John Acres is very good I reckon. Especially when compared to some of the tosh that other BBC Local Radio stations get. He's also relatively balanced when it comes to views.
He's also my wife.

That explains why You think his views are balanced! Comrade Acresky is part of the Stoke City Pravda. Him and Comrade Spinksovitch head the branch.

Lets be totally honest - having a go at John Acres (who does a far better job than anyone else on Radio Stoke) is just any easy option for those itching to have a pop at a) Tony Pulis or b) the club in general.

Maybe so - but I like Pulis so hatred for him is certainly not why I started this thread. I don't even dislike Acres - I just thought his statement about not needing to sign any players if we had a good December set of results, was daft.

Gleghorn is far better than Acres. Radio Stoke in general is shite and I only to P&G when my Dad has it on in the car when he comes to pick me up from the ground.

Gleghorn is a legend, best thing on local radio by a mile, which i admit isn't tricky, but you get my sentiments.

I think Acres is right. He said "If we get a decent haul of points""
If we do then we will surely be all but safe given the quality of the teams we are playing before then.
in which case it makes more sense to place more importance on offloading in Jan abd planning acquisitions in the Summer.
Realistically our aim is safety and look to improve next year.
Despite Coates wealth I cant recall hearing anywhere that money would be splashed out endlessly

I was under the impression that Peter Coates said several months ago that having spent £50m so far, he was not particularly expecting to be spending a great deal more in January.
Other than replacing players moving out, I don't expect to see a lot of action in the transfer market, unless there is a real bargain to be had or we have what TP sees as a serious positional issue.

So when Beattie and Kitson leave, we won't sign anyone? A right winger is priority too for me. When Lenny isn't we're knackered. Central midfield is a concern too. A left back wouldn't go a miss either! ;D

Lakeside, I agree entirely that we should always be looking to improve our squad. I didn't hear Acres but perhaps I can understand where he's coming from. If we have a big enough haul of points going into the new year then perhaps we should refrain doing too much shopping in January when prices are inflated and there's limited talent available. On the other hand, if it looks like we're going to be in a relegation fight (and personally I don't think we will be) then of course there's more impetus for a spending money.
Having said that, it doesn't mean we should be looking regardless. If the right player appears at the right price, it doesn't matter what month it is.

I'm quite happy if we end up with fewer players at the end of January than the end of December. I'm quite happy if we look for bargins. But Acres didn't allow for any of that - his argument was that if we had a good December results wise we should not sign ANY players. And I think that is a daft attitude - we have no adequate cover on either wing and we are quite likely to lose one if not two two strikers.
