue John Alcock is aware of the problem and will review the deployment of stewards. He does have a problem at the end of games because of the need for stewards to take up their post-match positions. He did say, however, that he has recently deployed stewards to some exits to deal with the problem but they have reported back that they were simply unable to move people on, because of the sheer number on the steps and the outright refusal of a lot of them to respond to the stewards requests to move on.All in all, this is a very depressing thread in several respects. That's a pretty lame response from John Alcock, Malcolm. If 5,000 people were chanting racist chants in the Boothen, would they just let it go because there was too many to stop? Even if other people aren't able to show respect for their fellow supporters, Stoke City have an OBLIGATION to show respect for all their patrons, by getting the problem sorted out.
