Wilko has more of a chance than Mears. does he though, wilko is locked in his "cage" not allowed to express himself, its as if wilko knows he would stand a good chance if he was allowed to express himself. wilko probably had a rush of blood to his head against pompey and thought "fuck you pulis, i'm going to show people what i can really do!" if wilko is capable of that on a regular basis then it shows what a wimp pulis really is by not letting him do it. what are the odds our messiah had words with him after the game about abandoning his shackles and going for it.

The point I'm trying to make is that neither of them have a chance I take on board what you're saying about Pulis though, I felt in his post match interview that he wasn't happy with Wilko as he felt it was his 'greatest regret' that Wilko didn't score. He had a huge opportunity to praise Wilko for his best performance in a Stoke shirt, but chose instead to go with the patronising 'good-kid' routine that we're all familiar with. It's difficult to set aside the fear that Tone just doesn't like Wilko, in the same way that he doesn't like Tuncay, or Whelan particularly, or Kitson, or didn't like Hoefkens, or Hoekstra ... etc.

would rather have Ray Mears. He could make a lovely hammock out of the goalposts and nets at half time.

Right back problem??
I thought Glen Johnson was doing a great job there. If not, bring in Andy "Cafu" Wilkinson.

Not a hope in hell of Mears playing for England imo just ask a Derby fan their opinion of Tyrone Mears and his defensive capability.

England have a problem with cover for Johnson for sure
Micah Richards (still only 21) has gone backwards - maybe if he moves in Jan & plays RB (Spurs been mooted I see) he could force his way in
Wes Brown showed in the Brazil friendley why he should never play for England again
Gary Neville has surely played his last England game
after that who? Mears? Wilko?

Plus since then he's got vaulable experience abroad by playing for Marseilles. Players can improve and I think Mears has.

Its all about opinions rob and to add i thought he was a poor defender at our place on the opening day of the season. Also every Derby fan i work with used to make the same comment "good going forward cant defend for toffee"

He's having a really good season this season.

Warnock is left sided - & a better bet than Bridge imho.
agree Mears isnt even champ standard defensively

Interestingly, no Premier League defender has supplied more assists in the Premier League this season than Mears.

Warnock is left sided - & a better bet than Bridge imho. agree Mears isnt even champ standard defensively Left-back is a pretty strong area for England now Ashley Cole is obviously the number 1, but then we're capably backed up with Stephen Warnock (who can also play CM), Leighton Baines, Bridge and even Jolean Lescott if the need arises. Long gone are the days when we had to rely on Nicky Shorey as England's back up leftback!! It's a shame our RB position isn't as strong

Not surprised at that rob because he's good going forward so maybe we need half Wilko half Mears then we would have a very good full back although after Wilko's run the other day who knows.

I've always thought Wilko's ability to get forward has been massively underrated on here.
As you say Mutts, there simply isn't an English right back who can both attack and defend well consistently. Johnson is the best we've got, and if anything happens to him it's hard to see who we pick from there.
