I actually like all the St George's flags, banners etc but why write 'ENGLAND' on the St George?
However I'm concerned about the St George increasing use in race related arguements.

Why not have England written on your flag? is it a crime now? i've just had some done with "Think about England" on them to promote our world cup song. Does that offend anyone? It certainly isn't meant to be used in any race related arguments? Dont know where youre coming from here mate? Why can't we shout about our country at a time when we all need something to get behind! Come on England!!!!!

In regard to the word 'ENGLAND' I think it's fairly obvious what the flag is saying without the literally writing 'ENGLAND' on it. Far too Chavvy In regard to race I agree I don't think they offend but do think they are used by some as a 'I'm English you got a problem?' negative attitude occassionally.

used by some as a 'I'm English you got a problem?' negative attitude occassionally. Or maybe that's just a perception by some people like yourself that just looks into things far too much. I'd say it's used as "I'm English and Proud to advertise it"

Well as St George isn't just the patron saint of England, I don't think it is fairly obvious as it goes.

Daft as it sounds, it's not so many years ago that most people thought the Union flag was the flag of England. This only changed when St George's Cross began to re-emerge in the light of Scots/Welsh devolution. So maybe the commercial habit of writing the country's name on the things developed as a result of that, in case potential buyers thought it was Danish or something?

It's about personal preference, I prefer a plain red cross, and to be honest there are far too many flags with England written on, it looks stupid IMO, we must be the only country to be daft enough to write the countrys name on the flags, the odd flags with quotes on like think about England are good but a flag I saw the other day with sports direct written all over it was wrong and looked absolutley daft

Shouldn't our patron saint be St. Edmund anyway? Rather than one that is patron to 10 other countries, 16 other cities and a small Maltese island?

This has to be a joke, why do you think we have Stoke City F.C on our badge. Because other clubs use red & white vertical stripes? And because that's what badges do, have words, as opposed to flags, which are nearly by definition symbols without words?

Well you learn summat new everyday, turns out he was a Roman soldier.
