On Monday night, September 13th Richard Edwards suddenly collapsed as he stood cheering the Stoke team off the pitch after their injury time win against Villa. Unfortunately, despite all the resuscitation efforts of friends, St. John Ambulance and Staffordshire Ambulance Service he never recovered and very sadly he died in North Staffs Royal Infirmary an hour later. He was 53 years old; husband, father, son, dentist, friend, and - City through and through. From Endon, Leek and then Waterhouses Richard supported Stoke all his life – from being taken to the Victoria Ground as a young boy, to now watching with his family from their seats in the West Stand at Britannia. He was often logged on to the Oatcake as “ Bootthedog” and this message is posted on behalf of his wife and family to inform everybody about what happened to Richard last Monday night as we know that many fans noticed events and have expressed their concerns and best wishes here on the Oatcake. We also want to say thank you to St John and the Staffordshire Ambulance paramedics, to the club officials, and to the police for all their efforts which made sure that everything possible was done. Thank you too for all the kind words, condolences and support that people have given here and in many other ways. Richard was a lovely man, great husband, fantastic Dad and the best of friends for so many. I cannot think of anyone ever saying a harsh word against him. We will all miss him so much and yet we know that, at the last, he was over the moon about Huth's late winner.
