Can't criticise Coate's commitment this time around. I harbour some doubts about Ameobi ( fitness/ability at next level up/possible costs we have committed ourselves to ) but from what I've seen of Pearson he is a very good player. Skilfull and can score goals but also committed and able to tackle.
3 points tomorow please lads just to help calm my nerves!

All i said was i didnt think he was ANY BETTER than Gally on the left wing which is what we have bought him for. He is a central midfield dynamo NOT a winger.
(Similar situation to Danny Pugh)

Well Done Stoke another top signing I rate this guy but have to agree with Gary Hackett, his best position is central midfield. I don't want to sound a twat but we are still short of a genuine left sided player with a bit of creativity and pace, now that to me would have been the final piece of the jigsaw. Never thought I would say this but well done Peter Coates once again though.

forums.therams.co.uk/thread.jspa?threadID=7824&start=30&tstart=0Pat: Pearson is simply Scot-on!
By Steve Nicholson
Former Scottish international Pat Nevin is convinced Derby County have picked up a bargain in Stephen Pearson and is tipping the "midfielder to become a top-class player.
Derby paid Celtic £750,000 for Pearson a week ago but Nevin, who enjoyed a 20-year career with clubs in Scotland and England, believes the player's value will rocket in time.
He feels the 24-year-old has some "extra special" qualities and a "world class" ability to break from midfield.
He has likened Pearson to John Wark and Brian McClair - two men who hit goals at the top level in England for Ipswich Town and Manchester United respectively, as well as for Scotland.
Nevin, now a pundit for Channel Five, won 28 caps and played for Clyde, Chelsea, Everton, Tranmere Rovers, Kilmarnock and Motherwell.
It was while filling an unusual role as chief executive/player at Motherwell that Nevin gave Rams boss Billy Davies his first break in management and also became aware of Pearson's talent.
"I recall playing in the Reserves at Motherwell with Stephen, who was a teenager at the time," said Nevin. "I was playing off the front man when Stephen knocked the ball up to me and, by the time I had turned the defender and crossed, he was on the end of it.
"I remember thinking 'that is not actually possible - are there two Stephens on the pitch?'
"All players have strengths and weaknesses but his ability to get forward at such pace is one facet of his game which is world class. It is astonishing how he does it.
"I'm not saying Stephen is as good a player as Wark and McClair but it is no exaggeration to say his ability in terms of arriving in the box and getting on the end of things is as good.
"As yet, he does not have the same ability to finish, but he does have a decent goal record."
Pearson was not a regular starter under Gordon Strachan at Celtic and previous boss, Martin O'Neill, tended to play him wide on the left. Nevin feels a combination of the two things blunted the player's progress.
His debut for Derby came as a substitute in last Saturday's victory over Sheffield Wednesday and he is in the squad to face Southend United this weekend.
Nevin has no doubt that Pearson will be rejuvenated under Davies and this will kick-start his international career.
"I'm certain Stephen will be back in the Scotland squad as soon as he starts to play regularly again," said Nevin.
Pearson has won six caps for his country and made his debut at 20 against Holland in a Euro 2004 play-off tie at Hampden Park in November 2003.
Nevin was impressed by Pearson's display against the Dutch. "Stephen was superb and the Dutch players could not live with his running.
"He was first pick for Scotland a couple of years ago but fell away because he was not playing in Celtic's first team.
"Scotland need Stephen and he can get back in the international picture. I have no doubt of that."
Nevin is proof that playing in the second tier of English football does not jeopardise the chances of representing Scotland.
He won as many caps while with Tranmere, 14, as he did while at Chelsea (six) and Everton (eight).
Nevin played in the top divisions north and south of the border. He also played in Division One, now the Championship.
Nevin seems to see him as primarily a great natural athlete. "Hutton has a natural athleticism and that in itself is enough to take someone like Stephen Pearson, who has many other things lacking from his game, a long way. When you look at what Hutton has in his locker, however, you can see he's exceptional. It's not just his pace and power but the timing of his tackles'

I am a Celtic fan, and I've seen a lot of this lad.
Big, big heart, very fit, quite pacey, likes to score and can get a few: scored a winner in a big Champion's League game v Benfica. Celtic fans liked his attitude and obvious sincerity.
But ... gives away the ball more than he should, both when dribbling and passing, an enthusiastic rather than clinical tackler.
I should say he's most like a likeable, honest version of Robbie Savage in his Leicester days. He might be most useful as a good example of high energy to 'cruisers' like Diao and Delap

Ah, but if he's a dynamo and a busy player then he'll likely do better on the left than Gallagher, who looks anonymous.

Pearson is a superb signing for us in the Championship.
I work with a friend who is a Derby County supporter who tells me he is a very fast, strong left midfielder. However he is seen out on the piss in Derby every Friday night with Kenny Miller and they get wankered! I hope Pulis gets on top with this issue!

Derby boss Jewell explains Pearson's Stoke switch March 28, 2008
Derby County boss Paul Jewell has explained why he's allowed winger Stephen Pearson to join Stoke City.
The former Celtic star could make a permanent move to Stoke in the summer for £1.5million - double the £750,000 Derby forked out for him.
Jewell said: "Stephen would not have gone if we had any chance of staying up.
"But any money we can save now will go towards helping us come straight back up. He's a decent player but I have to make these decisions for the long-term benefit of this club.
"It's a good move for him and it's a good move for us financially. The money we save from him going will go into the pot for next season.
"It will be ploughed into making a sustained Championship challenge."

As with Ameobi, it doesn't look like we're compelled to take him in the summer. But, in the last paragraph, Jewell seems to indicate we're paying them a 500,000 loan fee(!) plus some/all of his wages?
PEARO OUT AS RAMS REBUILD by TOM SLOAN DERBY County midfielder Stephen Pearson has left the club to join Championship promotion hopefuls Stoke City.
The 25-year-old Scottish international has joined the Britannia Stadium outfit on loan until the end of the season with a view to a permanent £2.5 million move after protracted negotiations continued yesterday morning after the Thursday deadline.
Although one of the Rams' better players in a miserable season, the fee agreed between the clubs, if the move becomes permanent, represents a tidy profit for Derby after they shelled out £750,000 to bring Pearson to Pride Park from Celtic in January, 2007.
The fee agreed is composed of add-ons which will eventually total the £2.5m figure.
The former Motherwell midfielder will best be remembered by Derby fans for scoring the winner in last season's play-off final against West Bromwich Albion to get the Rams into the Premier League.
However, he was a regular in the treatment room, sustaining a dislocated shoulder and a double hernia this season.
In all, he appeared for Derby 40 times, scoring just the one goal.
Boss Paul Jewell is happy with the loan - which will earn the Rams £500,000, even if the player returns in the summer.
He said: "Stephen Pearson wouldn't be going to Stoke if there was a chance of us staying up. But the reason he's gone to Stoke is all the money that we save or we get in from now will go back towards the promotion campaign next season.
"It's not going to be hidden away to pay bills. It's going to be used as a springboard to try to get back into the Premier League, and back into the Premier League a lot better than we have been.
"I gave Stephen the option - he was aware of it - I asked him and he wanted to speak to them. It's a good move for Stephen and it's a very good move for us financially because the money that we get now for the loan fee and what we get when he goes permanently will all be ploughed in to making a real sustained effort for next season.
"There's a transfer fee agreed between the two clubs - if they take him it's going to rise up to £2.5 million.
"He's a decent player but I have to make these decisions for the long-term benefit of the club.
"That was obviously key for the player. There were a couple of clubs came in for Stephen in the Championship that weren't anywhere near promotion so there's no attraction for him to move there.
"Stephen Pearson may well be here next season - Stoke City might not take him. But the money we're getting from him going on loan - if he comes back, great - will go towards a sustained Championship attack next season because if Stevie comes back, we have quite a considerable amount of money, half a million pounds, to go back in, plus the wages we've saved on him, to go back in to strengthening our squad next season.
"It's almost a no-loser for us. If we had any chance of staying up, Stephen Pearson wouldn't be going."

Boys, don't believe everything you read in the papers. Especially a shite Derby biased rag like the Burton Mail (where FullerMagics article was taken from). The Burton Mail makes the Sentinel look like the Financial Times. Yesterdays edition which was pushed through my door at 5pm last night had a back page headline of "Pearson to stay at Pride Park". Only 5 hours after his signature for us was announced on the radio. GlynBurton was on here yesterday saying he knows the author of the article Tom Sloan and that he is a big Derby fan so no bias there then. Derby are spinning this for all they're worth talking of £500k loan fees and a £2.5 m fee in the summer. Bollocks. Jewel is spinning this crap because he knows Pearson has been by far their best player this season (not hard tho I accept) and the fans are ALL gutted that he's gone. He is a cracking signing plus I'm having some fun asking the sheepshaggers what its like to be Stoke's feeder club.
