I'm amazed in 31 days we could not find any midfielders better than the current crop of garbage we have to endure? How on earth Whelan, Diao, Delap make it in a PL team is beyond me. I'm also amazed we couldn't get a forward any better than Mamma, surely someone who cn control and kick it properly would be an improvement. For the billionth time, Mama is not a forward. And Delap should be playing instead of Diao (or Whelan, as they are both awful) I know he's not a forward, he's not a footballer either but hey we still have to see the total embarrassment run around like Bambi on ice. I'm sorry how any professional footballer can't pass, can't shoot, cant control is beyond me, he's a theif as he is stealing a wage from Stoke along with Diao and Delap. Also you calling for Delap to start shows how desperate and poor our midfield is, another player who can't pass, cant shoot, cant tackle and cant control add to that he cant run either a huge liability. Only reason he's still playing is because he throws it far, it's embarrassing and we deserve our rep half the time. Our shining player is Whitehead in midfield how fucking desperate is that to hear? He's an average player who runs a lot. We talk about moving forward but what I saw yesterday and for majority of the season is far worse football than towards the end of last. Also add the the fact our off the pitch antics are so poor we've not quite realised what league we're in. Everybody anywhere can see how desperate we are for decent LB who can pass, a decent CM who can pass and a decent ST who can shoot. Yesterdays tactics and team selection was a farce Mamma should not be allowed near the Stadium nevermind the pitch. We should have started with the following and actually tried to pass and take it to Sunderland who were an even bugger bag of wank than us. Sorenson Wilkinson - Shawcross - Huth - Collins Lawrence - Whelan - Whitehead - Etherington Tuncay - Fuller Either that or put Tuncay right wing and Beattie up front with Fuller. Problem is we would maybe have to play some form of football and actually go out to win a game, wouldn't that be novel. March you can defend Pulis and his very dated, boring and damn right ugly tactics that has seen 1 league win in 9 games all you want. All you do is show me you have very little knowledge of football and will accept any shit thrown at you. We play the worst midfield in the league and possibly have the worst forward in the league! While is anti football pillock is in charge we will always be in the same boat and we wonder why we wont sign any top players? RVN, Rodders, Jenas, Bentley etc... must be happy as larry knowing they didnt sign for the shite that was on show yesterday. Pulis the destroyer of footballers and the bringer of life for the awful!

Dave,
Thanks for all your time and information you put into this thread, it certainly makes the transfer window more interesting! Any explanations about the deals that went wrong would make for good reading.
I look forward to hearing from you in the summer,
NWS

Cheers, Davey. It's been..er.. interesting again. You'd better get your skates on with your much-anticipated James and Rodders explanations before noon. Yeah pity Admin have decided to close the thread down ... I'm sure those explanantions might have been pretty interesting. Then again maybe (some : people might have got themselves all worked up again ... so maybe not such a bad thing if it is locked after all.

Chances that central midfield will create per game: 0. Chances that midfield with Delap in would create per game: 10-20. The ONLY thing Whelan and Whitehead have on Delap is age, neither of them have his footballing brain, stamina (well, Whitehead's pretty close on that one) or positioning.

Hope we see you on the summer (but for goodness sake not too early)
All the best

Come on then, Dave. Let's hear about all these players that we tried to sign and failed to do so. No point being vague now, just lay it on the table: who were all these players you referred to over the course of this thread? Answer me!!

Well why not? I suppose it would open him up to abuse and there's always the dodgy side of a new thread bringing attention to two very hush-hush issues, but if he wants to make them known there's no other way to do it. I suppose he could PM his most trusted about it, which sounds perfectly fair and reasonable.

No point being vague now, just lay it on the table: who were all these players you referred to over the course of this thread? Answer me!! Answers: - 1. We failed emphatically by aiming our sights too high. Ruud Van Nistelrooy from Madrid to Stoke-on-Trent? I’ll eat my own arse (“We’re more than 90% sure he’ll come” – FFS Dave. If you are part of the management then wake the fuck up and stop being so fucking gullible. If you are not part of the management then please forward the fucking message on) 2. As a club we are absolutely woeful at carrying out transfers. The window lasted 32 days and we had additional time (I.e. December) to carry out the initial ground work and yet we are left in the final hours trying to secure the signing of a friggin goalkeeper.

Just strikes me that it would be a good way for Dave to quiet his doubters and at least reassure us that the club didn't just sit around masturbating for a month.

Dave, thank you for your efforts in updating us. I think perhaps its not the information itself that people get flustrated with, but perhaps the delviery. You obviously want to try and please the fans, and we all put pressure on you to name names and percentages. Perhaps the percentages should be more realistic of the uncertain natire of these deals, so instead of 100% certain there will be a signing, 80% might help to give people less expectation of a sure thing that fails to materialise. Just my 2 penny worth.

I suppose he could PM his most trusted about it, which sounds perfectly fair and reasonable. Because Davef (Admin) would have absolute bloody kittens if Dave started a new thread to talk about the old thread ... how long would that one carry on for? would Dave become a permanent fixture of the board then? A lot of people manage to remain sane because they know at some point the NEWSIGNINGS thread will dissapear from the board ... Dave comes around a certain point and then leaves around another. For him to start a new Q&A thread that could last indefinitely, might very well send people over the edge. If Dave (as he suggested) wants to come on and explain what went wrong then prob best to leave THIS thread open for another 2 or 3 days or if not ... just let those sleeping dogs lie. Just my humble opinion mind.

You are joking right? Paul, i thought he said he was going to?
& Agree with Mystical anyway - why not?
I, for one, want to know about Jammo / how close we really were to RVN / where the mystery striker went / ditto midfielder(s) / wigan man and why the fook we didn't have a stab at Moses.
That's why actually.
& i think it should be for the board - not just teacher's pet PMs too.
Fair play, he's had the brass bollox to come on & face the music before, so why avoid it now?
Edit: just seen your post above - needn't last indefinitely.
But come to that, why not have one pinned?
I'm sure the club are seeking feedback outside the window too.
But certainly i / we want the dirt on the "what went down" with this one.

I think that's fair enough Paul. I'd still like to see him start a new thread because, more than anything else, I'm very curious about what he has to say. Ideally this thread would have a few more days so as Dave says that he's going to give us an update on what happened with certain players.

Just getting in one last post here before the great locking ceremony. Can't really express just how let-down I feel by the contrast between hope and actual achievement we've seen over the last month or so. We have wasted a fantastic opportunity to really take ourselves to another level in the second half of the season. Let's just hope we can stay up and get ourselves taken seriously in the summer.
Not a single outfield player. Can't believe it.

Thanks for the info Dave. It's been a strange old window for lots of clubs it seems - not just us, and I really think we're beginning to see the financial difficulties of some clubs beginning to bite. Thanks for carrying on despite the unnecessary abuse.
I'd still really like to know the details of the James saga.
