Me too March. Orrible. I was right down the front and to the left of Banksy's goal when that fuckin' penalty went in. Why did Banksy not go for it? He swayed to the left and it went in just to his right. I guess he was just wrong-footed. I haven't sung at a football match since. I was convinced we were going to Wembley. A little something died inside me that day. I think all that long hair scarred you for life March! ;D

There's a photo of the Hillsborough crowd in the following year's souvenir brochure, captioned 'We'll be with you', I believe. I'm the big nutter in the parka and scarf leaping four feet off the ground in the middle of the shot!

Well yes, the backpass was very generous march, but he was still a big-headed, greasy haired wanker. Peter Storey was a twat also. George Armstrong was a short-arsed, bandy legged nonce and the less said about Peter Storey the better. (Nearly 40 years ago and there's still a hint of bitterness in my tone?)

Made it to Wembley in 72. Favourite match from that era, Stoke 5 - Arsenal 0, TC scoring a thunderblot from 35 yds.

As a callow 6 year old, I was I n Longton Market when TC scored - always remember an elderly ( I was 5 so she was probably 30 at most) clapping her hands together saying we had scored. I was on The Meir for the homecoming and remember waving my gloves n the air. We used to live opposite Dennis in The Meir but I cannot really remember him. I was at Meadow Lane though - what a day and it was Richardson's nose that did it. Am in a bit of banter with a very learned Arse fan at the moment who remembers the FA cup semis but not the league tonking we administered..... Must say the Luton 4-4 was class as was the Maguire 4 goal performance. However, the greatest individual performance I have seen to date for Stoke, was Hudson's comeback game versus Arsenal. Overweight, rusty, slow - did not matter, Absolute class - and he was clapped onto the pitch by his team mates before we kicked off (if memory serves me right). He kept us up that year - when we had no right to be given what had gone on.

Lucky enough to have been old enough to be there, but young enough for it to be magical....
Hillsborough - always thought I was 9 but flippin eck I was 8, remember standing on my seat shouting Charlie George show us yer handbag.
Remember OT and the 2nd replay v West Ham as though it was yesterday, what a game, what a game - Bobby Moore in goal, Mickey B's penalty, and I recall Eastham running over the ball on its way to a throw, backheeling it of a West Ham guy and us winning the throw - I can also recall Harry R being a pin-up in those days.
Wembley 72 - up about 04-00, buying all the papers in Wilkinson's Newsagents in Dresden before getting down to London, catching the tube to visit the Science Museum then walking down Wembley, unlike Utd etc, its because its so rare that its so special. What a friggin day, only disappointment was not getting a silk flag. Stood up Meir cheering the boys home on the Sunday with my life-long supporting Grandad whom (it had been deemed) had been too old to go the day before - it must have made him so proud but also broken his heart not to be there.
We seemed to play Utd every other week in those days and nearly always won, especially those great nights at the Vic under floodlihts.
Goodison - stood in line CG being 10 yards offside, tell me again why I hate Arsenal with wenger-ence...
Best forget Kaiserslautern, but by the time we played Ajax - well we'd really made it by then hadn't we ?
Huddy's arrival was like signing Beckham - unbelievable (Thanks Alan), Osgood's non appearance served to create Big John's greatest moment against Southampton - imagine if it happened today - HURST - he's hit the crossbar - and Ritchie follows up, what's he doing - (just taking the Michael out of Osgood)
Then the freakin wind blew our hopes away.
Meadow Lane was by far the most unbelievable occasion from (I believe) Danny the Chin's penalty before the game, to PR' diving header - all made by the fact that we'd been so safe for so long in the game - then HAD to score We bought our first video in 1984, on the day of the Luton Town game - what a way to "record" your first Stoke game with this modern technology. Still there's no other's that can sing WE WON IT TWO TIMES, what a fantastic testimony that is to the past 23 years of erm, bleak enthusiasm.
So now we're back up, its all changed, never quite saw the Waddington Wall, but TP's following a strategy that's worked before, and in Tuncay has signed someone with the potential to be the third coming of Huddy....
Trouble is, the game's now a bit mamby-pamby for my liking, old Scholesy wouldn't have commanded midfield against Bluto or Josh, but sadly, the game's got corrupted as emphasised by the Jug Eared tw@t on MOTD with Stoke always on last.
And whatever happened to Its a Cup-Final knockout on the big day ??? Not a sign of a its a Champions League Jeux sans Frontiere !!

Just got home from the pub and find a thread like this
Was there in 72 as a starry eyed 13 year old
Hillsborough made me cry, and yes I stood right at the back at Villa in the semi final and that shale bank was so scary it was untrue
I quite liked Charlie George because he was flamboyant and something different - until them semi finals
McClintock, Rice, Wilson, Storey, Simpson, Armstrong - oh the heart fuckin bleeds
Thats what makes last years win against Wengers Whingers even more memorable
To lose (and be robbed blind) in two semis in two years was really a lot to take, but what goes round comes round (unless you are Manure or Arsenal)
The night I remember very vividly was the away match at Bristol Rovers when we won 4-2 in the fifth round. That was the night when I thought we can do this. To have your team reach Wembley Stadium as a 13 year old was a dream come true and one day that will live in my memory forever

didnt make it to wembley, was right at the front at meadow lane, when the whistle went the wall infront of us collapsed under the pressure of stokies trying to get on the pitch,my cousin lost both shoes as he was pulled clear,i often think if that wall hadnt crumbled my cousin and i plus a few others wouldnt be here today, didnt stop us going onto the pitch and grabbing a piece of turf though.

Yep - was there with my dad. Just a quick funny, when I saw the pools coupon for the week of the wembley final it said... Stoke OR West Ham v Chelsea (as we had yet to finsh the Sham off). I asked my dad why? And he said it depended on who got to Wembley first on the day! I shit myself as Upton Park was (and is) a lot closer to Wembley than the Vic. I was oh so very happy when we got there and my Dad told me we had won the race!
Oh and Meadow Lane - was there too. It is without debate one of the finest Stoke moments ever.

I was fortunate to be at Wembley, and i always think about it every 4th March, was a truly great day. Was fortunate to meet all the players after the match, we had some great characters. TC, John Ritchie, Jimmy G, Banksy etc. Very emotional for the likes of local lads Smithy, Bluto, Jackie Marsh, etc. All these players always had time for the fans. I must have their autographs 100 times each! I was lucky enough to be on the coach behind the players when they returned for that momentous reception to the Potteries on the Sunday. The Arsenal semi finals are still the source of nightmares for me. The Ajax home game is still one the best Stoke games I have ever had the pleasure to attend. i had never seen passing of that standard before. And some of Huddy's home games were awesome, Liverpool, Chelsea, Man City, Leeds etc. Hudson was a world class player, no doubt about it, he used to control games, a crime that he never got more England caps. 1970-1975 was a golden era for me. Great times.

Old man mustard went and took a photo of me in a red and white hat and scarf before he set off. I was three months old. When I've got a spare hour or three I'll ask him what matches stand out.

I was there with my dad. Well, dad went off to the Stoke end. But, my late uncle Jack, who just before he went to Suez in 1956 as a Parachute Guards Rgt., soldier, married a Woking, Surrey girl. His bro-in-law in Surrey got tickets with the Chelsea supporters! So, I watched the game with the Chelsea fans! Just before, the match with my City scarf on, a Chelski fan stuck his elbow in my ear.Of course, early in the game, Conroy scored. At half-time the Chelski fans were bemoaning their bad luck i.e. Stoke have done nothing! Naturally, I turned round and said, "Except, score!" Ron, my uncle's bro-in-law, then pushed us both down several steps before we got thumped!
To be utterly fair, many of the Chelski fans stayed at the end and applauded the Stoke team! So, never forget the camaderie of football!

I was there for the final in 1972. Remember going on the train and George Eastham poking in the winner. The homecoming on Sunday was my biggest memory, I was just amazed how many turned out to welcome the team back. Also remember just over a couple of weeks later, having to come back early from honeymoon, to see us play Manure in a mid week replay in the FA cup. John Ritchie winner comes to mind. Those were the days when the wife began to understand what Stoke meant to me. She even came with me for a couple of seasons but refused to go again when they sold Jimmy Greenoff to Manure. Was also at Meadow Lane in that open end behind the goal. Great day.

My favourite goal is Jimmy Greenhoff's. He was practically on the goal line beyond the left post at the Stoke End but still lobbed the ball in and then ran off to the The Butler Street Strand to celebrate! That drubbing sent Arsenal off on a run that won them the Double! Your memory is good, but like me, still keep taking the Sanatogen!

Went to every game that season home and away. remember the crowds of fans waiting all night at the boothen end to get cup final tickets.what a great night that was, me and my mate got home sunday morning about ten thirty and about two hours later mick brnard called him and gave us sixty tickets with the exspress wish that they only went to genuine potters. we sold all the tickets plus a coach to wembly .did not make a penny profit because everyone was a stokie through and through and you don't do that nto uther stokie's.

I never forgave my Dad for not taking me to 72 final, he told me that he wasn't taking me to this final because he was going with all his drinking buddies and back then there wasn't any pubs that would allow an 11 year old in, but would take me when we got to the FA cup final in May, which was believable back in those days, I'm still bloody waiting. What hurt me the most was loads of the glryhunting kids who professed to be Arsenal, Shit, Leeds fans etc were all going down to wembley, and I who once had a school report that read " If Nicholas knew as much about maths & english as he does about Gordon Banks & Stoke City He's be top of the class" wasn't going

I was at Wembley. Strange what you remember: my clearest memory is Jackie Marsh crawling along the touchline looking for his contact lens. Or did I dream that?
I was also at Upton Park for the semi, which was a great game. Someone else mentioned that Bobby Moore ended up in goal for the Hammers. If memory serves, it was because their goalkeeper (Ferguson?) got injured. It was a bit embarrassing as we had a run of injuring opposition keepers.
West Ham fans were great in those days. If you took the p**s out of one of their players, they'd most likely agree with you. The Chelsea fans were fine too, as I remember.
