1 point at Villa, and 3 points on Boxing Day.

I reckon if TP played Lawrence, Tunch, Ricci and Ethers we could surprise them. Knowing TP though he will probably play three defensive midfielders.

does depend upon the side he picks. Now Villa are top-four, will we decide to go for damage limitation? ???
With a negative midfield, ie 3 defensive, then the best we can hope for is a scraped point.

I just can't see MoN allowing his team to repeat the errors of last season. A point on Boxing day is about all we can reasonably hope for.

I think we stand a chance more because of Villa and the fact they might get a nose bleed especially after two away wins (assuming they win tonight).

Where is the sense in picking a team that is defensively poor against a team where logic (and the oppositions superior ability) suggests we are going to have to spend a good deal of time defending?? Stop living in never never land.

Anyone who holds their hands up in horror at the thought of defensive midfielders ! I'm not horrified by defensive midfielders, but think the number of them in any given team should be restricted somewhat My point was simply that if we go with 3 defensive midfielders, we will be setting out for a point. I could go on about the fact that when we pick 3 defensive midfielders, it hasn't been proven to work anyway, and we shoe-horn one of them in by playing them out of position etc etc, but I can't be arsed ;D

May sound negative but cant see us picking up any points up the next two games against two teams that will stretch our defence/ midfield with there wide players

I hate to be pessimistic as I am so pro stoke you wouldnt believe but if I am being honest........
I can't see us picking up any points over the xmas period, I just think the teams we are playing are all going through real good patches. I realise the law of averages state that good patches have to come to an end, I just don't think they will against us.
Any point gained is an absolute bonus as far as I am concerned.

p.s. Please dont smite me cos its only my opinion ;D ;D ;D

Accepted prem4stoke!!!
However, how many times can that happen a season???
If there was a point to be gained it maybe at Man City as they seem to raise their game against the top four and have no consistency against the lower teams. I do think that this all depends on the team hughes picks though?!?!?
Stranger things have happened and lets hope that the boys give us a christmas to remember and we can drag this thread up and wonder what we were worried about lol lol
Blimey now I'm being optimistic lol lol ;D ;D ;D

Joe, you've obviously been listening to whingey O'Neill, tonight.
In his usual laugh-a-minute way, he was relieved that theyhad won (apparently didn't play well) as "the lads were so tired, after their gargantuan efforts, at the week-end". Poor things.
This time, I hope we start playing at kick-off, rather than after half-time, and make them even more tired. We could get something from this.
As for Brum, they've got to lose some time.

I'm pretty sure Brad Friedel has never saved a shot vs Stoke City, so we should win this one easy.

Is going to be real tough. I can't see it myself. They have pace and I think will be too strong for us. In good form and we're struggling to score. 2-0 but hope am wrong

It won't happen, but I would like to see us go for a 4-4-2 with a midfield of Ethers - Diao - Whelan - Lawrence. With Fuller up front and Tunc roaming between the midfield & attack depending how the game was going. (i.e. a 4-5-1 if defending & 4-4-2 if attacking)
