I'm sure I'm not the only person who thinks that Boxing Day football is the best fixture of the year. I simply cannot wait for Saturday to come around. Friday (Christmas Day) is merely a day that gets in the way- Man City is what it's all about. Off the top of my head, we haven't had the best success on Boxing Day, but I wouldn't change it for anything- it's the perfect way to work off that hangover and full stomach. One of the more memorable recent games was the 3-3 draw at Barnsley. The nerves as Lawrence stepped up to complete his hat-trick six minutes into injury time were unbearable, but beat any subbuteo set or playstation game I could have wished for. I'd quite happily throw the bread sauce and turkey into the bin now for something similar on Saturday. I can imagine the scene now. Hundreds of Stokies dressed as Santa dancing in the snow as Tuncay's brace slays Mancini's millionaires. Bring on the Citeh. Let's have the best Christmas present possible! **By the way, our last Boxing Day win was against Bury in 2000**

Just wish I was going.
Being forced around to the relatives with this missus.
I’ve given it a lot of thought (a hell of a lot of thought) and I think I’d get away with manslaughter, or even a “not guilty” verdict, on grounds of provocation.

Boxing Day is the best day of Christmas for sure. Was Bury the last time we won on Boxing day, strange as I always thought we used to have a good record on boxing day, probaly did before 2000 then

As a rule we seldom deviate from being wank on boxing day, having said that though the 3-3 at barnsley was immense, and last season's performance against the shit was only a moment of refereeing bravery or a moment of wilkinson calm from being a well deserved point.
just hope it doesn't get called off because of ice around the ground.

My happiest boxing day from memory was Beeston's winner in front of the Boothen against Newcastle (late eighties, don't remember the exact year) - we scored twice in the last 10 minutes to win from being 1-0 down. Strangely the only match i've ever stood on Butler Street for (pointless bit of trivia for you).

What better than playing Xmas Day then the return fixture on Boxing Day

Some of the In Laws were on about this the other day, and saying how lucky we were in England to have football over the festive period, and wondered why the Germans didnt follow suit instead of SHUTTING down now until 17th Jan, after all, most grounds have under soil heating nowadays, at least the Germans want somat off us ha ha

I agree with Banksy in that we are seldom anything other than toss on Boxing Day but I still love the fixture and agree entirely with the sentiments expressed by Knowles.
scfc75: seem to recall that there was some 'strange' arrangements with the ticketing for that Newcastle match but I can't for the life of me remember why. I know that I ended up standing in the Booothen Paddock (when I always stood on the Boothen), Couldn't get on the Boothen that day but can't remember why. You're right though.....amazing ending to that match.

I've got it in my head that the game was all ticket for some reason but we managed to pay on the day but could only get into Butler St. That could be complete bollocks though.... Seeing the Boothen erupt at the death was a sight to behold

scfc: You're probably right mate, probably WAS all ticket and I left it too late for the Boothen. The brain's on the way out mate.

Last Boxing Day game I went to was Preston at home. The weather was grey, the game was up there with the worst I've ever seen and there was a foul bloke behind us drunkenly screaming abusive language for the entire game. Apart from that it was great.
