A long steady run in the Prem or complacency?
Are there any stats on when teams go down after longer spells?

Third season syndrome is a real bitch. We'll be lucky to survive without going into admin. And if by some chance we DO survive, Fourth season syndrome is lying in wait - and I don't need to tell you how horrible that can be. ;D

Wasn't it the third season where Birmingham ballsed up under Bruce, brining in prima donnas like Heskey and changing their style of play?

ridiculous high expectations from fans Correct Pulis law no. 2 - Stoke fans should have no expectations of their team. This is enforced by the Pulis thought police.

I would expect
1. More investment into the playing side, in line with the last 2 seasons 2. An improvement in our play in the centre of the pitch 3. Replace our championship players with decent Prem standard players e.g. Sidibe, Delap, Wilko 4. Another solid Premier League finish - 8th to 14th.
OK mate?

He'd fucking hate it.

We will have an increasing % of fans who can not remember how bad we've been over the last 30 odd years; expectations, moaning, wailing and gnashing of teeth will increase as fans expect us to start to challenge for a top 3 spot.

I agree with that, but not with Wilko he will continue IMO, and Delap and Sidibe will still contribute if only in fewer games as we progress, not just replace.

Pretty good assessment mate although if you trawl through the bench and the reserves i'd have thought you could have found three better and more urgent examples to replace than those three.

I'm on about the first team Beardy. As long as Sidibe has a Stoke contract and has two legs he will play in the first team. The manager cannot see beyond him. As long as Delap has two arms he will play

Third Season Trauma. Both Norwich and Ipswich were relegated in their third season's in the Prem in the early 90's. I can't see any other examples. There are, however, quite a few clubs who went down in their fourth season (there are more than second season casualties). So it looks like it is Fourth Season Syndrome to be worried about, which of course will be when we lose our two most important players; Sidibe and Delap.
