why not, it's football and probably be more exicting than many an FA cup final over the last 10 years. Just think half of asia are now looking to buy knock off barnsley and pompey shirts

I'd much prefer Barnsley vs Cardiff than another dull "big twatting four" match.

It doesn't really matter to me who's there, because it's never Stoke, but if I had a choice this year it would be West Brazil v Portsmouth.
That would actually be a decent game of football.

I want Barnsley to win it.
Failing that I'll be supporting Harrys boys.
Cannot contemplate the horror of "boing boing" ringing around Wembley whilst Mobray and Phillips parade the cup and the whole of the BBC pass out in a mass mutual-masterbation accident.
The thought of the taffs winning the FA cup and the egg-chasing is even worse!

I would watch Barnsley - Cardiff no problem. Much more interesting angle if you ask me and probably more entertaining football on show
So why is it ironic Prestwich? Who says they dont want to watch the final?

Cardiff v Barnsley ffs would be shite, possibly the lowest ever viewing figures ever. You want to see the best players on show for our major cup final (shown all around the world)not Championship cloggers.

I've heard the FA have cancelled their order of prawn sandwiches for the sponsors boxes.

I definitely wouldn't be interested in a chelsea v. man utd final that's for sure, rather go shopping.
absolutely sick of the big four, this FA cup has rekindled a bit of interest in the game for me.

How many really good FA Cup finals have we seen since the Premiership was formed? Not many. Who ever makes it to the final - this year's final will be a breath of fresh air. I doubt if I have bothered to watch half the finals in the last ten years but I'll definately be glued to the box for this one - whichever teams make it.
If I had a preference then I'd opt for Cardiff v the Baggies. If nothing else it would nail the lie that football begins and ends with the teams in the Premiership. It would also deny a European place to a Premiership club - which has to be good.

Pompey will get there. They'll beat whoever they get.

You tend to find people divide into 2 camps on an 'issue' like this
1) The real fans who go to games and support their 'local' team are delighted to see an FA cup like this one and will enjoy the game, partly becasue they can understand the euphoria a Barnsley / Cardiff fans is feeling.
2) The armchair fan who supports a Premiership team who knows fuck all about football outside what Match of The Day serves up and will bemoan the lack of 'stars' and 'glamour' as they see football as more of a 'background noise' to their lives rather than an intrinsic part.

To be honest the monopoly of the big premiership teams has destroyed my interest in the FA cup in recent years. Cup final day always used to be a big event for me but I haven't even bothered to watch the last few finals. One final I alwaysmake sure I watch is the non-premiership playoff final and it normally delivers the excitement the FA cup used to.
I think the FA cup upsets have been great and I will definitely be watching the final this year.

The really good thing about the final this year is that it will mean everything to the players, the fans, the management and owners of which ever team wins it - and that is not something you can say about a lot of FA Cup finals these days.

Whats amazing is that for ages there's been a sort of clamour for lower clubs to have a good cup run and get some romance and interest going. Now its happened there's an idea that its only because the big clubs don't treat the FA cup with respect. Its harsh on some fine achievements and shows that some people are to happy being miserable to be happy.

I'd like to hear ukyestony's views on the events of this years competition. He posted earlier in the season about how it was all a big fit-up and no-one from outside the top 4 would win it.

Well you can either see it as being ace and refreshing and exciting or see it as being just because the big clubs are perceived to be disinterested.

I'll go for ace and refreshing.
The big clubs clearly are interested. The slapped-arse faces of Wenger, Fergie, Grant et al are testiment to that.

I agree with you on this. I think Barnsley have earned it given the teams that they've knocked out, don't you? Also, after Redknapp's comments last year ('Every player in the Premiership hopes to score the first FA Cup goal at Wembley this year' - what about everywhere else, harry?) it would be nice to see his lot given a good stuffing in (preferably) the final. I definitely wouldn't be interested in a chelsea v. man utd final that's for sure, rather go shopping. absolutely sick of the big four, this FA cup has rekindled a bit of interest in the game for me. Last season I watched the England - West Indies test match instead of the FA Cup final. I had sod all interest in the Cup final that the FA had so desperately wanted. you could have predicted it at the start of the season, it was so obvious and you could almost say that it was doctored to be so. You tend to find people divide into 2 camps on an 'issue' like this 1) The real fans who go to games and support their 'local' team are delighted to see an FA cup like this one and will enjoy the game, partly becasue they can understand the euphoria a Barnsley / Cardiff fans is feeling. 2) The armchair fan who supports a Premiership team who knows fuck all about football outside what Match of The Day serves up and will bemoan the lack of 'stars' and 'glamour' as they see football as more of a 'background noise' to their lives rather than an intrinsic part. This is also true. We know which one is right, though. If two Championship teams contest it, it will be a good game with an excellent atmosphere, guaranteed. With the supposed 'stars', we'd be treated to a dull display of one-dimensional prima donna 'football' with lots of cheating. They were complaining yesterday that Cardiff used long throws during their victory over Middlesbrough and were shocked that the referee didn't allow the Middlebrough's players to reinvent the offside rule. Barnsley's manager just laughed at them and told them that the Premiership was too one-dimensional and that they couldn't adapt to different styles of play. Also, it's a well known fact that one of the 12 founder teams of the football league should be given a bye to the final every year

Agree with devs, remember when the FA cup used to be an all day event which started at about 10 in the morning, with FA cup mastermind, and the gripping site of the teams getting on the bus at the hotel, and off the bus at the ground, and then FA cup question of sport or something like that.. great matches like the Coventry Spurs one or great results like Wimbledon beating Liverpool. I havnt bothered watching an FA cup final for 10 years. Its like the European Cup with its interminable group stages all designed to rake in cash and reduce the chance of upsets, and to allow wankers like Alex Ferguson to moan about how many games they play. The European cup was worth winning when it was a winner take all luck of the draw contest with worthy British teams disapearing to far flung corners of communist europe where tv pictures were fuzzy, the commentators sounded like their mikes were tin cans with string on them, and the teams had mad names like Torpedo Leipzig and Dynamo Kiev. Of course their players were all possibly robots or experimental supermen and the refs were always shifty spaniards who hated English teams, you only got one sub and plucky Brits often finished games with limbs missing even if you could see them through the mud... football has become a piss poor playstation facsimile of the game I remember and thats why a Cardiff/West Brom/Barnsley/ Pompey game would be a breath of fresh air.
