i do not think you can compare russell's player of the year from 5-6 years ago to collins getting it two years ago in the premiership.
All i am saying is dont write him off and get on his back just yet.

unfortunately higgy can only kick it high down the line EVERY time, collins might be the future with our new passing stlye!

he can not be "dreadful". We would have spent 3 million+ if it was so well know that he was dreadful. I am sure we did the research.
All the real flops we have had are all in the 1-2 million bracket expect maybe oli.

yes but with more games his passing will improve whereas higgy will only ever hit it long down the line regardless how many games he play.

Why can't he be dreadful? So far for us he has been dreadful, the bloke really is a poor defending going off what has been produced so far. Pulis dropped him because he lost faith in him and all managers have transfer flops at all prices. Some would regard Kitson as his biggest flop and we have spent 5 million so far on him.

My 2 main worries about him:
1.) He NEVER gets tight to his man to either tackle him or just press him. He stops them walking it into the box but if they want to cross it they can cross it right over his head as he's always too far away.
2.) He keeps passing it to people in blind alleys and then sprinting passed them up the pitch which basically leaves them in the shit with no out ball.

Was thinking during the game last night, I must start a thread asking Captian Fishpaset, how the Fuck Collins has won player of the year twice? or whether they did things different up there and the shitest player got the award?

Higgy left Sunderland because he couldnt get in the team. At the same time collins was playing?

i wouldnt say "far better" maybe in better form at the moment, but going forward i think collins is more the future that higgy.

I don't think that I could ever drink enough alcohol to ever, just for one teensy moment, think that Collins is anywhere near as good as Higgy.
Not saying Higgs is brilliant, but he's on a different planet to Collins. Diffferent planet.

HUSTER. Thats my point. I think he will prove some people wrong and he needs time, just as whitehead did. collins may turn out to be a decent cb but at left back it just isnt going to happen, he never marks up and is always out of position and he dwells on the ball too much[/u]Are these the qualities you want in the centre of your defence?

According to Sunderland fans he's a crap left back but an excellent centre back...which probably explains why he's always drifting into the middle and leaving his man wide-open. I'd rather see Dicko as back-up at LB, but wouldn't mind Collins getting the odd game at CB. TP doesn't mind his full backs getting tight to the middle. That's why he doesn't mind centre backs at full back. The theory is that we will deal with the crosses from out wide but don't really want people getting in around the back of us. I think he's not as bad as some people make out, some people on here seem to look for mistakes in the people that they don't particularly rate, but he is a bit of a ball watcher and needs to improve his concentration.
