Shitehead wants twatting, He had an excellent game today. He has had a slow start to his Stoke career but he is getting better and better. Now lets all get behind him. Thought he was brilliant day, going forward even better than defending!!

He did have one of his better games but we have seen enough of him now to come to the conclusion that he offers very little in terms of passing. I am struggling to remember a single incisive pass he has made in any game. Our midfield today was again an embarrassment totally overun by Wigan. I understand the value that a defensive mdifield player brings to the side but to have 3 out of 4 in the side at home if continued could well be our nemesis come the end of the season

I hope he doesn't read some of the utter shit on here. I thought his last two performances have been decent.

Dean was average at best. He refuses to pass forward and isn't strong enough to win as many challenges as others. Whelan and Diao need to be in the middle with Lawrence and Etherington outwide. We need Diao for his height and strength to defend set pieces, and I think he's much better than Deano in the cage. Diao made some excellent challenges and looked decent on the ball for most of the game, but he seems to match every good tackle with a foul or a trip. I think he's a bit too keen to get the ball sometimes, and that most other players have an extra few yards of pace than him. Whelan is better in the air and in the tackle compared to Whitehead AND he can pass forward and play in the forwards and wingers. Spot on. Whitehead continues to look a Championship standard player I'm afraid. The only positive we can draw from 'Deano's' recent performances is that he isn't quite as anonymous as usual - that is the depth to which we have to go to draw a positive. The midfield was totally overran until Whelan came on and saved the game for us. The same Whelan that missed a chance just as easy if not easier than the two Whitehead was slaughtered for (by many not all) a couple of weeks back?

I can't remember that either and that was at the end I sit! I'm worried about my memory! ;D Probably because we had SO MANY. ;D Etherington swung a cracking cross into him and he was just behind the penalty spot and put it wide. Whether they can squeeze all of our chances in in 3 minutes on Match of the Day remains to be seen but i'm sure you'll see it at some time.

I haven't seen it since the match but I think that that Whelan chance didn't look particularly easy actually ... I guess we'll see on MOTM.

I remember Whelan missing a chance but like Paul says I didn't think it was easy. And I can't remember how it came about barring what You and Monkeycat (on another thread) have said. We did have loads of chances today, the finishing was woeful. Just seeing someone in a Stoke shirt doing an overhead kick made my year though!

Onto his right boot, wasn't stretching and and didn't need to change his stride. Didn't even hit the target. Not saying it was particularly "easy", i'm just comparing it to the Whitehead chances and i reckon they compare pretty well myself as they weren't easy either but he certainly got his criticism for it.

i didnt see what others saw today, that being; a convincing performance from Deano. I think that he misplaced passes and made a few questionable decisions, but by the same token, im more than prepared to give him time, because lets face it, presumably he wasn't made Sunderland captain by accident. We'll see eh?

Lots of players should have scored today and You have to be consistent! I thought Whitehead did well today.

i didn't think he was too bad today. would still rather start delap and whelan in the middle at home, maybe dean and diao away??? Delap's basic errors and poor play today would get shown up in the middle of the park, or wherever he plays. If he's our best CM, we're struggling. Diao's a liability, absolutely dog-slow, hence every tackle needs to be timed to perfection..at times today he was miles off the pace...and I've watched it back on TV, it tells me no different.

It gets the moment of contact! ;D It shows how slow the defence were to react to it when Salif is the quickest there!

It didn't no. Tuncay did well to get onto to Fullers shot for that one. It was a terrible effort.
Tremendous though that Figeroa goal.

He was probably further away and it went top cornerish. I felt sick when it went in though. We had been battering them and they did that.
